  • I do 50 in my sport boat all the time. Don't need the wind.

  • If they hit a Dolphin they could have sushi. It would slice through it like butter.

  • boring!!!!!!

  • @heybuddy A sailboat can go faster than the wind speed. Aerodynamics.

  • if it was going at 50 knots, the wind speed must have been ATLEAST 50 knots... WTF

  • This needs 'Ride of the Valkyries' in the background.

  • I thought Macquarie Innovation was the first to 50??

  • Those outriggers look sooooo fun

  • 1:05 - 1:11 "Holy shit a red light"

  • damm this video put my blood pressure skyhigh, way over normal! it happened I just checked my blood pressure, then sat down to watch videos in youtube and this is the first one. i guess i forgot i need air intake! scary video.

  • HONKIN WOW :):):):)

  • Boat? What boat? I see some guys flying a slice of toothpick and I am SO jealous - I'd love to be out there on the outrigger with you crazy guys but my butt would be frozen to the deck.

  • They ARE on a continuous beam reach but going so fast the apparent wind swings to the front until they are close hauled. Why so many negative comments on such an amazing feat?

  • holy smokes. that is damn fast. i would be standing at the back seing how far i can piss.

  • holy smokes. that is damn fast.

  • i want one:D

  • 50 Knots = 57.6 MPH

  • how fast is that in miles per hour?

  • @omsinos 1 knot = 1.15 mph or 1.852 km/hr

  • they should have a wakeboard riding behind^^

  • kinda lame since it all comes down to the wind

  • @oromisszane And we all know that the wind is going to end someday. ROFLMHO

  • @ElShadaiLives i mean that you can have a better boat and not as strong wind and lose the record because of it

  • why all the yelling.. jesus christ

  • Now that is smooth, fast sailing!! Sweet!!

  • looks like they were close-hauled? I wonder why they didn't go into a beam reach or run to get a higher speed

  • they scream and shout as if they were about to hit a brick wall head on....

  • of course! Leave it to the French to find the fastest way to run away by sea.

  • @BODYGETTA Of course! Leave it to Americans to find the easiest way to joke about 'the French' running away.

  • WoW. Another reason to show that a Fri Europe/usa can be on top once again. :-)

  • Incredible.

  • 3:07 we hear the helmsman, Fernand Jeannot Hyena IV release a jubilant cry of exultation at the news that L'hydroptère has broken yet another speed record... of course the rest of the pack had also just brought down a sizable antelope, and so Fernand could've just been hungry... either way these filthy feliformian frenchies sure can sail! 5 stars!

  • the days of dolphins riding bow waves are numbered

  • Trans-Atlantic !!!

  • funny all that yelling didn't create too much turbulence

  • I thought the French had the fastest sailboat...

  • this is a french boat.

  • what the hell they have some massive reef in!!!

they broke the record with a reef in place!

  • well since its hydrofoil I pressume they need to keep her level within certain tolerance range to get max lift, so they gain more speed by keeping her level and reefing, then having larger sail area, keeling and losing the lift.

  • not nearly as much as the pollution you produce living on land, driving a car, ect...

  • True, a good point, I built an electric bike to try solve that stinky problem - look up maco10810 - if you use a solar driven sterling motor you can charge the batteries and have a zero carbon footprint.

Imagine a car with a solar tracking dish on the roof charging your batteries while you are at work.

And from a design prospective that boat is fantastic, I am not knocking the design its great, well done to the designers for achieving such an efficient solution its really good.

  • cool Idea, but would a solar sterling engine produce more power for it's size and weight than a solar panel? I always wanted to make the ENTIRE surface of a car one big solar array instead of painted metal. It would look cool and would be a way of mounting solar panels without disrupting aerodynamics.

  • On board charging can be done they have a race every year and they only run on solar power but the vehicles are not practical for every day use.

At the moment the way to go is to have a solar panels all over the roof of your house charging an interchangeable battery pack for your car- also all caravan equipment runs on 12V DC so you could convert your house to run on 12V DC saving you your electricity bill and your fuel bill, which is a huge chunk of money per year.

  • If they hit a dolphin going 50 knots, you would know it, the boat would probably sink.

  • @thedarkocean

That's assuming dolphins swim around like manatees, duh.

  • nearly 50kts!! What are you on about, they reached 51.36kts with a max surge of 55kts

  • no I believe that was French for, "Jim, we can't push it any faster!!!"

  • It looks like they are yelling, "Get out of the way!! We can't turn!! Can you imagine trying to go for a nice pleasant sail with these crazies roaring around the bay? heh heh

  • It's more like a lowest flying record. :D

  • yeah it crashed badly and destroyed most of important parts which is taking them to build longer and money and time but sweet looking boat! i wanna to be on it anyways i remember there is other boat coming in 2010 , they claimed thier boat will do 65 knots or they will give one million bucks to lucky winner i cant wait to see it , they said it contains many nasa parts maybe rocket sailboat ?? i wonder?? maybe specail foil sails? lets wait and see i will post thier sites

  • @wowshark

some parts are made by airbus factory, not nasa

  • this is a video of it but this is not when it broke the record. it was unofficial and it crashed.

  • i wanna see it tack or jibe!!

  • lol whoooo it s gonna be messy! we would love to see them to tack or jibe that bird but that bird is damn fine ! i wish they invite me to ride that bird

  • Cocorico !

  • Avec des crinqués commes vous un peut très bien gardé notre pseudonyme de flying frenchman! Exclent vidéo! Wow!

  • DAM, she's a fast lady.

  • very impressive! might get it to go a bit faster with some kiwis on board:-)

  • The frontier...wherever it be...on the edge...nothing like it.

    Excellent video.

  • the seas were not that bad especially on a foil but yest hats off to them... they could keep up on the interstate

  • I'd hate to pitch-pole at that speed.

Just as I was thinking that, they showed the on board computers below decks.

I can imagine they keep things level, but still, a pitch-pole would be deadly at that speed.

Still, I wouldn't hesitate to go for a spin.

  • aye, it's happened! they've done it at 40 kts and more recently at their new record of 61kts.. his is insane man.. absolutely insane.

    ...i love it

  • 50knots in those waves...you gotta take your hat off too 'em....bloody frogs :)

  • I want 1

  • SLOW

  • hahahahahahahahahaahahhaa

    sure

  • Not the fastest. the Aussie one goes faster.

  • But that one doesn't cross the english channel in 34 minutes and 24 seconds averaging 33 knots across open sees carying a crew of 7 now does it? Both are definitely awe inspiring but this is jut in another league

  • But the claim is the fastest. The Aussie one goes faster.

  • "The boats are simply more efficient don't you think? "

Depens on what you wanna do..

If you want to spend heaps of money and to need a bunch of other people to go and if just want to sail lines...than yes..

    If y

  • wtf is up with that laugh?

  • Alex on a kiteboard has gone faster - 52 + knots. He owns the official speed record for fastest ever sailing. (and he spent much less money - he he)

  • and they are out to beat him today.

  • He also needed much more wind to get going, and a special channel built to do it in.

The boats are simply more efficient don't you think?

  • that record is being questioned now because technically the kiteboard is not a "sailing vessel"

  • holy shit im sellin my alberge and getten or maken one of those haha thats the shiite, 47 knots what! i wonder how these things hold up in large waves? dam talk about backseat drivers lol , im sure they have some valid input tho

  • Wow ! that was amazing. They were so fast but still the boat remains stable. Nice vid.

  • fantastique!

  • need some kiwis on board would go even faster:-)

  • swiss you mean?

  • yeah took kiwis to win the cup for the swiss eh

  • i would give my left nut to crew on this boat...oui..oui

  • How fast were they? In what wind speed?

  • In this video they officially reached 47 knots. I don't know in what kind of wind speed. But I know their own personal record is now 52.86 knots during a recent training session: first sailboat to ever pass the 50 knots barrier! Stay tuned.

  • @TeeJayMarkII 50 Knot wooop thats 50 mph right ? mabe more

  • @LOLHMMMZZZZ

nope, it's 50 NAUTICAL miles per hour

  • no, dump ass, he is the navigator... and he have to sit down there with the computers.

  • is that bloke at 0.45 havin a shit?

  • i dont know, but translated it means waterwing

  • How do you pronounce the name of this ship?

  • Lee dropped her.

  • "ère" is pronounced nearly like "air" in french.

"hydroptair", with a French accent :)

  • dont hit anything!

  • a windsurfer isnt a boat u fukckin idiot

  • Of course it's a boat. One currently holds the record for speed sailing.

  • Super boat... but the fastest sailboat in the planet todate is a Windsurfer

  • incroyable!

  • so sick

  • That is freakin awesome for a sail boat. I bet Peter Blake could have made it go fastest though.

  • assez chill sa!!

  • Excellent achievement in open sea. The record for 500m is now 49.09 knots (56.45mph) by a Windsurfer. When they strip the boat to race trim during this year, it could beat the 50 knot barrier.

  • I think the fastest soft water 100m average sailor is still a windsurfer - which just achieved 49kts... unless I'm wrong? This boat is no windsurfer however and I'm impressed they did it - without seat belts or helmets! See my Rave video for a lesser foiling craft - still my passion though.

    Can I get a ride? :)

  • 3:20 that laugh l00L!

  • sailing is the best experiance ever. I think its even better than skydiving and ect.

  • where are their helmets? they drive as it was a F1 CAR RACING! just amazing

  • its like a plane

  • They were doing 50 kts? no way

  • WOW!

    Who's the top speed?

    Amazing!

  • Ah!

    Sorry I' don't see.

    50 knots.

    To fast!

  • Rocket ship.

  • That boat is pure madness. Absolutely awesome in the true meaning.

  • the mics in headsets don't work in high wind.....as you can hear in the video, they pick up a lot of noise

  • Why don't they get wireless headsets/mics and stop screaming at each other.

  • not was fun???? have you ever sailed.. its the best thing.

  • well icesailing isn't sailing is it

  • Icesailing is similar since it uses sail but this is sailboat record. I don't know it this is still the record holder.

  • Oh my god....

  • formidable! quelle était la vitesse dans ce vidéo?

  • icesailing doesn't have the resistence that water, waves and current gives. Although icesailing is kewl...can't really compare the two.

  • Icesailing is not done with a boat, and were talking about the fastest sailing boat ;)

  • until you run out of..........ice.
