  • People who believe in god are delusional and should be in a hospital getting treatment!

  • I better not get one more fucking "psychology masters" ad, or I'll fuck up the bastard that posted it.

  • So the Rabbi's answer is aimed at people who have no friends or family to help them out and the Rev.'s answer is because it makes him feel better.. Riiight. Also the Rabbi looks like the grand neigus from star trek voyager haha (hope i spelled that right)

  • i love chris hitchens, but that old black guy was really cool :)

  • The main thing that an athiest has to beleive in is the fact that they are a good person because they choose to be. How can a theist genuinely understand, or empathise with life experience when they have just been doing what they are told. To develop the way you perceive things in a coherent manner, you cannot blindfold yourself! Beleive in yourself; you are your own, and your determination and will-power will allow you to accomplish anything.

  • @tpstrat14 Why do you wave the hate-speech flag, instead of coming with logical coherent response or argument? Such refractory attitudes are typical of religious people, just as they are psychologically classifiable. It's easier for you to feel as a victim of abuse and discrimination, rather than engage in a proper argument.

OAN, I checked many of Hitchens' comments and presentations, and could not find one single damn idea that is not based on reason, on common sense. Glad such people exist.

  • Gomes: "I'm not brave enough nor smart enough..."

Condemned by his own words. What does he believe? Does he believe that being a coward and being stupid are the way to go? That his God is for the cowardly and the stupid? Why would he (or He for that matter) want so may cowardly stupid people?

  • So Gomes just believes for convenience, lack of will power or intelligence, and because it makes it an easy life. What a waste!

  • I cannot hear this video !~

  • christopher is such a legen all you need to do on these vids is to fast forward it to his speech and ignore the other pompus ass's

  • I think many people here misinterpreted what the pastor said. He admitting his sole reliance on the power that sustains him. This, to me, is a great characteristic. Whether you call that power "God" or "energy" or whatever, no one can deny there is a power that allows us to think, move, breath, digest our food. Where would we be if that power were taken away? I think the pastor humbly expressed his nothingness in relation to that power. I despise all dogma, but I honor that power.

  • Hitchens seems hostile. I like his arguments but he comes across as agitated, and that doesn't sell me on him.

  • One of the panelists embarrased the other two. Guess which one.

  • CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS IS JUST THE FUCKING MAN

  • VOLUME!!

  • The fact that the two people wouldn't be able to live in a world without God because 1. they wouldn't have the resilience to deal with life and 2. they simply don't like the thought of no God is just so characteristic of religion.

  • Someone pls hlp me undrstnd, If we are morally capable of making right decisions with out external influences why do we have laws. Let's be realistic here, we are bent toward doing wrong. Most ppl break the laws of the land one way or another, for whatever reason. We speed when we should not, risk assess the opprtunity to break a red light etc. CH arguement in this instance is not very strong, u can't say on the one hand we have capacity to choose rt from wrng but yet say we need laws to ctrl

  • @junior2404 You seem to be forgetting that people make the laws, and have done so time and time again in isolated cases all over the world since the beginning of human history.

Humans are not perfect, which is why we make wrong decisions and bad moral choices. However by living among one another and cooperating we tend to be more powerful, hence laws, language, all complex technology, all great art, etc. We achieve what no one person can.

However this cooperation also leads to BIG mistakes...

  • "I'm neither brave nor smart enough to live in a world without god" Oh wow

  • Comment removed

  • You've put your finger on it. These weighty discussions are reduced in the minds of many in what is an essentilly entertainement based medium to a kind of competition. I am religious and yet doubt and question and I value the contribution that both Peter Gomes and Christopher Hitchens have made to my life.. Hitchens posseses a kind merciless intellectual search light and for me what Gomes demonstrates is heart, scope and profundity.

  • Interesting.

  • Rabbi just shows how good people are driven to evil by religion. It's perfectly demonstrated here, and the rabbi even makes it part of his argument! We are absolutley fine, in fact better off, without religion or god. an ateist world would be one of reality, discovery, wonder, love, appreciation, togetherness. At least a bit more so than it is now.

  • Heaven or Hell will be the difference!

  • @vrghiks omg.

  • These men are religiously lost!

Reminds me of Nicodemus in John chapter three!

  • "There has been umm a lot of bad stuff done" ... Really? Understatment much?

  • they couldnt find anyone better to debate with hitchens? that was like taking candy from a baby....just horrible :-)

  • Hey what 1 fundamentalist watched this video?

  • Oh snap! The good rev just "hitch" slapped chris!

  • I am atheist, and I can confidently say that Hitchens is a fool of all fools. He advances the truth of the atheist movement not a centimeter forward. His understanding of religion is nothing. He insults religion without end, refusing to gain understanding about WHY people believe in religion, always chucking it up to pure foolishness. Hitchens is to atheism what OJ Simpson is to black NFL players.

  • @tpstrat14 So you say hitchens is a fool. He's simply saying that life without religion would be the same as it is with religion. Any of the moral ideas of the bible were around a long time before jesus and maybe even the jews. The bible was a book written mostly pseudonymously by people. What the church found to be apocrypha were chosen because of sexism and what didn't correlate with the teachings of jesus.

  • @mindhasyou spell his name right you fool. utter disrespect to someone whos mind has 10x the amount of intellect you'll ever have.

  • @Sylosis333 The world would be a horrible place without Fundamental Western Christianity. Yes Hitchins, we would infact be murdering, plundering, and raping in the streets if it hadn't been for Westen philosophies to arise. If any of you Atheistic bigots know anything other than what the paid for fools say on National Geographic, answer this: Who were the Philosopher Kings that ofwhome first laid the foundation to monotheistic morality. And for the reasoning behind justice, virtue, and happines?

  • @mindhasyou What a ridiculous statement. the analects of confucius spoke specifically about justice virtue happines and the golden rule before the new testament. the literacy rate was also higher in asian civilizations. So drop the non sequitur biblicial literalism

  • @mindhasyou How did we exist as humans for 250000yrs before christianity without the biblical preachings? Because we can. We did not kill and rape and pillage constantly, otherwise we would not have survived. Atheists have just as high moral values, in fact, in the main they are higher as they are based on rationality and compassion rather than on the urge to follow a leader. Religion can make good people do bad things, whereas Atheism cannot.

  • @sids500 - Really? The rape and murder statistics for most Western nations is still pretty bad. Most of our laws came out of Judeo-Christian values, not atheistic thought.

  • @bkey88 May not be great, agreed. It could always be better. But to say the laws come from Judeo-Christian values is nonsense. They are set by democratically elected parliaments of secular nations. Common sense, and reasonable. 10 commandments - the first 4 are from a jealous god and cannot possibly be the 4 most important edicts by which to live! The next is a good, and is the only positive one. Next 4 are common sense, and 10 is same as 7. we are a bit more sophisticated in law these days.

  • @sids500 - , Read, The Genesis of Justice: Ten Stories of Biblical Injustice That Led to the Ten Commandments and Modern Law. All of Leviticus, for example, and much of Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy are law codes....It is in the most compelling tales of the Bible that Dershowitz looks for and finds not only the roots of Western jurisprudence but the very spark that ignites the passion for justice that is the burning heart of the Bible.

  • @bkey88 Do you really think modern western governments take a blind bit of notice of those? They pass laws the majority of their people ask for. No reference to old texts, or the origins of law. Computer fraud laws, rape mitigation circumstances, laws that are relevant now, not then. There is no correlation except for common sense laws like murder, stealing. There was always a need for justice, natural or otherwise. Society breaks down without it, and like other species, we would have died out.

  • @mindhasyou Nonsense. How did we survive before christ? 10 commandmanents are clearly written by men, for men/women to obey. Just look at them! The first 4 are irrelevant, and 10 repeats 8. Only one is positive, and the rest are common sense. The world has changed in 2000yrs, and these can now be seen to be out of date. Would god insist on out of date morals? He created the earth apparently. Would he let us change and make his laws obsolete? As Sylosis says, another religious non sequitur.

  • @tpstrat14 i would have to agree. This is the first time I've heard him and that is the first impression I got of him. His insults are childish and do not advance his cause. Not impressed.

  • @goodguysdoll I strongly believe that for a belief to grow, there must be level headed people within the belief system that live righteously and kindly (or at least give off that image...) Now having said this, it would not be good for Hitchens to hide his bitterness toward religion just so he can further his own cause. There is a certain amount of honesty in his act, I'll give him that. He isn't shy to show his vitriol towards religion. But hatred towards religion doesn't disprove it.

  • @tpstrat14 Religion does not need to be disproved. It needs to be proved.

  • @Kaalec My point was that Hitchens uses hatred to try to make a logical point. It doesn't work. Look elsewhere for your atheistic feel-good moments. This guy is a liar.

  • @tpstrat14 And my point is, who cares about your opinion? Are you a scholar, biblical or philosophical? Do you have any educational credentials that give your opinion even a modicum of gravitas? Or are you just another blind believer who will accept any little piece of BS as long as the word "god" is attached to it?

  • @Kaalec Good talk. Go spread your hate elsewhere.

  • @tpstrat14 MT hate? You called Hitchens a liar and accused him of being a hate-monger. I had the temerity to question your credentials and/or your capacity for real thought. And you accuse me of hate. Sounds like you defame everyone who dares to disagree with you, which proves my point of your being a shallow thinker. Have a nice day.

  • @Kaalec All you have done is insult. It's sad. Go troll elsewhere.

  • @Kaalec You are indeed spreading hate and ignorance.

  • @goodguysdoll So what have you contributed to the social discourse on religion or anything else for that matter. What makes the fact that you're not impressed relevant to anyone but you. So you're not impressed. So effing what?

  • My god. It is incredibly disheartening to hear the honest words of a human being, admit that he hasn't the courage, nor the mind to think and navigate the directions of his existence without the idea of a god.

  • Just because you cant conceive of a world without god, or you dont like the idea of a world without god doesnt mean there is a god

  • Rational dosn't have to be self intrested. it dosn't define rationality. so the Rev is completly wrong.

  • i wonder why there are no muslims there...

  • moral conscience cannot be the sole reason to prohibit or condemn something, becuase it differs with different people. some people could claim to have an intuition that means they feel obliged to kill. once you aren't accountable before the ultimate judge, there would be no rational reason to condemn what is wrong- let alone identify what is wrong in the first place

  • thats BS

how would we have the same moral dilemnas without belief in a GOD????

once theres no GOD there's no sense of accountability, aetheists see humans like animals, so its the survival of the fittest, y wud i care about about killing any1 as long as i survive. y does human moral concience matter??

  • Religion was created by the fantasies of man to poison the weak-minded who are miserable, lonely and depressed.

  • If I had to live like the bible tells me to, I would have to chop my dick off and chain myself in a closet for ever.

  • "i don't want to have to think that i'm on my own." there it is folks, in a nut shell. "i'm smart enough to know it's bullshit, but don't have enough faith in myself to face the reality that death is the end of existence for me and there's no super daddy in the sky helping me."

  • Religion = halitosis

    Hitchens = fresh air

  • Believers shouldn't even bother speaking at all. They just prove Hitchen's points.

  • Nice rhetoric, Gomes. Really touching. Um, did anyone tell you this was a debate?

  • Hitchens put in his place again.

  • When Greece no longer accepted the notion of Mt Olympus and its gods, did they institute a society of anarchy and chaos? Or, as Mr Hitchens suggests, did life simply go on?

(and then simply replace one superstition with another)

  • Surely one should have more respect for someone who gathers strength from within rather than someone who feels they have to pray to some fictional being.

  • Wow. I actually feel bad for Peter. He seems sincere enough, and he honestly admits that he is only a "believer" because he would be lonely and sad without his idea of god. That's an unfortunate sentiment, but I do appreciate his honesty. A lot of Christians are too arrogant in their beliefs to admit this.

  • That black guy was a complete idiot, his just one of the main flaws in religion 'I can't possibly IMAGINE a world without god, because I have low self-estheem and i'm lonely.

  • @BelfastAtheist HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good one! That's essentially what they always like to say. It cracks me up that someone finally called them on it! Awesome!

  • So Peter is saying that he only believes in a "god" because he can't think on his own? or he believes in one because he just likes the companhy...he doesnt want to be alone???? weird

  • The Rabbi says that the purpose of religion is to blow sunshine up your skirt. If you need that sunshine, go to someone you can really trust - your family and true friends.

  • religion... the opiate of the masses...

    all are really the same

all think they are the best

all try to recruit you as a child to best brainwash you

  • @bryanfunk Religion is the placebo of the masses rather than anything real. And as Hitch so eloquently put it, rather unnecessary. And yes, it is rather frustrating that children are indoctrinated (brainwashed) at a very young age. Tell somebody at age 18 for the 1st time about Noah's ark and see how much credibility you'll have with them after that!

  • @jda379 truthfully, now that i have done my 'homework' and enlightened myself, i have come to the conclusion that one may form a religion from almost any book, book series, and surprisingly, even textbooks.

as for a leader to base said religion on, any author, or any figure from history, famous or otherwise, can be the figurehead for said religious cult/assembly/stupidity

ignorance is bliss, and the world is blissfully enjoying itself

  • Black dude doesn't want to take responsibility for his own life. Pathetic.

  • he's weak minded, just like all the other religious ppl

  • thats normal for them...the jew wants to rule the world because he views himself as his god an that it was given to him, where as the black man won't take responsibility for anything...lot of noticeable things in todays society...

  • Uh...i didn't mean that ALL black men don't take responsibility for their lives. I meant that this particular black man doesn't.

I don't find it particularly useful to stereotype an entire race of people, especially considering the fact that race is a man-made illusion.. like sin.

  • lol i know you didn't but its quite obvious the majority of them don't...just look for yourself.

made made illusion? if thats so why are there so many laws in place to make every one "equal" like affirmative action... if we were then there wouldn't be a need for any of these laws. theres a thing such as race. if there wasn't there wouldn't be different culture either which also defines a race of people. as does the race define the culture. your taking on a marxist's view point.

  • @VesusSheist evolution destroys the race illusion

  • there can still be found a truth in what he is saying ,!! that sometimes we dont realize our ptential, and require a reason to go harder..if the dilusion of god fills that void ,,then so be it !!! but it dont prove that a god was there, just that you always had it in you !!!

  • As disgustingly ignorant as that black reverend is, at least he's 100% honest with himself and others.

  • God? Mirror? Roads? Strength? Resilience? Challenge? Direction? What's this old man going on about?

  • See the full Forum on The Forum Channel.

  • but at least we're not hypocritical. Equal opportunities ignorance makes all the difference bub.

  • People love to use long words on their computers don't they? The amount of people who think they understand a persons psychology by just reading a few comments- Priceless!

All safe and comfy at home, letting out the stress of real life on postings on internet sites. Forcing your own opinions on to others but nobodies listening. So instead lets get personal and say fuck and die- Classy.

I don't quite understand how people can get so angry towards a God they don't believe in?!

    But hey- who cares?

  • "The amount of people who think they understand a persons psychology by just reading a few comments- Priceless! "

"All safe and comfy at home, letting out the stress of real life on postings on internet sites"

Not intending to make an enemy, but look at those two statements. A little hypocritical perhaps?

"I don't quite understand how people can get so angry towards a God they don't believe in?!"

Well I'm just angry at the wanton stupdity and suffering resulting from religion.

  • Also Katyousuck, to point out that I am not the center of your universe does speak volumes of your insecurities. You obviously feel inferior to me to suggest that in the first place. I NEVER have that thought about others on here. I guess I love myself. "STFU and go somewhere and die" All your anger suggests major inner turmoil. If you doubt the existence of a god, don't get mad at others who have the balls to state it because you don't!

  • will ever know! If you really want to school me then answer my question. How can a black person believe in a god? The bible never admonishes slavery! Ever. Can you read? Over 2500 children a day die in Africa!!! There is no god no more than there is Thor, Zeus, or any other childish myth. School me you can try, but you will fail miserably! You are the one that asserts there is an invisible sky daddy that loves you. Your daddy didn't love you enough! And I'm the dumbass? LMAO!

  • LOL, wow, Katadolt! You Glean all of that from just my login name! It's obvious that you will never be able to asociate yourself with a name like Einstein so I can tell you are in pain! I comment on a vid and you attack me. Hmmmm, sounds like insecurity to me. I sense you have doubts about the existence of a god. Don't fight it, just use reason and you will see the truth. It's clear you need to lose the teat! I'm not the delusioned one! Also, I have forgooten more about religion than you..

  • How can any Black American believe in a god? Ludicrous! Shackled to the bottom of a wooden ship lying in their own feces only to later become slaves! Grow the fuck up you dolts! There is NO god! If their is then where was that fucktard when you needed him! The bible never once denounces slavery! Unicorns are mentioned 9 times in the KJ version of that silly book. People baffle me with their stupidity!

  • It's obvious that you don't understand anything about religion. What you seem to have overlooked is that your very comments are rooted in the common belief in GOD due to your heritage, education, and subjective reasoning. You could have never developed the opinion that GOD does not exist without at one point accepting the reality of the unknown(God may exist). God, as you now know it, does not exist. You are not the center of my Universe, however.. So shut the fuck up and go somewhere and die.

  • @NotTooObvious I want Canadians too, this is bullshit!

  • @katadantesux I think that is the very reason many people now question or outright disbelieve the existence of god. We've read the buy bull, and read books from buy bull scholars who know more than we do, who question its validity for various reasons. We've believed at one time and then came to our senses and realized noone has the truth market cornered over anyone else. The god of most religions is a petty, sadistic, capricious, inept creator. Sincerely, nonpretentious, open homo in NC

  • @richwfd2002 My point is that (non)pretentious people like you want to shit all over people's beliefs for the same reason that your average Christian promotes anti-homosexuality. It's not because you understand. It's because you don't understand. People that attempt to nullify religion should keep their mouths shut about it and just choose not to believe. You're effectively making the statement that if I don't agree with you, then it's blasphemy... Sounds obviously, inherently, Christian to me.

  • @katadantesux I agree with you that there is a certain amount of hypocrisy among unbelievers, believers and myself. What I DO understand is that emotional attachment to a belief does not make it true or untrue, for that matter. I DO understand that attachment because I've been there. My problems with it is the divisness and people using it to infringe on other's rights because of it.

  • Oh.. and only a pretentious closet homosexual with shit for brains, who's trying to look smart, would put Einstein's name in their login.. You're an uneducated ass that probably should leave before you get completely schooled here. Just go back to your corner where you can hang your head and think of your next action plan for gathering more little tidbits of knowledge that you will, in turn, post elsewhere in some forum filled with dumbasses that are just like you. Ween yourself from the teat.

  • what about that rabbit up there?

  • Sounds to me again like "religion is for weak minded people who need a crutch to make it thru each day" They are delusioned! How silly!

  • Those two other guys are idiots. It doesn't matter what one likes or what one wants when it comes to the existence of God or deities. What matters is evidence. Too many religious people in this world keep basing their religious convictions on their own personal likes or wants or desires. You selfish assholes are fucking up this world! Fuck you! And yes, I may be sounding like an asshole but respect is something that should be earned. Respect your God belief? No! Because it is a ridiculous myth!

  • if man did not exist it would be necessary for god to have invented him. just a little turn about to illustrate that god is a loving, but jealous, god who wishes for us to worship him. read it for yourself, it's in the manual

  • Comment removed

  • or perhaps - if God did not exist it would be socially advantageous for (some clever) man to have invented him? If God was jealous and keen for man to worship him - don't you think he'd just show himself?...or is that beyond the purview of his powers?

  • To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted. - JC speaking to his disciples on why He taught in parables. God is mysterious for a reason. He wants your whole heart. You're invited, read it for yourself...or, be a cynic until you reach your grave.

  • I have read the King James Bible - it's a fascinating collection of earlier mythologies woven into an almost completely decipherable (if often horrific) narrative. I probably can't sway you away from your beliefs, but it is important for me not to cloud my perception by ascribing to any particular philosophy. Belief in God would prevent me from inspecting certain aspects of my world in detail, such as the way life came to be. This is called skepticism, not cynicism, and life is beautiful to me.

  • There are creative ideas to market cheese products & cheesy products. The U.S. Constitution lists the rights of citizens in the Bill of Rights. People born in the United States are citizens of the United States, not civilians of the United States. Conquered citizens are always referred to as civilians, by their conquerors, as they've been stripped of their citizenship.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I have watched a video that presented a very good point for this video. It is called What is Spiritual Practice? POWERFUL and THOUGHT-PROVOKING by Tsemtulku.

  • Hitchens leaves us all gob-smacked

  • extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof

  • "I'd like to think that God can't conceive of a world without me."

    Now THAT is solipsism!!!!!

  • And a disgusting display of wishful thinking... ugh

  • What a dumbass. He just publicly admited that god is made in our image and not the other way around, as they like to advocate.

  • So the reverend basically says that he only believes in God at the end, because he is afraid of the consequences that he might have to face if their weren't a God... death, having to actually take responsibility for his actions, etc.

    Interesting...

  • Yea, poor guy.

  • @nitrousoxide52 And they clapped for him how pathetic.

  • @nitrousoxide52 Yes, but one could argue that his humanity, his weakness, is what perfects him and humbles him in the eyes of God. That is if he existed which he doesn't, but at least that's poetic which makes for a nice rhetorical answer.

  • plz read tis cuz it actually works!!!!!

    1. push your hands around your throat

    2. squeeze

    3. take away one more chain comment spamming idiot

  • I liked the last response the best

  • It would take Hitchens merely seconds to debunk that last part. Pascal's wager is not a legitimate argument for the belief in God. Though, for believers watching, that last segment might be somewhat touching as a sentiment, it does not constitute sound logic. I would like to see this in its entirety, though it appears at the moment there are only segments available.

  • the wager is through and through the weakest argument in the believers debate book. i hate it because it's an eternal chain of slavery.

the ultimate threat to your freedom really.

  • hitchens owned 'em

  • this another point, he says he likes to think god couldn't concieve of a world with out him. Lets look at this for a second, fundies, tend to be uneducated weaklings that can't seem to get through a day with out begging for guidence for every little crisis, does god really want these total losers filling up heaven and giving him constant grief, WHAT enjoyment can that possibily give a god. he'd want rational thinking people that he just might be able to have some type of conversation with.

  • Reverend Lovejoy cant stand Flanders so i guess you got a point

  • Zionist? Are you seriously saying you agree with 99% of what he says, and then go ahead and call him a ZIONIST. He's an arrogant fuck alright, but i like that about him. there are far too many people that don't say what they really mean, if people did we could so easly sort the good people from the dirty scum bags of the world.

  • Yes segregation! That's the answer isn't it.

Good people from bad people. Let's say bad people are hunted down and killed. All right. Now you got the good people from the north and the ones from the south, guess what? Yep another war.

OK now you've got the blacks and the whites, all the whites die, *IMPORTANT PART* Now you have black people that like oranges and black people that like apples. Kill the apple-eaters. Yes that's our trend history backs me up. Try cheering for the other team.

  • man u and man city fans need to take a lesson =P

  • Of all the things you could call Christopher Hitchens Zionist would have to be the last one - Zionism implies that you are for the creation of a independent Jewish state in the Holy Land to which Hitchens has said is stupid, that Jews have no more right to that land then anybody else.

  • It is so strange that the Reverend states exactly why a belief in God is unfounded- he only thinks it's there because he wants it to be- and yet he's supposedly arguing from the theist perspective.

  • The only difference God seems to make is to inspire lunacy. The deeper the faith of a culture the worse it does across the social indicators. There is no brave, moral or just action you can name that was performed for Gos, or with God in mind, that has not been performed by a non-believer.

Of course your own delusions understand you,... you generated them. My imaginary friends all know me quite well too. The difference is that I can admit that they're imaginary.

  • i dont mean to be hurtful if you don't but don't you family to fulfilll thoes needs in you?

  • get over yourself.

  • That guy has some really big ears!!!!

  • It is wh he can hear the god

  • Thank you you're absolutely right, things are not true because I say they are things are true because they're true - existence is not here for some intellectual debate - its here because of God
