  • Effffffing Genius. I can"t see. I'm blind with tears. HELLO HIT THE BALL. AAAAHHHH,HA-HA-HA-HA. Iforgot how funny J.M. was. Jackie For Prez!

  • Save Pontiac!

    Bring Back Oldsmobile!!!

I hope Fritz Henderson and Susan Docherty leave GM and apply for a job At MICKEY D'S!!!!

  • Watts is volts!

  • @57haight a volt is a plug in elecectric car with a 75 HP gasoline engine which also charge the batter if you plan to take it on a long trip, because there isn't a place to plug in your car so you use the gas engine to charge up your battery so you can travel far and also used when you run the air condition in the summer heat in Arizona so you don't sweat hot.

  • Common sense.

  • ...however in saying that the future of cars will be made by the chinese i reckon

  • @nzutubeuser would flying cars be made in China, ans would Mr. Fusion be maid in china?

  • Holden is the company that made these 'pontiacs' in austrlia and new zealand (next to australia for those who dont know) we drive holden commodores which is what the pontiac basically is, excellent cars, 40,000k's from same set of tyres and hard driving

  • mad max!

GTOs are cool; followed one on my Sabre today, and the sound is proper, mate...

  • Bub bye Pontiac... that's what you get for building the GTO in Australia. You also should have built an electric Solstice instead of The Volt. Put the battery in the Sky people at Saturn. Chrysler is building The Circuit

  • The "GTO" was a Monaro. The Australian company that designed and built it, is called Holden. All Pontiac did was buy these cars and slap their name on it.

  • GM put its bet on the SUV and lost

bye bye GM sink Like A Rock

  • They are in Toilet and time to give them the Big swerly and Flush them. No more Bailout money for gm

  • GM screwed the American consumers. Gm took the electric car sold the rights to the battery that ran the car to Texaco. As far as I am concerned, Let GM ROT. After they screwed us, Oil prices sky-rocketed. Screw GM, LET GM ROT!

  • Instead of using over-heated rhetoric, why don't you simply point out that if no one wants their stuff, then they should go out of business. And if people want their stuff, then we should get out of the way and let them sell it.

  • GM is the #1 consumer for over 6000 small companies which will disappear after GM, 200 employees per each small company on average. There are over 6500 GM dealers in the US alone. Bob Carter, the vice president of Toyota sales said, just the mention of GM bankruptcy from their auditors has put most of our suppliers credit lines in jeopardy because we all use the same suppliers. If our suppliers can't get funding to invest in product development we are all going down.Global catastrophe ITS over

  • We don't need GM and UAW who wants free flow of tax payers money. Tax payers money is for all not for few.

  • In 1924, Alfred P. Sloan, CEO of General Motors invented planned obsolescence for the sole reason of increasing stockholder profits. This meant that consumers bought cars, they broke down easily and were replaced when GM sold you another newer car with parts made specifically to break in your hands and make you think it was your fault.

    That's planned obsolescence.

GM cares about putting their hands in your wallet as often as they can and now they want a bail out? Screw GM like they screwed US.

  • I fully agree that we should not bail out any company. But it is really overboard to claim that GM builds cars specifically to break down. My family has owned GM cars (other makes too), and always keeps them for a decade or more with only reasonable repair and maintenance. A car could be built to last 50 years, I’m sure, but nobody would want to pay what such durability and sturdiness would require.. Free enterprise, not screwing GM, is the message.

  • He gets so worked up! But it's true the banks and the automotive industry didn't want any government intervention and wanted to be deregulated. So, they got what they wanted and they tanked because of the morons running the companies. Now they are crying for money and are not willing to be accountable for that money either. Let them all go down the toilet and let the well run companies fill their shoes.

  • I disagree with Jackie. "There is no one more selfish and disgusting than the American car companies."

Sure there is, the banks and investment companies. I'd rather support the American Auto industry than the banking industry.

  • Selfish ? Who sponsors most sports events , car races and who gave millions in contributions after 9/11 . Who helped build local hospitals ? The Japanees or Germans ? I don't think so .

  • Jackie is absolutely right. When one company goes under, there's always another to take its place with people that believe they can make a better product. The free enterprise system is the only way to go. Keep on speaking out Jackie!

  • I would love to hear Mr. Mason's take on "planned obsolescence" and the role that production concept has played in the American auto industry these past many years, but I can see he's not running short on great topics to rip into these days.

  • The problem with telling people to go live in Japan if they don't like American products is firstly the US has been at the centre of advocating globalisation over the past half century. They advocated opening other markets so they could sell their products. Problem is that globalisation has bit the US on its own fat ass and it's now foreigners buying up America. How ironic.

To Jackie, maybe instead of being a complete hypocrite, you should tell Americans to manufacture something worth buying.

  • yep! The old boys club is ringing the bells again. The taxpayer is the schmuck!!

  • hi anyone want to chat

    looking for friends IW

  • if you dont like american products go live in japan

  • Brilliant, as usual, words of wisdom!

  • =come on he is also a comedian=

    sorry

  • there are others who speak the truth but not many. yes, some of what he said is tongue in cheeck... come on is also a comedian.

    i agree with him 110%

  • What the hell was he talking about with the baseball bat business? Years ago there were no bat manufacturers, so they hit the ball by calling each other names?? And baseball announcers made a fortune by telling the players when to hit the ball??? But now they've been wiped out because there's no use for them???!!!

This will probably get some people angry at me, but I honestly can't figure what anyone sees in Jackie Mason. He's the most unfunny comic I've ever seen. Sorry.

  • Why the heck did they bail out the banks and financial institutions and yet won't spend a dime on an auto-industry that millions of US american jobs rely on.

So it was OK bailing out the financial markets, we all know who controls them right, but it's wrong for the auto industry.

Ron Paul is right on his November 20 statement:

"Over and above this are those who understand that political power is controlled by those who control the money supply"

  • Do the math. They say 15 million would be a good year for U.S. car market. $30 billion divided by 15 million cars equals $2000 per car. Why not provide purchase incentives to the entire industry? This would put the industry as a whole on track, if they can't make money in a strong market then so be it.

  • Funny as hell and he's right.... I love jackie mason.

  • Bankruptcy among large corporations doesn't mean they go out of business. 300,000 people won't lose their jobs, but most of them will be forced to give up their untenable wages and benefits in order for the company to compete with other auto makers from foreign countries. You can't demand 30 bucks an hour as an auto worker, when your competition is only making 20, without destroying the company you work for. Bailing out these companies will only allow them to continue down their failed path.

  • Good Point.

Big Business is always complaining about government intervention re employment policy, minimum wage or investment. They hate Union activity. Yet when the business is about to collapse then "bail out" money is a government duty.

I think the comparisson to the Tabacco industry is a good one.

    Cheers.

  • The big 3 should file for chapter 11 bankruptcy and get out from under all those bad 1970's contracts they signed with the UAW.

Then the big 3 needs to start to making quality, stylish cars like they used to back in the 1960's.

Remember the 1964 Pontiac Tempest, the 1965 Chevy Mailbu, the 1968 Road Runner, the 1957 Ford T-Bird, the 1961 Lincoln, the 1969 AMC Rebel, the 1970 F-150? All great products, some of which are still on the road.

  • My thoughts precisely Jackie. Why are you the only one speaking the truth?

  • You have some very simple views of the world Jackie. You sound like Archie Bunker. That's why America is the strongest county in the world, that's why communism failed, that's why GM is failing. Jeeeeeez Jackie I wish the world was so black and white.

  • With all due respect, a lot of things can be explained by simple causes. The fact we have seasons, storms and hurricanes is all due to the fact the earth is tilted 23deg. on its axis. The problem with the car companies isn't all that difficult either. It's a combination of mismanagement, not anticipating the market, and unions demanding too much.

  • American industry(cars or financial services) should pay the price...If you don't make it,don't come crying to Washington for help....

  • Jackie is right again!....on the bailout...on the election...this whole 2008 Presidential election was tainted from the start. That 's what leaves a bitter taste.....

  • This first joke in this bit occurs at 6:48.

  • Comment removed

  • @sideslide23 toyota is rusty recalled junk

  • the only value they will have now is for hoovervilles for the homeless.since the 1980s they never gave up and continue to make huge gas guzzling cars while the japanese were grabbing market share becuase of their smaller more efficient vehicles. its been over 25 years. how long is it going to take them to get an ounce of brains.

in business you either adapt or you go out!

  • oversized box of crap, impossible to park, handles terribly that gets about 2 miles a gallon. this during a time when the world was facing the highest gas prices in history?? at the same time successful or even logical companies like mercedes benz and toyota are manufacturing cars like smart and hybrid small vehicles which have done incredibly well. i mean who is running GM? are they total morons? what good are their hummers and oversized SUV's going to do in a crisis like this?

  • ah rav yankiff. ah zuy git guzuckt.

GM at one time used to manufacture great cars. durable, inside and out. they had the strongest bodies, best engines and easy to service. but that was untill the early 80s

now the company is a shmatta. they also have corrupt terrible leadership. what the hell were they thinking when they started manufacturing a vehicle called a "hummer" it looks like something you go to war with but made out of packing peanuts.

  • Ameracan car should die because the lack of qualities, they depressiate to repidely, and they found on road dead, and its hard to repair. and american car breaks more often than foreign cars

  • I own a 96' Mercury Villager that runs better than most of my friends far newer cars due to the quality of the Nissan engine...I hear excuses about Japan subsidizing their auto makers, but most of them are sold at retail, and US cars are cheaper to buy but the Japanese cars outsell them..it is plain quality..even those that fought against them bought one anyway because they got tired of trying to get US makers to fix quality issues, US makers are doing better but have left a bad taste....

  • The problem with the auto industry is the same arrogance wall street had..GM's head said not long ago that the Toyota Prius was not a money maker and other critizisms, they make great cars and do not care about profit because they know that after people buy their cars they will be customers for life due to the quality...American auto makers deny deny deny when it comes to a quality issue, has nothing to do with the Japanese gov subsidizing them, they get retail for thier product and we rebate..

  • They all make vehicles with built in obsolescence. That sticks a shaft into each and every customer, poor or rich.

  • Jackie. You're wrong. I own GM cars and trucks and they're very good. And a Ford Mustang. My Chrysler Minivan, eh, it's ok. All three of them suffer from poor marketing and in some case aweful styling. Those overpaid auto workers are paying your social security checks. Perception is reality and unfortunately the Japanese cars have the perception of being far more superior than they really are. In fact most jap cars are boring. If you want your stocks to rise you want this bail out.

  • Greed is finally coming on their head. They should be ashame of hurting lives of many people. Selfish! Individual!

  • The Japanese subsidize their car companies. How can our car companies compete with Japanese car companies if we don't do the same? I don't like it either, but if the car companies go under in this economic climate it could be the last straw. Then we would depend on foreign countries for all our manufacturing, except we will have no jobs, no middle class and no money to buy anything. The whole world goes down the toliet. This is a very complicated problem, let's hope Obama can figure it out.

  • I wonder if Mr Mason feels the same way about the government aiding Israel?

  • They need to close them all down. They have spoiled greedy employees who will go on strike if they are not making $75 an hour. They complain bitch and talk shit to the CEOs.Unions keep on fighting them and making the emps strike + they arent doing a good job.

  • Right on Jackie and the suppliers to the big three agree with you. They have been forced to systematically move all components of their companies off shore by the big three.

  • I Herd that at one time Chrysler would make after everyone was paid, $6000.00 Profit on a Grand Cherokee, And how much more on parts when one takes a shit.

  • GM, you sabotaged the EV-1 electric car by torpedoing demand & selling to Big Oil control of the advanced battery that should have debuted with it. You conspired with Big Oil and Bush to quash the CA clean-air mandate for a quota of electric cars per auto maker. You ripped the EV-1's from their lessees and GROUND them into oblivion. Now you ask, "What will WE do?" and "Collapse is imminent if we do nothing."? You sealed your fate when you conspired against us and KILLED the EV-1 electric car!

  • GM built the big gas hogs that you guys wanted! It was not GM fault the wall street banksters trashed the economy. Let's put the blame where it belongs on the greedy wall street robbers. ALL of us are gonna get stuck paying for the WS bail out with out any chance of getting our money back. The LOAN THAT CHRYSLER GOT YEARS AGO FROM UNCLE SAMMY WAS PAID BACK IN FULL WITH INTEREST. The auto companies are look for a loan not a bail out! Stick that in ur tail pipe...

  • Jackie a lot of younger people are not that familar with the cars produced in the 70's and early 80's. The Pinto and Vega were capable of exploding on impact. The big 3 are still paying for mistakes 20 and 30 years ago.

  • Your name might be Kenny but your have the mind of a girl.

  • Jackie, you're only partly right. GM engineering has already "rounded the curve". Their larger models use less gas than comparable models from... the Japanese! There are several things at fault here. The UAW is the parasite and the Japs took advantage of pricing. They did well at first, but they suck now. I would never trust a Toyota Tundra for hauling. Serious frame issues and more. Chevy's Silverado is superior with better gas mileage. Fixups are fewer than before and less costly!

  • There is one thing to add to what you are saying. The mistakes that GM made 20 and 30 years ago their still having to pay for. They lost an entire generation of consumers by mistreating them. When I was growing up every affluent Sr. citizen had a Cadillac now they drive Lexus. The Cadillac is proably just as good a car if not better.

  • get that jew in office of the president NOW

those sons o bitches in Washington have shit for brains.

Jackie you are a brilliant actor, man of the people, broker of honesty, and an American Patriot

God bless you From Montreal Canada

  • Thanks Jackie you have my support and affection from Canada.

when you showed the milk thing I remembered the lovely cream on top of each bottle of pure milk

today its watered down and ugly

so many things we let slide in North America

so many stupid things were done.

    thanks for the memories

  • Right you are. But Obama was elected in part from support from unions, so he cannot let them become unemployed without trying. I think he will intervene. The govt. never gives out free money though. There will be strings attached. Perhaps union concessions or an agreement to built efficient cars. To make up for this, Pres. Obama will tax wealthy people like the govt taxes gas and cigarettes, since they are not his supporters anyway, and are bad for democrat's health.

  • If Federal Regulations and Unions didn't ruin GM, it would have maintained its status. The other examples were destroyed by competition, not communist philosophies.

  • Thanks again, Jackie! That is the most comprehensible explanation I have heard yet! These creepy people need to leave DC and go to a more suitable country like North Korea or Venesuela, Cuba,Russia, France, Germany. There are lots more. They can pick from tropical beach weather or cold skiing weather. France has some really good food and the arts are plentiful. Then they could leave us and our Constitution alone! ;)

  • jackie about 60% of the workers make less than 67,000 bucks.. so at 87,000 gm worker is still doing very good..

  • Dear Jackie,

this auto worker had his pay cut ..

His gross pay was cut $16,000 one year, sliding to $87,000

87,000 is not rich but a lot more than most people earn.

  • What kind of pay cuts would ALL of the employees from GM have to take to make a profit?

  • GM makes worthless cars. Their cars don't last and they are always breaking down.

The government has no right to bail out GM or Ford or Chryser.

Japanese cars last 10 years and more without them falling apart.

  • Jackie, I heard something very disturbing. I heard from a Jew living in Israel that they are initializing the mandatory receipt of the RDIF chip for all their citizens. That is the mark of the beast. Have you heard from anyone?

  • Also, the UAW is a huge voter base for the dems.

  • G.M. has been in trougle for years. over 5 yrs ago we had to w2atch a video at the dealership about how GM was taking steps to build a better car. Well it didn't work. Japaneese companies opened factories down south and they employ many people. They make a better product and have a better buisnes plan. Why? Because in Japan if you screw up you get fired. Here in this country you can report losses year after year and the CEO gets a huge bonus.

  • Too many idiots posting their opinions on the internet.

  • Keeping these companies alive is just a form of marxism. A more deceptive method or redistributing wealth. They take our money to keep workers in jobs same as they employ government staff. The only difference between this and socialism is somebody else gets to keep the profits and we get nothing. But then can we afford to let the jobs fall by the wayside? Where are these people going to go. We have so much automated manufacturing now that we don't have places for these people.

  • Yeah GM is weird Jackie!

  • Yeah, I started a business, and the help for a loan from the Gov. wasn't there, I could not depend on one bit of help. They went through the banks, and the banks want collateral and treat you like a pauper. I did it on my own. Gov won't bail me out, instead, when I made money, they come snooping through my books, called the IRS to try to get their share. Well, they didn't find crap. All of this bull is a big lie. gov. doesn't help small business, they steal.

  • This bailout business is a lie. It's a terrorist tactic to lead us to one world government. Jackie, you are so right, I go to Korea, China, etc., you don't see one american car. NONE. Can you blame them?

  • Right on jackie. We should have had the electric car years ago, hadn't it been for GM and Ford ect. who continously blocked the idea simply because they would not like to invest!! I wish they won't bail them. I wish AIG would not have been bailed either. let the market decide; Yes it would be difficult for 4-6 years. Yes, I know. But coming out of this recetion industry and society would be 10 times better served.

  • See the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car." We could have had an affordable electric car by now but the US Auto Industry made sure it didn't happen. I would like to see what is left of the Auto Industry work on developing the electric cars they tried to suppress.

  • It's the most simple thing ever, and yet some people still DO NOT GET IT; in order for progress to occur, businesses who produce inferior or obsolete products must fail. The "horse-and-buggy" analogy was a perfect example of this this. It's as if the government wants the power to ensure that nobody ever has to consider the prospect of losing their job.

Do you REALLY want cars which run on alternative sources of energy? Then stop helping those who refuse to get with the program!

  • Your so funny lol...

  • jackie, jackie, jackie,

I agree with you totally & yet I have to wonder what's up with your dissing obama? you think mccain wouldn't be throwing money at these guys? notice the 700b bush's cronies couldn't wait to hand out?

And what's with the greatest free market verbiage? If we had one it was so long ago Jefferson must have been president. Our economy is an oligopoly; too few sellers. The gov't doesn't interfere with these guys. It works for them as often as it can.

  • I agree with MGR,,,JACKIE IS 110% CORRECT

  • I'm screaming watching this video and practically pounding my keyboard! JACKIE IS 110% CORRECT AND SPOT ON! I drive a Japanese car now and will NEVER buy a car made by GM until they stop playing games and produce a car better engineered and designed than a Japanese car. GM deserves what is coming to them and the fact that 2,000,000 people are going to be affected is the fault of GM and the UAW (more so the UAW) and NOT the buyers like myself who prefer a Japanese car.

  • Who is blaming you for your choice of automobiles? Many people want American cars regardless and many people even prize classic GM models from more than 40 years ago that are still running. Some things are not indended to suffer from the "wealth-nostaligia" cult that would sell out America to avoid an oil change.

  • well said rabbi.. if you make crap cars then people will NOT buy them!

we british found THAT one out years ago.. just ask where british layland is now!

your also right about Packard! they DID make fantastic cars!

  • racist bigot

  • right on target Jackie

  • i ll rate this video 5 stars 10 times if i could ...

  • couldnt agree more

  • Jackie you are right on the money, why should the Government bailout a company that can't run it's self?If the Government is to bailout any one they need to start at the bottom, help the American person on the bottom of the chain.

  • Jackie, take a look at the politicians. They run for public office and as soon as they run out of campaign finances, they immediately ask their constituents to bail them out. Why? Why do they deserve to be bailed out? Now Jackie, I saw that video of you of you from the 60's, you looked like one of them cool meerrer dudes from the Meer, except you weren't wearing a hat on a tilt. Panyimayish? Jackie, when will the Lord bail me out of my troubles? Huh?

  • Jackie,I've been unemployed all my life so let me ask you something: How come no one's bailing me out? Millions of Americans are unemployed right now, how come the government's not bailing them out? Huh, Jackie? Now back in my day, if I remember correctly, jews wore tiny skullcaps, so they needed bobbypins to hold 'em up. But nowadays, the skullcaps are getting bigger and bigger, so there's no need for bobbypins any longer! That's why your sister-in-law is unemployed,Jackie. Panyimayish?

  • I like the idea Phil Hendrie just announced. Take all the money we will spend on NASA next year and get those engineers to design, not a new space shuttle, but the best car in the world! We pay them tax revenue already. Let's get something more useful out of it. Then they can go to Detroit and supervise construction. (BTW, maven, saving the auto unions is politically motivated and merely justified with short-sighted economics; long-run, a bailout is a mal-investment of capital, I think.)

  • Then Joey, tell me, after NASA designs cars for Detroit and goes there to supervise, who are they going to supervise if there's no auto industry and no union protections for auto workers? These are skilled people in a trade that is in demand in America. Longer warranties would carry the company through change, while NASA works on cars.

  • #2 - Joey: Going just w/teachers unions(since his reference 2 unions is easier 2 locate), many, many people despise the education system & want improvements. Public schools succeed or fail 4 several reasons. Unionized teachers is NOT one of them. It's an old arg that shifts responsibility & produces failing students. A prez should not have authority over curriculum anymore than over a company's bus. policy, unless illegal. A free pass on ed means low income students as grads or a failed Amer.

  • maven, you say unionized teachers are not a reason why public schools fail. No, it is a huge reason; the unions obstruct the firing of incompetent teachers. Bad teachers must be shuffled to urban schools where parents don't complain as much. This is well known and called the "turkey trot" to those in the system. Do some research before you pontificate.

  • I'm not 'pontificating'. Unless a teacher breaks the law OR goes outside the curriculum, they aren't 'bad' teachers if they fail a student. Unions protect teachers from parents who complain because their kid is above working for grades. Kids have brought guns to schools. They care about violence. They don't get why they are there. That is a parent's role. I don't disagree there are probs.. Destroying unions, however, is not the way through them, if education in America is to survive.

  • Our American industry lifted us out of the great depression and won WWII to boot. Everytime since, industry and manufacturing have lifted us out of recessions. What happens if the car companies go down? What industry does this country have left? Foreign companies are all over this nation and they give American workers jobs. But the larger percentages of every dollar you spend on them goes over seas to aid their countries. Long story short I'm not sure we can ignore the big3.

  • Nobody bailed out American Motors, Hupmobile, Packard, Hudson, Willeys, Morris, Studebaker, or Tucker, or a dozen others, so why should we bail out General Motors, Ford, or Chrysler now?

  • Honestly, this rant goes more to the heart of the matter, and crystallizes the argument against a bailout better than any article I've read recently on the topic.

But so many hundreds of thousands of people suddenly losing their jobs, and untold thousands of people in peripheral and related businesses losing their jobs as a result of a GM bankruptcy may cost the economy more than the bailout will.

BTW, I love my Chevy Aveo- a terrific GM small car.

    Built in South Korea.

  • The government screening process to find recipients for the "rescue bailout" money is pretty simple.

Everyone listed in the S&P 500.

  • 100% agree with Jackie!

    Great video!!!

  • Good point as far as it goes! But you overlooked the key fact: the auto unions donated to the Democrats and voted Democrat. So they want some payback on their investment. That's the elephant in the room -- political favors, special interests, lobbying. You argue economics, but this is politics really.

  • Then that would make no sense since BHO intends 2 CRUSH unions in the US once in office. That would indicate, since many auto parts are imported & used on domestic cars, his loyalties, 4 some reason are w/Japan over US autoworkers. Unions exist 2 protect workers rights, not the corporate special interests, which if u r correct, have nothing to do w/economics. I would think then corporations would end up getting taxed or fined under US law, anyway. Manufactured parts over-outsourced started it.

  • Maven, you make no sense. Keeping the unions working has everything to do with economics. It keeps employment up, which increases aggregate demand, which boosts GDP. You say Obama intends to "crush" unions, but you offer no support for your claim.

  • Joey, excuse me but you had said it was politics not economics and now you are saying it's economics, which is political way of saying "hello", so "hello". As far as BHO, in his words he says his intentions in the debates. He did not use the word "crush", rather a long circular line of thinking to say he disagrees with, in particular, teachers unions 4 America, to the roar of crowds of believers. Several media outlets have since reported his words on the coal industry, which is also unionized.

  • we will be losing out genral motor plant here in massena new york jackie in a few weeks. the decision to close the plant has been going on here for over a year -- long before this bayout plan. whose winning? only the corporate heads and the workers get a retirement buyout -- or have to move to work at another plant!

  • Everybody wants something for nothing. I worked and people did well in life on my body oil.....speaking of body oil are you ready for your body rub Jackie?

  • Jackie is a classy guy

  • Jackie, I usually agree with you but, BHO was given a chance and he chose to leak confidential WH information. Reports say Russia doesn't trust him and frankly, I don't think he is off to a good start except he speaks so well, no one can speak against him and that is not American. That is 100% communism. America has never given that ideology an opportunity to flourish within its borders. This just came out. Not your fault. Stop helping them, pls!

  • They are trying to sell you on no-interest finance, which puts the US at a disadvantage 2 countries like China. watch?v=VmRbum9x0nU

They r selling ideology, not help 4 America, & blaming religion 2 make another land grab at Israel.

This happened already, prior 2 the Spanish Inquinsitions & revolts that led 2 WW1. Then Hitler came 2 power. They r hitting with everything at 1 time, backed by money US business is foolish 2 blieve it will see & nukes. BHO already leaked WH info 2 the media!

  • Unions, like the medieval guilds, ossify everything they touch. The scribe guilds in Italy during the 1200s banned the use of Arabic numbers, since using 1, 2, 3, 4 instead of I, II, III, IV, in accounting paperwork put people out of work. The same thing happened with the printing press with respect to the Paris guilds during the 1450s.

Capitalism isn't just about getting what you want. It is also about avoiding what you don't want -- the horse and buggy, the milk man, etc. Awesome vid, Jackie.

  • Interesting that you mention the printing press from that era. It's misuse was falsey blamed on Jews while the true ethnic Turks & Serbs had no say while the then Arab controlled region expelled both Jews and Muslims to cover it up. The Serbs and Croatians are still at war, against genocide.

  • Jackie is right. But one thing is certain. 1 in 10 people work for a Company that has something to do with the Automobile Companies. What will happen is the Saudi's will come in and buy these companies for pennies on the dollar. The Share Holders will be left holding the bag. We cannot bailout everyone. The U.S. doesn't have any money. We just keep printing it.

Let them fail and keep the Foreigners out from buying them, and let someone come up with a better idea. Enough!

  • didn't we do this once before when we bailed out chrysler? they were making pieces of crap before they were bailed out, and they continued to make pieces of crap after they were bailed out.

we made the mistake of buying a used plymouth horizon (against the recommendations of every consumer magazine) because we though it was a good deal at the time. we spent more in repairs on that piece of crap then what we paid for it.

this was the first car i ever owned where the door handles broke off!

  • we had forgotten that plymouth stood for "please leave your money out under the hood"!

  • Let 'em go under. Gm makes some of the most unreliable cars in the world with horrible gas mileage too. Cheaply made vehicles. They've had plenty of chances to redeem themselves over the years but failed to do so. Just look at the ev1 electric car they made in the 90's. Great car! But what did they do? Crushed most of them and bought hummer. I really really hope they go under and never come back.

  • That fool's not my president Jackie. I won't take any of the credit for putting that disaster into office. I can't honor someone that I can't respect. He bought/stole the office.

  • he is so right about this stuff. i love this guy

  • Let the big three go into bankruptcy and re organize, getting rid of all the things that brought them to this point and establishing a solid foundation on which to go forward. Someone will then be able to buy of finance the companies once they trim the fat and trim their bloated payroll, bureaucracy and out of control runaway employee benefit plans.

  • The part about the bat manufacturers made me laugh out loud.

On a serious note, when car manufacturing becomes nothing but a subsidized jobs program, we can look forward to the Ford Trebant. Just fill the tank to double it in value, folks.

  • reminds me of the movie gung ho

  • My dad was working for Studebaker when it folded. My dad put 26 years there. Thank God my dad went to Kaizer(SPELL).

  • The carmakers need to be bailed out for one reason:

The union workers there have to be paid back for their votes [with our tax money]

  • yep and Sir it will not stop there!

  • Excellent, Jackie! Ford, GM, and Chrysler all spent decades producing inferior automobiles and now that it's coming back to hurt them, they want a handout to save their hides? I say absolutely NO WAY!

  • it's sentiment. the domino effect would be enormous if GM fails. when lehman brothers was let go and left to the "free enterprise system" as you put it, that's what started the downward spiral that we're still in. plus obama is a visionary. he's thinking beyond the overt looks of it of wanting to bail GM out. he seems to want to attach strings and have a say in the company's product lines.. greener more fuel efficient cars. who wouldn't want to neutralize and neuter saudi arabia and OPEC?

  • what about the domino effect of bailing out more companies? where is the incentive to not fail for large companies? I dont want to see company after company get more tax money. if the americans decided not to buy their crap cars then they shouldnt be forced to give them billions to save them.

  • obviously strings have to be attached to the bailout not precluding requiring a certain % going into R&D aiming for more fuel efficient technologies

  • It doesnt work that way. The Private sector is where most Research and Development is done. Private entreponours contribute MOST to our current expansion of technology. Not Government. Giving the Government money is like throwing half of it in the trash. They are a bloated bueracrocy and they cant handle the responsibility.

  • commandox the internet is a government/military innovation. the private sector did not land us on the moon. government is not always your enemy it turns out. all who were cut-throat capitalists are now looking for relief from the government

  • The computer as we know it was an invention of the private sector. Telephones, Light bulbs, Electricity, and car engines were all inventions of the private sector. In fact even the apollo space craft were designed partially in the private sector.

  • Obama isnt a visionary. He's a fool. You cannot socialise a free market and maintain the free market. How in the name of Hell am I supposed to get my small business off the ground (which im trying, and its not easy in this climate) when Obama wants to tax, and control the system. Government has NO RIGHT to be involved. If corporations are to fail, they should fail because they SUCK, not because the government interferes. Which is precisely what happened here. The government meddled for 30 years.

  • if your business is making more than 200k, 250K, your "small" business is already off the ground. otherwise not sure why the tax part is of concern to you. and obviously the government in this case is not forcing the bailout on GM et al

  • That isnt the point. What right does Obama have to tell me what I can do with my money? Besides which, that doesnt match up with his voting record. He has voted to raise taxes on incomes as low as 42,000 dollars. On top of which when you raise taxes on the businesses you're only DRIVING them out of this country, driving prices up, and killing jobs. Government spending has to stop, and bailouts need to stop. We need spending cuts.

Something doesnt need to be forced for it to be bad.

  • what right does obama have to tell you what you can do with your money? try he was elected? though irrelevant, but elected in a landslide. to your other point, evidence is that tax cuts do not in anyway relate to jobs and unemployment numbers. theoritically you're right it sounds plausible. that is how this and other flawed supply-side economics crap was being pushed

  • There's nothing flawed about it. If you raise taxes on corporations, or tax, or add tarifs to trade, the prices go up. If you put a burden on a corporation with taxes, you're assured ONE OF THREE THINGS. Higher prices, lay offs, or jobs moved over seas where it is cheaper to produce. Its not a theory it is a fact, the market is already dramatically reacting to Obama winning, and we suffered the lowest post election drop. What he plans to do with 401ks and bail outs will disable this country.

  • it's been 7 and a half years of your prescribed policies... on steroids. they dont work. contrast with the 90's and look at the tax rates back then. btw, there are no facts or absolutes in economics. it's all theories, it;s an art, a work in progress. no two economists agree on anything2

  • Let us know when you - from Canada - allow for competitive auto insurance and, no comment on your 'steroid' theory of US policy. Sorry.

  • dsgspm, tell us if Obama includes those who make a once in a lifetime 100k, 150k, 200K, 250k, 300k, net profit through selling house and home..

  • The car companies had a product-oriented strategy and not a market-oriented strategy. They think that their product is so good that their product will sell no matter what. I do not support that General Motors bailout. I agree to help the employees not the companies.

  • Jackie I would agree with you for almost any other company, but with GM failing you'll see the destruction of America's 10th largest city.

  • No you wouldnt. Things would be bad, but the competition would move in and take GM's place. Its SAD whats happening to GM, and I do feel for those people, but if we keep bailing these companies out, guess whaT? None of US will have MONEY to buy the products in the first place. The entire country will fall apart. I'd rather possibly lose one city, than the whole country... and we are assured national collapse if we keep the bail outs going.

  • DEEEEEEEETROIT!!!

  • Great blog!

  • Why is the governement bailing out all these crooks?

  • The real reason, that nobody wants to admit, is it gives Governments control over things. They want to take control of 401k's and other parts of the free market for the public good. We're on a fast track to an entirely controlled government society.

  • Oct. 22, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Argentinean government had seized all private pension and retirement accounts to help alleviate the country's financial crisis and ballooning deficit.. with money hungry U.S. politicians and bankers looking for all possible sources of "bailout" financing, there are actual conversations in Washington to do the same thing to us..

  • Democrats in the House have been conducting hearings on proposals to confiscate workers personal retirement accounts including 401(k)s and IRAs and convert them to accounts managed by the Social Security Administration..

  • Wonderful!

  • Good video Jackie,I actually agree with you on this one.If they want to make money they should scrap gas powered vehicles and come up with a car that doesn't need gas. This is opportunity for someone to get rich!

  • "they should scrap gas powered vehicles and come up with a car that doesn't need gas"

tubesteakbooky they can't just scrap the internal combustion engine without a viable alternative.. a transition to something better is conceivable someday but meanwhile oil makes the wheel go around..

  • You dont seem to realise it takes millions, if not billions to R and D that kind of thing. Something that entrepanours (people with money, which Obama wants to tax... Nice.) are working on. Try and find a video of the Telsa Car (might be Tesla..). It's the closest thing to giving the world a battery run car that is actually capable of replacing gas vehicles. The problem is that it costs money to replace old cars with new cars. People dont have money right now. Everyone is in a bind.

  • Haha. Great.
