No, it is on permanent static display just like originally planned after a short flight period (and unfortunate nose-over and repairs.) The video here is from a DVD of flight videos made while Black 6 was flying along with another airworthy Me109. The second Me109 is still operational today along with 4 others worldwide.
@FiveCentsPlease Thats ok its better that way, because it could have been worst. So many were lost on just take offs and landings. During the war. BTW are there any airworthy FW190s left??
Look for the video of the Fw190 from the Russian forest. It has just completed a full restoration to airworthy, but is still in flight testing. It is the first WWII original to fly. (Will send info to you later because I'm traveling.) A second WWII original will complete restoration soon. A German company also produced 21 Fw190 replicas that are for sale or flying. They aren't 100% original but they do look nice.
AAAAHHHHHH HOW I LOVE THE SOUND OF A FULLY RESTORED, FUNCTIONAL, BEAUTIFUL Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine on such a beautiful warbird. I SOLUTE TO THE 109 AND THE PILOTS WHO FLEW HER AND MOSTLY TO Willy Messerschmitt.
BTW it had taken 20 years of dedication to get Schwarz 6 back to this condition and Sir John Allison fucked it in 1 flight!! Afterwards he had the bollox to say "I was the last RAF pilot to bring down a Messerschmitt" What a complete arsehole!
Sir John Allison RAF - Air Chief Marshall no less - should never have been allowed near this aircraft he wrecked it through lack of preparedness and panic!
@codimasters Being a Nazi had nothing to do with the development of that airframe or engine! In that time you either designed what you were told to, be shot (and your entire family) or try to run and hope that you and all your loved ones make it out with you.
Not all Germans during that period (military and civilian alike) were true Nazis. They may have said so in public so not to be shot. But in private they were disgusted with what their country and its leaders had become!
its a g-2 trop, it was caputured in north africa in 1942/3. in crash landed in 1997 but was rebuilt, but for whatever reason (something to do with the MOD?) they decided not to fly it anymore. whic is sad.

they do not fly it anymore because planes from the father land are now rare as when I served they were out in big numbers ahhhhhhhhhh brings back memorys to see a plane from the fatherland fly again long live the furher !
As I understand it, it was originally planned for Black 6 to fly for a limited time before retirement. Unfortunately, the crash happened on the final flight.
109 fuselage had originally 450 flying hours on it and practically no safety margins. The engine has 200 hours of total time and it had to be serviced completely after 100 hours. The BD engine is below all safety standards nowadays and was back during the day.
I'm glad the the plane is grounded in a museum so future people can see it. I don't know how much of the plane is still in original condition and how much is rebuild. The Tikkakoski G-6 is in relatively original condition.
I'm pretty sure it's a 605 without the big supercharger like an AS engine has. It was all restored again but the M.O.D. thought it best not to fly it again. I'm pretty sure that's the way it went.
One engine, one plane, one legend! Listen how the engine and the propeller are singing... Marvelous!
I'm not sure about the engine, installed on that exactly plane above, but I'm sure about the plane - Me-109G-2/Trop, and it is not F version. Take a look on the two air intakes on every side just behind the propeller hub, in the blue strip. They were not present on versions before Me-109G.

I see no blisters behind the main guns indicating that this could be a "F" series which had the DB601E, but im not 100% sure, it could be modified
ogie76 5 years ago
You are correct. The a/c is an F, and after googling Black 6, the engine is the 601e that is installed!
kev123a 5 years ago
The earlier versions of the 109G, such as the G-2, lacked blisters and looked very much like the F.
RLtW88 5 years ago
Yah i assumed it was a G-6
ogie76 5 years ago
Oops nvm, i just read the description but when i see pictures of a G they have the bulges on the engine cowling.
