  • i have only just broken into the tig side of welding and even i know that walking the cup is more of an art.

There would be no way to make a freehand cap as nice as walking it.

    Nice weld buddy ,Xcellent.

Thats the standard im looking at doing and know that ill get there sooner or later ;)

  • more later im sure

  • nice to see somebody working when i am @ home ;)

  • pure talent

  • i bet you that guy got his money right away

  • damn hes got good rhythm. lets see if from behind a mask!

  • whoa..that guy is good!!

  • *****

  • ya but you can weld .005 i can and i got the cert to prove it ASME........ps i also walk the cup and you are very GOOD......

  • WALK THAT CUP!

  • I dont agree with boiler boy but hey you can freehand all you want man. i garuntee u aint freehandin shit when its a 36" pipe and ur runnin a 180 hotpass. walkin the cup is a hell of a lot faster good lookin cap man

  • That is the biggest load of bull I ever heard I know for a 100% fact that walking the torch is faster and more repetitive than free hand .Hay thats only my view on this

Like I said before I have seen a lot of welders and free hand never comes out as good as walking.

  • Real welders do it freehand and can make the cap like it has been done by walking the cup. Walking the cup is for amatures. Try mirror welding in restricted position, that is an art not welding pipe in a fab shop with easy access.

  • I have been welding pipe for 17years I can weld upside down back to front any way you want whats the point in makeing life hard for your self if you can roll it and I have never seen a cap with tig freehand that looks as good as mine !!!!!

  • You clearly have not worked with decent welders then. Bet your a yank

  • I have worked on alot of shuttdowns with very good welders and they all walk the torch. And all the certs I have are in the 6GR if your a welder you will no what that means and I am not a yank

  • Of course I know what 6Gr is. 6= gravatational ie the pipe on 45degree G=groove and r=restriction rings on.

You must have real problems walking the cup around boiler walls, pendents tubes as there are only a few mm between them. Boilers seperate the men from the boys and its where the real money is, especially if you are mega quick.

    Pipeliners are paupers in comparasion.

I opologise for calling you a Yank that is a mega insult!!

Still could put a better cap on though, no probs.

  • I would have to disagree with you there I was on a superduplex job not that long ago and lets just say it was very good money. But every man to his own.

  • Hmmm not sure about that.

Like everyone knows, walking the cup was only devised for stick hands who wanted to learn to TIG weld. The fastest and most skilful guys always freehand.

  • I've welded pipe in shipyards for years and I agree and I'm a yank! Yes mirror welding x ray joints is the hardest

  • Makin' the big bucks!

  • Nice cap

  • To apply for high paying welder jobs visit Oilcareer com

  • do you put the stick in the puddle or the arc

  • u dab it in the puddle and try to keep the filler rod covered by the inert gas to stop it gettin contamanated

  • try and keep the wier in the puddle and your weld will stay clean shinney

  • walk that torch!!!!!!!!!!

  • woah thats like machine welded awesome

  • very nice
