I've been messing around with the "back-down" trick in my runs, specifically trying to implement them in the Crateria fall at the beginning of the game, as you did in this run. My question is how did you get so good at it?? It seems like i always end up losing my horizontal speed or keeping it for too long..
@MudSharkDanceLesson Make sure your thumb is doing exactly what it's meant to be doing on the D pad. It can be easy to not do one at all if you don't press it properly. Remember it's down first, then roll your thumb to the diagonal position and hold it until you've made the clearance. To stop her going too far just shift your thumb up a bit further to the back direction. From there, you can even initiate more back downs during the same fall after that.
@Giganotabehemoth87 Thanks man, your description really helped me out alot!! I've gotten the trick several times now, although I use Hotarubi's method by going straight down the middle instead of the side. Thanks again!
@TurtlekidX Oh yeah the thought certainly occurred to me. But I think for this game it was inevitable really that such runs would come about. I'm just the first to make a run that utilizes all the latest optimizations for console that used to be considered 'TAS' moves, but they are in fact anything but. There's a few other runners in the pipeline that will do the same thing for NTSC. It's going to be epic !
I can't remember what time he was aiming for when started the speedrun, maybe 50min. But as the run was going well, he started to think a 49 was possible. Now that he reached the last segment and after some tests, he found that, with a very high level of consistency, it's possible to get a 48 min run. If he manage to get this time, it will be a very high 48 min run for sure. Probably around 48min and 57/9 sec and it will be the world record for a very long time for sure!
@magooei Yup pretty much spot on !. Let's hope I can hit 48 because if I can't I'm gonna feel bad knowing that 48 is possible and probably unbeatable and not 49 like I originally thought.
So, this is not tool assisted? If is that, I admire you a lots.

This run is so nigh-TAS-level, you must've been worried that SDA would reject it.

@Giganotabehemoth87 I love that this game is still being optimized and broken in new and wonderful ways even today.
