the way that we are doing it is that somehow (the magical theatre) marty (instead of cha cha) is singing this at the prom and there is a live radio feed to sandys radio

it sounds really lame and corny

but it looks great

we also have a small vanity area so it looks like sandy is in her room down stage left.

it doesn't look bad at all.

What I like about this version is that you get that Sandy is singing along with the radio. I HATE IT when productions have the radio singer onstage with Sandy. A lot of HIGH SCHOOL productions have Cha-Cha onstage with Sandy which is just DUMB. In the original show the actress who played Cha-Cha was also the radio singer but she wasn't onstage with Sandy during the song.

i understand what you mean about wanting to get credit and be seen. however, i also think it's confusing to have someone (cha-cha or someone obviously already playing a character) onstage singing it with sandy when it's supposed to be on the radio. personally i think it doesn't really fit the story. but it's really up to the director's vision and it's their job to make it plausible to the audience.

I performed this song on piano with my friend at our high school's talent show. We dressed in drag as Sandy and Rizzo with wigs and poodle skirts. We killed. Wish I had the video.
