Dr Who is most likely looking at a milestone for directions in this clip. Milestones (daubed with British graffiti) were an important plot device in this episode. Chelmsford was a brilliant series, though you need an appreciation of British humour at its most sarcastic and self-deprecating to really enjoy it.
It is rumoured that the series ended and disappeared into the oblivion thanks to the professional split between acting and writing partners Rory McGrath and Jimmy Mulville.
have they released it yet on dvd format i have all of episode 2 on vid from 88 the secret cabaret used to follow it or was it before it mmmm anyway they was class the "who dares wins boys" in this let me know someone pls ......
It only made 2 series because it was crap....not everything that is rare is good quality. Though Chelmsford in AD 123 looked a more fun place to be than Chelmsford in AD 2007.
My point was that there may be more than one reason why a show has only two series. The reason for C 123 is that it was crap. A desire to maintain quality (and the fact that Booth and Cleese had already divorced) is the completely opposite reason why FT only made 2 series. Your opinion of C123 doesn't change the fact that McGrath Pope Mulville can't act - should have stayed performing in a sketch format - were cool in
So your opinion is the objective truth, while other people's opinions are just personal taste?
I think C123 was a great series which I would love to buy on DVD if it was available.
I personally think Mulville is a very good comedy actor, the C123 scene elsewhere on YouTube with his psychiatrist is brilliant, as are his dialogues with the chief guard.
And it wasn't just Mulville and McGrath, there were a string of comedy actors in this who went on to great things.
Jesus - who woke you up? I differ - I think they all came from great things - "Who dares wins" - the best of Pope, Mulville, Robinson and McGrath - yes of course in MY opinion. Whose opinion would you like me to give!
There was nothing mediocre about this series! It was fantastic, and just because "Blackadder" got the limelight, it's no reason to dismiss this little gem of a sit-com, and the sooner it is out on DVD the better!
No, I don't think he is taking a wee. I always took the joke to be that he got out, thought "bloody hell what a rubbish country" and time travelled off somewhere else.
The joke is just that Dr Who is there at all, that's why the audience laughs as soon as they see the Tardis. Not only is it in the wrong programme, it's on the wrong channel (Channel 4 instead of BBC).
dose it realy matter at the time Dr. Who was a GIANT hit and to just be random they decided to put the Tardis and Doctor in the show.. OOOH well problem solved " GAME OVER " please insert 1 token into coin slot to continue random rants......
I could not agree more with girlsngear this was a great show and who cares about Dr Who the point was in missing it Duh!

Well,I guess we know why the series was cancelled. The whole town must've been
annihilated after he left.

Er, Chelmsford 123 was not a 'mediocre' sitcom. It was a GREAT sitcom.

hoss1962 4 years ago
There was a 2 year gap between series, they wouldn't have gone back to it like that if the first one hadn't had some sort of redeeming qualities.
And Fawlty Towers only had two series, 12 episodes in total. Do you think that was crap?
Chelmsford 123 is actually a really good sitcom, not because it's rare but because it's funny and inventive and well written.

According to Wikipedia, he gets out to have a pee.
GracieLizzy 5 years ago
I wouldn't say he's out long enough to do that, and it doesn't look like that in the original video.

@MisterSix I think he is flicking the ash off a cigarette.

Wikipedia is a big load of lies though. He clearly doesn't, he's not out long enough.
