the result is a liberation of the genre-specific elements of BM from the stigma of kitsch and their elevation into means of musical resources proper. no gluing together of patchy riffs within the confines of the fixed and banal compositional corset known as 'metal' (or even 'rock' for that matter). to me at least, that is a development long overdue. finally, some bands are taking BM's latent musical potentialities and making them work in astonishingly new and intense ways.

in terms of compositional nuance and talent gy!be always stood out in my mind from the rest of the post-rock scene, which was/is mostly content with rehearsing the ever-same linear crescendos. gy!be knew how to develop their compositions along unexpected bifurcations. AB seem to be taking BM into the same territory of complexity and careful, precise weaving without at any moment losing the red thread of what seem 'logically necessary' compositional movements.
