  • you said it best!!! this is hiphop in it's purest form.

  • true that mang, the future music has really brought down the meaning of the lyrics provided by true rappers that tells shit that hits the truth and character of the soul of the mind.

  • I understand why dem old heads say u can like hear/ feel the streets in the music like in the beat u could like just see the ordinary average brotha on the block just walking around livin, not some gangsta thug nicca wit ice and rims

  • im old school and i love hiphop im not dissing the new school i just wish that when i turn the radio on i wish i heard a wider range of emcees instead of the same joints ova n ova again

  • Amen.

  • @junejao1 I feel you man, the real lyrical expression of self has been lost of the chase of the almighty Dollar.

  • KRS One and DJ Premier are on a higher level.

No one makes a beat or rides a beat like this these days.

  • even tho i didn't really grow up on this.. I'm glad i found this stuff early on before i got into the garbage the media tries to force feed us today. i don't even need to mention names yall know who im tlakin about

  • Yeah same here man like I'm 17, and even though so many amazing, and devastating things have happened in these years like I wish I could have grown up in this era when Hip-Hop well music in general meant something, and you had real rappers with real soul, and even though I couldn't I'm up on Hip-Hop, and I hope to pass this down to my seeds as well as young heads in the future... This needs to come back like Cassidy said "Hip-Hop ain't dead but I don't like the shit."

  • these lyrics are the best..

  • "here is the message for today, hip hop will surely decay" - KRS ONE, 1987

  • @enjoiCam 1987 was the year I was born. : (

  • Possibly the grea-TEST Hip Hop song on this topic, EVER...

  • Just great to chill to and smoke ya fuckin eyes red, keep it real brothers out there one love !

  • hey tks for posting the video and educating the public about music and good music at that

  • great song, krs always on point. Another great socially conscious song is dead prez's propaganda, shit is real.

  • Y'all got gist of it RIGHT ON now take that GIST like it was BABY JESUS HIMSELF THROWN INTO YOUR ARMS AND CARRY THAT DIVINE INFANT PERSONALLY CAREFULLY FROM BABYLON TO ZION!!!!

Here's a KEY to get thru the first PRISON: GOD IS COLOR-BLIND!!!!!

Here's a CLUE as to WHAT THE FUCK I'M TALKING ABOUT: LOVE IS BLIND

and my QUESTION 2 EVERY MAN BREATHING: WHY ARE WE AFRAID TO LOVE???

Because we LOOK at Love in OUR FUTURE with EYES OF OUR PAST and by doing that REMOVE ourSelves from the PRESENT.....

  • what are krs ones top 5 albums?

  • By All Means Necessary

    Criminal Minded

    I Got Next

    Edutainment

    Return of the Boombap

  • His old school joints was good, but his skills have evolved since then so....

    Adventures in Emceein

    krstyle

    keep right

    spiritual minded

    Maximum Strength

These are his top 5! Anyone that picks all his old albums are not aware that he drops 1 or 2 new albums a year! The old stuff is cool but his new joints is the reason he's still #1

  • he's last album was put together and sounded like garbage , but he's the teacher never the less, i really didn't enjoy the Nelly with krs one, that dint sound right, the classic krs one is the best then is life was alright and hip hop lives, i a really liked the kill a rapper song, what it's name?

  • @goodozog kill a rapper

  • His last album was his best since I Got Next, in my opinion. KRS is my favorite emcee of all time, always has been, but I do think his skills have declined. He still puts out a few bangers each year but I've found his albums on a whole have a lot of filler.

Even saying that though, his shit still destroys the garbage that passes for hip hop these days.

Return of the Boom Bap - this album is what hip hop sounds like kids.

  • Your last point is right on the money.... Return of the Boom Bap...one of the greatest hip hop albums in history

  • Along with It takes a Nation of Millions and Legend of the Wu Tang.

  • No doubt fam... I would add Moment of Truth by Gangstarr too

  • One word....Knowledge

  • My favorite song by him. Premo did it yet again. What else is new?

  • I got the Boom Bap when it hit the streets back in the 90's. Still a classic. KRS1!

  • this is a 'mad cool out' track

  • krs proves jesus was BLACK by quoting the white man's bible! genesis chapter 11 verse 10 ....

  • the GODfather of rap -- if anyone tells you that biggie or tupac is the best ever, ask them who biggie or tupac would say is the best ever .. they both would answer krs aka larry parker aka kris parker aka the teacher, poet, the DON!

  • Somebody better tell em. I remember when By All Means Necessary came out. My brother and I stole the tape from the Compton Swap Meet.

All messages are still relevant today.

  • WORD! and then ask the DON, or ANY FUCKING DON for that matter, who is the best ever.... ALL answer GOD as would ALL thier disciples..

TIME to UNdraw DRAWN lines and reDRAW into ONE!!!!!!

    aka GOD

    aka LOVE

    aka LIFE

    aka LIGHT

    aka ........ man?

FUCK FUCKING YEAH!!!!! And we WON'T STOP!!!!

HUMBLE YOUR ASS BEFORE GOD. FOOL. NOT Men!!!!

PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO THE BOTTOM OF THE RHYTHM FOOL THAT IS THE CENTER OF THE WRATH OF GOD EMMANATING FROM HIS/MAN'S/OUR HEART NOW ON MOTHER EARTH!!!!

  • Damn it's during these times that we need artists like KRS-ONE to keep showing these young rappers how it's done. Not I got bling, bitches, hos, cars, and a big house, etc..

  • Since Day one I hear his music and it's like he is talking to me....

Every Krs song will teach you something...if you listen.

This is a deep track on of my favorite of all time. I was totally immersed in this whole album when it came out.

The first time I heard this jam I was speechless.....

Krs One= Hip Hop in it's most pure form.

No Profit margins, no alterior motives, just pure Hip Hop...

Like a graff writer going out alone at 2am, just doing it for the love and purity of Hip Hop

  • yo who heard the new jaunt him and mos def made "bring the beat back"... old man still kills it

  • mistake... its talib kweli and called perfect beat

  • what a wonderful track.

    Beat is 5 stars.

I first thought this was produced by Pete Rock but i looked it up on Wiki and found out it was done by Premier.

It just had a typical filtered sound that PR uses a lot.

  • the drums at the time concluded that it wasn't a Pete Rock beat but Premier

  • the production: 10/10. The lyrics: timeless

  • 90's hip-hop son...

  • The beat is the definition of hip hop in the nineties.

  • this shit tight listen my ill beats too

  • 'a God that looks like me - a God that i can trust'

    awesome, simply awesome...

  • is he talking about Barack Obama?

    ..sarcasm..

  • haha, sounds like it, huh!?

thats why its so awesome, the message/vision is timeless.

too bad he wasn't born back in the day (when were uneducated) we would call him a prophet or nostradamus...

  • Hey ostione...it's funny you bring that up because I have referred people to this song when they can't understand why Obama's preacher would not want to say "God Bless America." It's a shocker for a lot of people that don't understand the system of oppression, and I think KRS skillfully explains why some minorities may feel like that.

  • thats word!

  • I thought it was pretty awesome when the lyrics at the beginning of this song showed up again in his song "Freedom" twelve whole years later.

  • this song is amazing

  • i guess he has lectured at harvard and yale and i can see why just listening to him.

    he is a genius

  • Why do you guess that?

  • Take a second, just, just Take a second.

    "It's 5 O'clock in the Morning"

KRS One is a fucking Genius. Rappers come and go, but no one can mess with the Lyrical Mastermind Knowledge Reigns Supreme!

  • Krs breaks it down on this one----Supa Ill!!!

  • That's right..He destroyed that fake white Christian religion on this one!!

  • Best track on the album in my opinion.

  • damm that was sick! He truly is that good! :D!

  • 60th rating! yeaah

  • I remember playing this song at least 15 times when I first got the album. That beat is fucking out of this world.

  • Its like my 3rd most plasyed on my itunes i listen to this song almost every day, fucking GENIUS... i havnet heard any of his new stuff, any good? I used to love BDP so much

  • Hey cvrenna, yeah his new stuff is just as amazing in my opinion! I'm a huge KRS-One fan...and I'd be willing to give you some recommendations of some his new songs to listen to if you're interested.

  • Sure that'd be great, just message me, I'll check out the albums. I think I heard hiphop lives or something like that and it was pretty good.

  • The beat is tight on this one.

  • my god, what a dope fucking track!!!

  • 35 ratings and its still 5/5 keep it up!!!!!!!

  • ?????

    It's KRS!!!

    =)

  • i REALLY like this beat!

it sounds to me like the wholw "boom bap" album is a good one...glad i bought it...and the lyrics are hopeful. :D

  • One of my alltime favorite Kris tracks.

It kinda cheapend it when he did a gospel album hahaha...but still, pure fyah.

  • KRS-One Is One Of The Most Influential Artist In The Game Today. His Music Speaks

    The Truth & No Lies.

  • Every Krs song will teach you something...if you listen.

This is a deep track on of my favorite of all time. I was totally immersed in this whole album when it came out.

The first time I heard this jam I was speechless.....

To this day when I hear this jam I think "I couldnt have said it any better myself"

Krs One= Hip Hop in it's most pure form.

  • and it's not just his incredible lyrics but also those beats with those filtered basslines and dirty drums... just love it

  • germany is listening to the teacher and blastmaster krs-one!!! peace

  • One of my favorite rap tracks of all time.

  • People have more respect for a holy book.

Than they do for a cow on a meat hook.

Vote for god, don't vote for the devil.

Let me take you to a higher level.

    Thank you KRS.

  • this song is so deep it would take most people their entire lives studying the subjects he is discussing to understand the gravity of his words even marginally

  • Thats the problem. Nobody wants to take the time to learn about something different and expand their understading of their own selves and their fellow man. Especially the youth: in this disposable, one-time-use-only world where the attention span is 3 minutes and 30 seconds, music is no longer made to compliment a person's intelligence, instead its made to bring you down to a lower level (Which is the message of KRS One!)!

  • Couldn't agree more. I see these kids every day. The ones walking around looking for the next big thing even if it's mindless and has nothing to say at least it's popular. KRS has a message, and having a message doesn't mean much now a days except to those who will take the time to listen.

  • i felt you on that. The attention span of a little kid, but its something that is natural in this day and age. We got mtv and media up our ass. Everything has changed

  • Oh I forgot something as usual - If it's only about a message in the song listen to the new stuff from Talib Kweli for example. The problem with him is that his skills don't reach near those of KRS. Where the problem lies... The message means nothing when it comes to the song to compliment our ears.

Conscience Hip Hop isn't dead... The artists creating it just sadly seem to think that it's only about lyrics. That's why I rather hear stuff like "Big L - All Black" than "Common - Be"...

  • I agree that conscious hip hop still has to sound good. There are some artists that may be positive as can be but it just doesn't sound good, of course no one will listen to it. It was either Chuck D or KRS that said "you can teach the sermon, but you still have to rock the boulevard." I agree completely.

I love Big L too, even though he was so violent, he was a lyricist and his flow was tight as hell.

But I'm 31 years old now and my tolerance for thug rap is waning, skills or not.

  • @HiResolutionist Yo you speak my mind. I'm 31 too son.

  • Music has always been for entertaiment. The tracks or artists who "complimented our intelligence" always have been rare. Would you call Ice-T or Wu Tang very demanding when it comes to the meaning of their lyrics?

Nevertheless KRS-One always been one of the best for me. Not only because of his lyrics, though. Otherwise I'd love stuff like Looptroop. It's also about flow and stuff like choosing the right beat to match your voice. To sound good. Not to make you think.

  • one of my favorite rap songs of all time.

  • yep me too

  • When I first heard this trak in around 93? no... blew me away! - this fills me up, musically and lyrically - one of the all time greats - this is my idea of spirituals... Premier on the beat? Cant remember anyway - KRS 1 you helped me thru it man believe me

    Thankyou

  • Thank you KRSONE for taking me to a higher level,Shout out to Premeire,Kid Capri and Kenny Parker.Freedom is within me,no one never dared to tell me that, thank you.All I need is health, wealth and knowledge of self.God lives within me.Shhhh they have hung Saddaam now.

  • im suprised he aint won any awards because other rappers have who i think r no where as good.

  • Magazines, rap city, sucka free and other so-called hiphop outlets don't wanna deal wit da truth.

  • krs-1 the best ever period!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chris!! The Man!!

  • this is a really great cd.

after BDP and onto his own, this cd came out hard with heavy beats by premier:). and also 2nd best lyrical wise other than "I Got Next":).

  • Bless you for putting this up.

  • everything he says still makes sense today

  • str8 ^ thats what u call timeless.

  • This was da shit, Krs is really da t'cha

  • It still is da shit!!!!!!

  • KRS ONE killed it on this track. Please revive Hip Hop again.

  • Classic KRS & Primo
