I saw them at the Forum in Montreal in May 1990 and May 1994 while visiting from Australia to see family in Canada. This takes me back to then. Rush rule, but just don't get played in Australia. What a joke. I've got all their albums and "Counterparts" is right up there and this track is one of the best off it.

Actually, to be honest, @I find it really difficult to comprehend how three guys in Canada can basically influence and know my life (in th eUK) for the last 35 years! But I'm not complaining.....
so i said to her i'm wearing my carlsbad caverns t-shirt from our albuquerque time machine trip. She didn't care. But it has Kokopelli on it! I said.
She said if love is so transcendent, I'm sure it'll come out in the wash.
I didn't know quite what to think of this song when I first bought this CD back in 93. But the bridge/chorus is so killer, it eventually won me over. Counterparts was a great Cd. Favorite track from that CD is "Cut To The Chase." I love "Double Agent" also.
You know something...I LOVE to ROCK n ROLL and I do to a small extent...but I wouldn't know the first thing how to play these (to me) complicated rock riffs Alex plays on here. (Of course, admittedly I have only an acoustic guitar...but anyway...) Keep on Rockin, Rush. Your sound's awesome!!!!
lol I like Alex's "Johnny Cash's" country pickin' at the beginning of this LOLOL!!! "I walk the Line" - I believe that was the picking from. Yeah a little trivia there interpersed with my comment here: I love Rush all the time!!!! I write my songs patterned after them don't worry I'm not gonna say any more about that. just saying that in passing LOL. Best 3 piece band in the world imho!!!!! Go RUSH!!! Whoooppp!!!!
@audio1358 right right right - lol. heheheh no law against me replying to this person ROFL!!! "yes i-tis! by jove I think you are right. Lifeson's just "warming up" heh. funny a rock band warming up the ole axe with a country & western song hahahaha. no I'm not denigrating them. I think it's neat! No law against a fantastic guitarist like Alex Lifeson to warm up with a country tune LOL! heheheheh. I know someone who does the very same thing. This person also (hahaha) tunes the guitar by ear.
@cyphrinfinity ...to continue: and this person uses no capo either lol. but might purchase a tuner in the future as too much hp use is ruining the sensitive decibel hearing she used to have in the 70s.
Counterparts was such a huge album for Rush. It's basically when they quit the keyboards and went back to the basics, which they're still sticking to 16 years later. I love that album because I think it gave Rush new life...plus it's a great album.
Hold Your Fire and Power Windows will remain to be favorites of mine and countless others. Good music is good music. You are right though, they did ditch the keyboards, but still keys weren't really bad for them at all.
@wrinkleneckbass I like their Prog rock era way better than their newer stuff. Presto and RTB are awesome, though Counterparts was a bit too angst/Alt/grunge for me. At least T4E went back to the prog shit. So did S&A with the time signature switches and stuff.
Shit for a bootleg, the sound is great. Whoever did this recording did an awesome job. However the best band in the "Whole Damn World" being recorded helps out alot as well!!!
It was long after midnight , when we got to unconditional love. It was in the afternoon only when Zarathustra, after long useless searching and strolling about, again came home to his cave. It was a long, manifold, peculiar cry,and Zarathustra plainly distinguished that it was composed of many voices: Thereupon Zarathustra rushed forward to his cave, and behold! what a spectacle awaited him after that concert!
I expect a whole lot from these guys. I set the bar really high, and no matter what, they always seem to pass well over it. I never can set it high enough for them. No matter what, Rush will always be considered one of the best.
I saw this tour in Providence, RI on May 1, 1994. The first Rush concert I went to. This was my first show since The Who in July, 1989 at Foxboro Stadium and then saw Pink Floyd on what now turned out to be their last tour for The Division Bell a few weeks after Rush. Geddy, Alex and Neil put on a great show. I wanted to hear the new material plus the classics and Neil's drum solo was phenomenal.
Geddy is singing the "backing" vocal part, and Lerxst is singing the "lead" vocal part. The reason being that Lerxst can't sing as high as he would need to for the harmony part.
It sounds good in my opinion... If you want it to sound like the record, listen to the record.
I seen Rush earlier this year and it was absolutely spot-on from all three of them. NO MISTAKES AT ALL!!! Absolutely amazing and this was not a big stop on the tour or a good Tuesday night audience. Either way I recommend them to anyone who likes to see good musicians have fun and play some good songs.
"Were gonna play the music that you love, and thats country and western music . . . and we're gonna' play 3 HOURS worth of it!" HAHAHAHA! that was great :P -MAVIII(prOgulus. c o m)
Great guitar solo on the album version Meanwhile, Alex has failed to reproduce this amazing solo note for note when it came to playing it live. That never used to be the case.
Every desperate, frustratet man's anthem as well.seriously, how can you think this is a song to confirm women in what they do? i think it is more to sum up all things that men cannot understand, as women often say the opposite of what they want or mean. Just don't disappoint me, you know how complex women are
I totally agree with you. I think it's a guy who wants to take a relationship further physically because the emotions are there and she puts up boundries and he dosen't understand. Yes again I agree
It's art. Art is interpreted differently by different people. I'm sorry you've somehow been frustrated by one woman or another at one time or another. I'm sorry you've been made to feel desperate. Emotions are often times contradictory. Who wants to be let down or pushed down? IMHO the woman in question is merely standing up for herself--being honest, setting boundaries. Everyone has boundaries, even if his/her love is boundless. Seems reasonable to me. Anyway, that's my interpretation.
This is my favorite Rush song ever. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Geddy went from singing like "Geddy" to singing a little more restrained (which is good). Awesome either way.
I love this song, Rush the best rock trio of the Universe!

this song would be just as good live (in my opinion) if they didn't use recorded samples of geddy's voice
it's so frustrating that they continue to do this on so many songs when they don't really have to
It doesn't need to sound exactly like the recordded version.
pm3181 1 year ago
why is it frustrating? do the samples make the song sound any worse live? (my answer: no) so what's the problem?
