I'd have liked more shaping of the chorale prelude at the beginning of the piece. It seemed as if they were just "doing time" and waiting to get through to the more exciting parts to come. The first part needs to be shaped and its texture made more vibrant and alive, as if a vocal ensemble were singing and breathing together. The cut-offs were too automatic, no sense of the rise and fall of breath that can make that section so much warmer and more interesting to listen to. Otherwise, quite good.
my high school band is way smaller than this! then again, im in Wind Ensemble, and all the other freshman SUCK, so they are in our Symphonic band. (im a freshman) but in our Wind Ensemble, were pretty much a band for chamber music, cuz there is 1 french horn (me), 1 oboe, 3 tumpets, and just 1 or 2 of all the other instruments. i hate being so exposed though :\
I played this piece twice, during high school and years later at Vandercook College of Music. I played the euphonium. It is somewhat of a difficult piece if your skills aren't quite developed. It is a beautiful composition though over all.
This is a quality band. I'd love to be a part of this group.
Anyone who can play in a band this good or about this good is very fortunate. My school's band was like this my freshman year, and until now (senior) it has declined to a 40 person band with 4 seniors. It doesn't sound close to as good as this.
my high school played this last year, and right before competition the french horn play got his braces off so he totally killed (as in played badly) the first three notes of the entire piece...
i played 1st trombone in my hi school band. you guys sounded great but a small pointer to the 1st trombone, work on slide technique. it allitle sloppy but other than that its pretty good. dont feel like saying anything else..
i think i hear talking in the background... hopefully they're judicators. i'd be so proud if this was my band. your ensemble has a great low sound and can hold melodic lines... and they seem all at a high level. it takes a lot to have this caliber of an ensemble. you're my hero.
@TheAnokhee WOW! In 7th grade? you band director must believe in you guys! and good luck! its hard! but as my director says, good music dosnt have to be hard, and vice versa, so just play this song as musically possible! :)
just played this at band camp. :] loved it, so much energy.
i played piccolo on this. so much fun.

In my opinion, the brass is better than the woodwinds here.
