The evidence of a hoax is crushing. I posted a partial summary of it on a science forum. To see it, google "The Naked Scientist". In the "New Theories" section there's a thread entitled "Did we land on the moon?". The post is on page 15. It's the 7th one from the top.
Actually the answer to that simple question is very complex.
A winged vehicle could be used for lunar flight but it would require a heavier TPS and would likely require a skip reentry.
The engineering on getting a capsule or lifting body to handle lunar reentries is a lot easier and it's more mass efficient.
Though the Apollo shape isn't the best shape for the task the biconic and HL20 shapes have better lift to drag while the discoverer and headlamp/soyuz shapes are more mass efficient .

The moon landings were all faked in a studio. They never went to the moon. Here's a link to some of the evidence.

Haha, back in 1972, the Shuttle was state-of-the-art technology!
Now, NASA plans to revive the Apollo design. Back to '68 we go!

The only thing that's crushing is the tightness of your tinfoil hat.
