BlizzCon was never cancelled. BlizzCon is used to for new information from the company about itself and games. Right now, Blizzard is busy with MoP, HotS, and D3 and trying to get all of these games ready for release. We already know pretty much everything about these titles. There isn't much that hasn't been covered in passed BlizzCons, and there are no new games to discuss. Blizzard wil not host BlizzCon this year, no news. Nothing to do with a "negative" state of the company or cancelling.

On the Diablo 3 matter i think that we should just let Blizzard do it's thing really because let's be honest not much else we can do really. Every time they worked on a game they put out something awesome even if we had to wait a while. I don't see why this would be different.

About the removal of stuff well i really think that none of us can really have a decent objective opinion about it since we have no clue really how they affect game play up to Inferno.

I don't think they should hurry Diablo 3 at all. Part of Blizzard's good reputation is based on their history of waiting until their games are ready. I think they lose money by waiting, not just from Diablo 3 sales but by their deal where you get it free for subscribing to Wow for a year. A lot of people are interested in this deal but are waiting for Diablo 3 release. So they are probably losing some Wow subscription money by delaying Diablo 3 release. And THAT impressed me all the more.

Too much on their plate to finish developing, so they're making cuts to get it done faster. It's not a bad thing. They can always add this stuff back later with patches (or more likely: expansions) when they have a better idea how to implement the content (like Mystic).

Lets just face it. When Diablo 3 come out it will be a good game, keeping track of all the little changes and so on is just a waste of anyone's time. Tons of stuff from SC2 was removed before it was released and thousands and thousands of rebalances were done only days before release.

It's like they have absolutely no confidence in their product and they have to keep going back to revise and remove things like they're insecure or something. Personally I think it is a good thing that they took out scroll of companion. From the videos that I have watched, they didn't have much functionality but to be at your side, and sometimes hardly visible lol. It would be nice to see what they can implement with the companions when they decide to add it to a future patch after release. Yea it looks fun to have a companion but it would even be better if they took it out, thus speeding up release(idk, maybe lol.) and making the companion active

I think the reason why they are doing all of this is because of Activision pressuring them to release the game. And since Blizzard doesn't want to release unfinished products, they are removing things that they do not think are complete to add them further down the road. I doubt that they would cancel Blizzcon and remove all of those features if they were not pressured to release the game ASAP.

I fucking hate Activision, to me it can only be because of them.

honestly I think its good that Blizzard still manages to take its time with release dates. In the past, certain game companies would take their time, in order to produce a QUALITY game. Nowadays that is a rare thing, so it's good to see that there are still some companies that consider the quality of what they're making first, before it's released.

I'd like to point something out: Blizzcon wasn't cancelled. Blizzard isn't doing one this year because they don't normally do them annually. You can't cancel something that wasn't scheduled to begin with.

Also, Lupine73 nailed the removal of systems from beta. In addiction, Content in beta isn't set in stone and can be changed or removed later. Just because a few developers don't remove systems that are in their beta doesn't mean all companies do the same.

Err... Actually, it's not typical for items to be removed during beta. Beta testing is the period where the game is considered "code complete" and "feature complete". That is, all features are in place and the game is "finished".

Beta Phase is intended only to test for bugs or issues that could greatly impact the gameplay in a negative way, or otherwise be "show stoppers", not to add or remove features or functionality.

It seems Blizzard is treating it as a Beta in name only.

@lupine73 usually yes, but they might have discovered an issue with the scrolls that seemed more difficult to fix than to just remove the scrolls entirely. Perhaps they were a simple enough component of the game that they didn't matter.

Or you might be right. They might be spinning us a line telling us it's in beta so we'll think it's going to be released soon.

Go do some research and educate yourself on how software development works and find out what Alpha and Beta phases are and what they involve.

I realize game developers have begun using Beta as a convenient marketing/hype tool, and so many just assume that's all it's for. There's plenty of people who will argue as much. They're wrong. If you think that's what it is, you're wrong too.

One the hand, people should stop being severely dramatic and wait for the game to be released when it's well and ready. On the other hand (as has been shown in the past), the game COULD be released more quickly if the question is only whether certain items should be in play; they can be added with patches or, more likely, expansions. If that's really all that the creators are worried about right now, then maybe a sooner release date would be ideal. I'd just hope there's more to it than this.

:S I finally started FF14... at first it was really weird... seemed kinda of crappy compared to 11... the 1.21 update sounds like it'll be cool though! Anyway.... diablo 3 sounds like its going to be sucky at release... which is fine, im sure they'll add content consistently for the first year or two. I think i might end up playing 14... seems like a good time to have started it! ff11 went along way from their lv50 cap at NA release... so 14 sounds like it'll be promising in the near future!!
