see the way that when the girls thought Stevie was some big shot on the TV they were all interested, but the second they realised he was just trolling he went back to being a rodent, just about sums women up that.
........*buys amiga and attachable camera and tells someone to hook up a wire to my girlfriend's tv that lives in Pennsylvania when I live in Missouri and makes up a little video where I win something or I just act like I'm in front of thousands of people and say I love her more than anything :)*
Yes, this was more like 1989. I remember specifically looking them on cable around that time (that pretty much sums up Commodore's marketing... you had to search for their ads). It certainly wasn't 1983 because the A500 wasn't released until 1987.
On DVD edition of Cloanto's Amiga Forever there is a video, where Jay Miner speaks on Amiga developer's conference in Dallas, 1989.
At the beginning of his presentation showed this an similar TV ads from Commodore as brand new ones.
He wisely criticized them, because these commercials maybe impressed some idiot teenage boys, but didn't show the real capabilities of Amiga hardware and routines.
Exactly. I spoke with some CBM reps on Compuserve about the time these commercials came out (around 1989) and made some suggestions for "grown up" ads that dealt with the environment and problem solving, and they responded enthusiastically. Never saw the commercials though. Just these.
Remembering my ideas... One ad started out on a boat with "The Oh of Pleasure" (Tangerine Dream) playing in the background. Kind of silhouetted, some scientist stood/sat around an Amiga, on board. It showed a mic trailing into the water at one point, and they successfully communicated with whales, shown in text on the Amiga's screen. The scientists were all apologetic and the whales' response basically said they believed in us all along. Then the Amiga logo... fade to black.
Another ad I suggested had Lynch's "Celestial Soda Pop" playing. It started with an eagle flying over a devastated landscape, and over other environmental problem spots. Then as it flew, the ad showed people using Amigas to find solutions, and as the bird flies off, the landscape changes to a living one(kind of like the Genesis demo from "Wrath of Khan".)
I had alot of fun on my Amiga 500. :) I still have it in perfect condion... (somewhere) I miss those days. Pretend to be sick so i could stay home from school and play "quest for glory" "kings quest" "lesuire suit larry"
But, as two of Amiga's supported video modes were NTSC and PAL along with the ability to genlock to a video feed made Amigas very useful for creating video effects and adding titles.
The Amiga were capable to do almost everything that a PC or MAC can do today. With "Reflections" even a 3D-modeling-software was available, including a editor for vertices, lines and faces, a render-engine, material-settings, textures etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting Amiga down by what I said, it just suprized me is all. There's no reason to give my comment a thumbs down, in fact I think if commodore were still around today, their latest Amigas would be better than today's PCs and Macs.
IIRC, the "Creative Mind" series of commercials didn't come out until 1989 or 1990... I recall discussing them on Compuserve at the time with some other developers.
I agree with you, maybe he did a mistake writting the year or something. I still have my two Amiga at home and works fine to me. One is Amiga 500 and the other Amiga 1200, I love my commputers.

Not too many people know that this was a mentos commercial that was never used so Commodore bought it.

@teamwrp - this was 1987 at the earliest, not 1983...

Wait... why would they need the computer, if the cable was hooked onto the camera? :-D

The titling effects.

@Hiraghm But it looked like the camera was hooked directly into the tv, bypassing the computer :-D

Hm, the music in the background is the opening theme of the Goonies movie which was from 1985. So I'd be surprised if this commercial were from 1983.

(Correction, Ray Lynch did "Oh of Pleasure")

1985 = Amiga 1000, the original model
1987 = Amiga 500 & 2000 models
1983 = no Amiga

Wait a minute, the old Amiga's were capable of video editing? I thought only today's PC's and MAC's could do this.
CoolDudeClem 2 years ago
They mean it can overlay graphics onto video and do video mixing/effects etc. It is all recorded on tape, not digitally.

Not exactly.

Dude you'd be surprised back then Commodore Amiga was way ahead of its time. way ahead of pc. had way better graphics than pc too.

@Hiraghm NO, they are NOT.
A four year old dual core CPU, DDR2 ram, and a single user operating system fundamentally incapable of SMP or memory protection is pathetic.

@doritostheking - hate to tell you this, but the X1000 can have up to 256 cores.
Hiraghm 9 months ago
@Hiraghm Sure, XMOS bullshit. which OS4 does not and will not support. So your only option is linux to use XMOS.
In which case, just go buy a fucking XMOS board for your linux PC.
doritostheking 9 months ago
@doritostheking - oh? you know that OS4 won't support that?
What makes you think I have a Linux PC?
Nevermind, I learned a long time ago that sooner or later you have to stop feeding the trolls.
Go hate on someone else.
Hiraghm 9 months ago
@Hiraghm I know OS4 won't support that because they admitted as much.
You most certainly have a PC. Logic dictates you can install linux on it.

Not to get all geeky on you, but the Amiga 500 was introduced in 1987, not 1983.
