Uncle Tony, I don't agree with everything you said, but on this issue, we see eye to eye. Just because we might despise a group doesn't give us the right to silence that group. I think we both dislike that bunch of Westboro Baptist idiots, but i would never stand for their rights being curtailed. This is ridiculous. And, FYI, the evangelical Protestants have been POSTER CHILDREN for church-related thievery. They have NO right to be criticizing anyone else!
when the nazis were eliminating one group after another....are you a fucking retard? look who they were eliminating you fat little toad they were eliminating THE LEFT!!! god conservatives are getting dumber by the second. fuck theocrats
also... it should be pointed at that these rules would NOT have applied to general church funds... only those divested into separate corporate entities retaining the funds of the catholic church, but operating in a tax exempt status. There is no "tradition" over how this is done...because non-profits usually aren't allowed to divest funds that way.
:" so is there anything in the bill that specifies the catholic church....or is the church just drumming up context so that they can appear to be the victims and matyrs again? just curious. " :
REALITY??? I'm not the one thats allowing a former Nazi to convince me that its against the greater good to persecute sexual offenders and to have financial oversight over non profit companies. Maybe you need to come back to reality???
You're an idiot. You keep saying that I claimed something I didn't. I asked you a question idiot.
Regardless... STOP WHINING.... I'm sorry your church leaders are thieving pedophiles but you can't expect everybody else in the world to blindly ignore their tax fraud and rape just because you are so desensitized to it.
Conservative Christians whine more then any other group and yet have no sympathy for anybody.
The whole point you are missing is that its B/C it was JUST ONE PRIEST. JUST ONE PRIEST shouldn't have that much power...which was what the law is rectifying.
@judderwocky - The whole point is you wrote it did not target the Catholic Church. When I showed you the legislation does indeed target the Catholic Church, you then attempt to move the goal post. Sorry, not falling for it. Please stay on topic.
@PropagandaBuster ... well you're flat out lying. I asked a question that I did not know the answer to... I never made a statement. I admit I asked it in an obnoxious manner... but that should hardly bother you. After reading about the legislation (at the link you provided), I have formed my opinion that saying they are being "targeted" is disingenuous( due to the privileged class of non-profit corporate exemptions given specifically to the church in previous legislation).
Lol. Ok, saying that this singles out the Catholic Church is a little disingenuous....I just read the bill, and its an amendment to a preexisting law in Connecticut that allows the Church to maintain its tax exempt status on separately filed corporations. Normally (and in many states) such organizations do not maintain their tax exempt status, but this previous law allowed the Catholic church exemptions to this. The law only affected control of these additional corporations that were exempted.
@judderwocky - Never mind your interpretation of why the law was written. Bottom line it targets the Catholic Church as I stated, which claimed it did not.
@PropagandaBuster . I asked a question as to whether it did. It was not a statement. Perhaps you should reexamine the grammitcal context... For instance, the usage of the question mark, denoting that it as a question and not a statement. I admit, when I asked the question I did not know the answer.
so is there anything in the bill that specifies the catholic church....or is the church just drumming up context so that they can appear to be the victims and matyrs again? just curious. My understanding of the bill is that it simply demands that non-profit institutions be required to have a corporate board that over sees finances.
So how does applying a rule to all non-profit organizations translate into targeting the catholic church?
@judderwocky - Really? May I ask, before you posted your comment and assumed it covered all non-profits did you happened to read the legislation? Just curious. Please type into Google using quotation marks, "Bill 1098"
This bill is an ammendment to previous bill that allowed the Catholic church to create corproations that shared their tax exempt status. My understanding is that normally "feeder" corproations for non-profits do not retain their tax-exempt status...So, the catholic church was already being treated differently. This was not a violation of the constitution because it simply altered requirements for creating these additional corporations being granted an exception.
@judderwocky additionally it is within the purvue of a state's power to assess abuses of financial stewardship in non-profit organizations.... if a non-profit is abusing the status it is given, then it is effectively stealing from the state. These measures were desired (albeit tabled) because the church in that region had abuses of the exemptions that were in place. It seems as though the priest was able to use these corporations to funnel money to his spending habits.
@PropagandaBuster ... How can you target somebody by allowing them an exemption??? The catholic church is being allowed to do something differently than everybody else... it abused this privilege, but is being allowed to keep it on the condition that lay people from within the catholic church be allowed to oversee these additional corporations. that's not targeting.... that's accountability after impropriety.
@PropagandaBuster no... it doesn't target the catholic church. The church is benefiting from a preexisting exemption that was added to the states law. The church was granted exemptions for its affiliated corporations for tax purposes. How can bill target somebody by changing the way in which they are privileged???
Somehow, there must be accountability. If the state steps in, its only because the church needs to be held accountable. Thats why the people want this move. The church has done a less than poor job of policing itself. My spelling isnt always perfect, but your church is a lot worse.
you know, you are really giving the Holy Roman Catholic church a bad name by supporting Rush Limbaugh or Rupert Murdock. The Holy Father would be appalled if he found out that Catholics support men like that. Keep the Church and politics separate please
$ 1.7 MILLION Thats a lot of money. If anyone else did it they would do twenty years! You arent responding to peoples comments. BECAUSE, THE TRUTH WILL NOT BE DENIED !!!
Besides that, the cathaholic church had the most to loose in the war. The money, the power and control. Wow, no surprise. They are just too corrupt to go unpunished. I HOPE CONNECTICUT PUTS THEM WHERE THEY BELONG, IN JAIL !!
gibson girl, My biggest problem with the Catholic church is they are hiding PEDOPHILES !!! Its the poop and other church leaders that should go to jail for harboring pedophile priests. WHEN ANY organazation breaks the law, they must go to jail. Besides they have the richest bankroll in the world. So are you saying they should go free?? I hope not.
See that's my problem with elections and politics. People tell people that they're doing Satan's work by being a certain political party. Jesus said "love thy neighbor" that includes YOU. Don't let any election get in the way of loving your neighbor. Not all Democrats are anti-Catholic and not all Republicans do God's work. STOP THE HATE!!! Democrats and Republicans should be friends instead of enemies!
Why dont they prosacute all the Pediphile priests!! The law doesnt mean anything!! Thats what this guy says. I am sick of the corrupt Catholic church buddy!!! The richest religeous organazation in the world. And one of the most corrupt. Some of its followers blindly follow it. Put your glasses on America!!!! What a moron!!!

Religion always cries foul when the state or person stands up to them. Yet religion has no problem violating, discriminating, or harassing others. So yee-haw it is about time the state told the Church what to go do with itself.
I think your attack on Democrats is a huge over reaction. So sorry we Democrats have freedom of speech as well. On the other hand, if Catholics don't care that priests steal their money, why should I? Just keep your priests hands off of children. Can we agree on that? By the way, the Nazi's rounded up homosexuals and the Pope was on the side of the Nazi's.
OH YEA WE ARE ALL SHEDING A TEAR FOR THE CATHOLICs .....POOOR POOOR CATHOLICS THEY DO NOTHING WRONG ALL THEY WANT IS LOVE AND PEACE, YET THEY ARE THE ONES PROMOTING HATE AND RACISM IN THIS COUNTRY.
do you even havea ny clue how wrong you are? i am Catholic, and we promote equality WORLD WIDE and are taught to love everyone the same. we are one of the few Christian religions who do not consider homsexeuality a sin. it says in the Bible that marriage is between a man and a woman so we follow that. i personally believe that the federal government and other religions can allow gay marriage because that isn't my place to say they can't. but you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
Catholic were the first to reject the NAZI regime during WWII. You have no idea about the saints and the story of Mother Teresa and all the pro-life work they do. Tell what hate and racism.... you are told lies!
Now for the most part I am a Democrat. and I agree with wat democrats do usually, however when any goverment partisan works its way into the religious system. That raises concern. I am a Roman Catholic, and the laws set by the Roman Catholic Church, should be respected as long as they do not interfere directly with government policy and visa versa. Unfortunately I'm not a citizen of connecticut, but i'm sure it'll come my way soon. I'll be looking out for it, thank you for staying on top.

So according to this one, Connecticut is atacking the Cat'lick Choich" ?
Well history has shown us what happens when the "Cat'lick Choich" gets too much power and/or authority...
No sense in pointing out to this uneducated bozo that according to the Declaration Of Independance as AMERICANS we are not to bow down or be loyal to ANY foreign monarch and the Pope is a FOREIGN Monarch.
He is also the temporal leader of the Church. This is why the first ammendment was crated. Besides, there are Imams and other Jewish authorities OUTSIDE the U.S. whom people follow as spiritual leaders.Exactly how even handed are you as an American??
Someone ought to tell this man that HItler was a Roman Catholic...... and so was Heinrick Himmler. Oh yea, on so was Franz von Papen. Wait, come to think of it, a great many of the NAZI war criminals were ROMAN CATHOLIC. Almost forgot to mention this as well but in 1933 the German Nazi administration signed a Concordat, a contract with the Vatican, with future pope cardinal Eugenio Pacelli. Imagined that, the Vatican involved in Nazi politics. Almost reminds me of the current situation here
PsychoPunk1965: This video was about pending legislation in CT which if had passed was a clear violation of the USA. constitution. Your reply was to ask questions about my position on the Iraq War, the death penalty, immigrants, economic justice, wages, and trade unions visa vie the Catholic Churche's position.
All of which have absolutely nothing to do with this video the subject which concerned a violation of the constitution and an assault on the Roman Catholic Church in America.
The Roman Catholic Church opposes the Iraq War. What is your position on the Iraq War? The Roman Catholic Church opposes the death penalty. What is your position on the death penalty? The Roman Catholic Church supports justice Latino immigrants. What is your position on immigration, and is it different from the Roman Catholic Church? The Roman Catholic Church tend to support economic justice and living wage campaigns which is pro trade unions. What do you stand on that issue as well?
You fail to look at the one important difference between abortion and all those issues you reference in your comment. That difference being the taking of a human life via abortion is the taking of an innocent life. While the issues you mention the innocence can be debated rightly or wrongly. Whereas the innocence of the unborn is not debatable. It is in that un-debatable innocence which separates the issue of abortion from all others.
There are all kinds of life issues out there. If the Pope is infallible, you should be consistent with regard to all life issues: be in abortion, the death penalty, war, immigration, living wage campaigns, etc...
For starters, everything. What about innocents on death rows? Some of them are innocent, and that's good enough reason to try to end the death penalty. I am not a Roman Catholic, but I am an Anglo Catholic. Capital punishment is anti-life and perpetuate violence...
This bill is preposterous! This is a wake-up call for what has yet to come. We must fight off the destructive forces of these anti-religious fascists with all we have. I know I'm busy doing just that.
Protestants, although I am Catholic and we have have some polite differences, pay close attention to this issue, because I suspect you are next. We have to fight this kind of oppression no matter who it is happening to.
Why do you feel hard done by!?? you absolutley infuriate me.'This one priest...' maybe that one preist on this money skimmimng but the bloody crimes that preists commit and end up sheltered by the church.A full head to tail sift through all the vaticans misdemeanours would probably read like a mario puzo novel!! your complete lack of impartiality astounds me!! And talk not of WW2 Jews please, the current bloody pope was Hitler youth for fucks sake!!!!
It seems that you don't believe in God and the Word of Christ. No One is immune from sin...including priest. If you are unfortunate enough to see a lot of death, you will see that most everyone...at least everyone that is able, is pleading for God to save them before they die...even so called Non Believers. I guess that if you still refuse to believe, then when your turn comes to die, you will not be afraid. My bet is, that you will, and you will pray! In the meantime, I pray for you
I am a Catholic living in Connecticut, and when news came of this bill everyone was (for the most part), outraged. There were protests at the captial, and in the end they pulled the bill. But this is an important lesson of big goverment and how important the constitution is.
It is too late. The ark door is shut. If people are not right with Jehovah now, there is no hope for them. It has come as a thief in the night. I am just sick at heart. Jah revealed to me there are many, and I mean many, JW's who have lived double lives. I feel sorry for them. There is nothing that can be done. For those of us that are faithful, we must announce the Great Tribulation has begun and why Jehovah is destroying the wicked. This is a test of your faith brothers and sisters!!
I don't use that kind of language on propos video sites usag.....he doesn't like it. You'll notice if I need to put you in your place it's done privately.
That's why they use political correctness to silence all dissent.
That's why they want the fairness doctrine to squash all dissent.
That's why Eric Holder wants to censor the internet.
That's why they have this Satanic Obama-OCRACY!
It's why they want to pass laws to redefine your religion's definition of marriage and then expect your religion to now comply and follow their unconstitutional new re-definition of it.
HAN....you don't even know what the hell you're talking about....the last 8 years was closer to fascism than anything Clinton or Obama offer. Expand beyond talk radio...you might get a freaking clue.
@HippiesAreNazis Satanic Obama-ocracy... really? You have been watching too much Glenn Beck. For the record, the new definition of marriage would be anything but unconstitutional, it would give equal rights to ALL the people of the United States, thus supporting our constitution. Should you or you're religion chose to not get with the times (as is the trend with many religions) then so be it but please explain to me why you feel the need to deny marriage to specific individuals.
usag.....those who earn more have always paid more taxes. Yes you're an extremist...look at the lying filth you spew like your marxism label you love to plaster on people.
These totalitarians have been targeting the so-called "fundies" for a loooong time. They focused on dissing the "fundies" during the election because they knew they would never get those votes. And unfortunately many other Christians did not recognize that this was only a first step and even still voted for Obama, Inc. But now Obama, Inc. has enough power to go after other more organized Christians as well. It was only a matter of time.
Who are the totalitarians specifically. Christians voted for Obama in droves because they realize just how incompetent the born again guy turned out to be.
By the way do you consider the Patriot Act totalitarian?
USAG why would I be jealous of Rush Limbaugh? I'm a happy man. I do have a problem with government clamping down on religion... as I agreed with propo on this issue. Do I agree with Propos absurd liberal conspiracy crap....absolutely not. As you can see this bill was stopped....just as I said it would. Keep up the extremist stuff....and propo...I in my most liberal mood would never ever don commie cloths or call my fellow Americans comrad even as a joke.....
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. This bill is unconstitutional period ; should be the end of story but they are shredding the contitution.
Having said all that, I do agree with this gentleman in the video. The Government should butt out of peoples lives, their Churches, and their organisations. It is typical socialist supplanting.
This law is designed to protect the interests of parishiners who are tired of seeing the money they give go to pay off lawsuits that the church keeps the parishiners in the dark about.
so what you're saying is this law (which violates the constitution) is designed to protect the interests of parishoners? would there be equal outrage if CT tried to pass a law which dictated how muslims could organize in their mosques? or jews could appropriate funds in their synagogues ?
I'd have no problem with that. Its a financial issue pure and simple. The bill was designed for Catholics to have more of say in their parishes. The Church simply doesn't want to open up its books to its parishiners...
im a catholic and find your opinion very scary. if your unhappy with the way our church is ran then you can leave the church. the church isnt perfect, but thats because its ran by man. but man also has choice, so as i stated if you dont like the church, then you dont have to stay.
I'm a loyal Catholic who believes in my faith but I simply don't have a lot of faith in some of the people who run the Church.
What amzes me is that I can bet you have a problem with the way goverment spends money but your ok with the Church not being accountable to its parishiners???
Wrong, this law is payback for not supporting gay marriage, as well as trying to force the church to ordain women. It's "catholics" like you who need to go away, and stay there.
Nope its about making sure the book are open to the members of the parish. Plain and simple.
Catholics like me were the ones speaking out to have pedophiles cast out from the ranks of priests who devote their lives to GOD and whose reputations are stained by the presence of such vermin.
Catholics like you chastised those who complained and spoke out and pretended everything was ok when it wasn't...
I want to see how Church prosper you would rather see it shrivel up and die..
If they don't like the way their church is run then they need to change it within the church not go running to the gov. to change it for them. If they don't like how the money is spent stop paying it! When my church started to do things that weren't Biblical (UCC) we stopped paying them and left the denomination. This bill is unconstitutional read the 1st amendment.
I wasn't happy the legislature brought this bill but I understand the rational. Its about chuches being open to its parishiners. Plain and simple.
By the way its not unconstutional. It doesn't tell the Church how to worship, or its policies, just their finances. And that would not fall under a seperation issue or free speech. Show me SPECIFICALLY how this is a 1st amendment issue...
I'm personally not Catholic... and I have a few things against Catholicism..... *BUT*.... this is bullcrap, they should be able to run their church as they see fit. This kind of law passing has to stop.
I don't want to outlaw religion you over reactive children I just don't want it to mix with the government. It's kind of ridiculous that we make policies based on religion.
Also if someone offered to pay me huge amounts of money to say dumb things like Limbaugh I'd do it. Contribute nothing to society and get paid now that's a dream job.
Just for the record, I think gay marriage is the best thing since sliced bread. I'd rather let the gays be chained to one mate just like everyone else, rather than be off screwing around, spreading STDs, and driving up everyone's insurance rates with AIDS. Let the gays suffer through marriage just like everyone else.
If people really cared about marriage, they would legislate against divorce. But people are selfish hypocrites, who think about themselves first, and not their children.
It was Roman Catholic laypeople who proposed the bill and who felt the State should protect them from a Medieval and corrupt financial hierarchy system- not force them into slave camps as you implied. There are laws about church corporations already, so amending already existing laws to protect people from irresponsible corporate mismanagement (churches are incorporated) is not some wild-eyed, crazed attempt to go after and destroy the Roman church. It's plain old fairness.
Since you didn't mention how I was "misinformed" I gather that was just hyperbole, or do you actually know in what way I am misinformed? What do Korean restaurants have to do with this topic? Is your whole purpose in life to go around rambling about whatever pops into your head at any given time? BTW, the USA is one of only a handful of countries that still use "tipping". It's a crude, out-dated form of bribery- no wonder it's still popular in the States.
What are you talking about? Let's see: Nancy Pelosi Catholic, Joe Biden Catholic, Edward Kennedy Catholic, Most of the Demorcratic leadership are Catholic John Kerry, John Edwards Bill Clinton, Hillary, on and on. This is a smokescreen. It is none of the states business how a church handles its finances though. Fight it. I would once again like to see this a free Protestant nation . You papists can sponge off our values though.
Oh look another persecution complex-fueled video what else is new (although usually it's the protestants and evangelicals who engage in this behavior).
Propo.....we're on the same page on this issue. While I do support homosexual rights it appears this legislation is a vindictive piece by two homosexual democrats who've been spurned in their attempts to further gay marriage. You'll see there will be little support for this issue. I believe greatly in the seperation of church and state.....not stupid irresponsible legislation.
Roy....times change...I don't need fixing I'm just a realist. Our nation's young aren't afraid of gays and will give them rights/marriage in a couple of years. I suggest my heterosexual friends to work harder on their marriages so the gays don't have smaller divorce rates...wouldn't that be embarrassing?
The separation of church and state is an important an issue as there is in this country....I don't want extremist christian or Islamic religions dictating to our government.
How could a realist lean toward the left or the right?
"I don't want extremist christian or Islamic religions dictating to our government."
A realist don't have a political opinion. They just call them as they see them. You've been BUSTED you hiv infected monkey...damn, there I go again using that word.
roy.....a realist can't have a political opinion? According to who? A realist understands no party has all the answers. A realist believes society evolves. A realist isn't stuck in yesterday. I don't belong to a political party and have a blend of liberal and conservative beliefs. To suggest anyone would go through life in America without political beliefs is pretty shallow.
"I absolutely support hate crimes and anti-discrimination legislation"
There's no such thing as hate crimes. A crime is crime. In order to prove a criminal act one needs to prove opportunity and...motive. From a realist point of view, the varying degree of motive does not change the crime itself. A rape is a rape regardless what the motives were.
Therefore my left leaning dildo, you are not a realist for the fact you attempt to change something that it is not through legislation.
I'm a Roman Catholic and I take this issue very personally. These damn atheistic marxists better just mind their own business, or there will be trouble for them.

Keep religion private. If they refuse to keep their religion private (only among their own adherents), then I'm in favor of lambasting them to the max. Whenever a religion tries to insinuate its ignorant superstition on society at large, then knock 'em down a peg! If the RCC can't keep its crackpot foolishness to its own members only, then it will suffer the consequences in the public forum. I don't want RCC nonsense to be the law over me, so I agree with nipping it in the bud.
i am Christian and i am apauled at the news... i do not view the Catholics and the Protestants differently, we are all Christians, we believe in Pro-life, heterosexual marraige, all of those that do not believe in the Christian way are not Chriatian in value. Also with the Nazi's if you spoke out the Gestapo took you away... so yes fear ruled their lives...(random fact)
well if the liberals won't separate church from state then may the church should start being involved in the state maybe prolife will finally get through

Whenever the Government extends its tentacles and interfere in things other than law, defence and collecting taxes only results in red tape and suppression. It is not the right of any Government to meddle with individuals and this includes religious organisations.. However, the Catholic Church is one of the most oligarchic elitist organisations there is, and the Nazis where very much in toe with the Catholic Church in Rome.
Many Priests were members of the Catholic "USTACHI" killer squads. I want to make it clear that I make a distinction between the good people who practise Catholicism and the heads of the Catholic Church in the Vatican. I sure that many Catholics, especially in English speaking countries, would be appalled to hear that their Church supported Hitler. show how disceptive the Vatican is.
hmm...ok and as i said before, what proof do u have of this? are u just randomly making this up? where can i go to see documentation of your claims of priests who were members of killing squads. along with the heads of the Vatican that were nazi supporters. proof please...?
Considering that the Catholic Church took in thousands of Jews I think you are sorely mistaken. You obviously don't know your history or about religions.
The largest non-Jewish population in the concentration camps was Catholics. They had whole sections for Catholic priests whom they mistreated viciously.
funny how u talk about misleading comments. because according to your logic - the Vatican also must have supported the tens-of-thousands of Polish Catholics who died during the occupation.
I wonder why those legislators are so concerned with the Catholic Church's finances. It does not directly impact America. This seems to me a private area in which the government ought not interfere.
Exactly. And looks who's head of the treasury- Tim Geitner- TAX CHEAT. Why don't we have a board to monitor his handling of the treasury, considering his financial dishonesty?
Wow, I always thought the Democrats were the first to mention the supposed "seperation of Church and State." Sounds like this would do the opposite...
Thank you for speaking truth!

Someone ought to tell this man that HItler was a Roman Catholic...... and so was Heinrick Himmler. Oh yea, on so was Franz von Papen. Almost forgot to mention this as well but in 1933 the German Nazi administration signed a Concordat, a contract with the Vatican, with future pope cardinal Eugenio Pacelli.
PropagandaBuster 2 years ago
The Roman Catholic Church opposes the Iraq War. What is your position on the Iraq War? The Roman Catholic Church opposes the death penalty. What is your position on the death penalty? The Roman Catholic Church supports justice Latino immigrants. What is your position on immigration, and is it different from the Roman Catholic Church? The Roman Catholic Church tend to support economic justice and living wage campaigns which is pro trade unions. What do you stand on that issue as well?
PsychoPunk1965 2 years ago
You fail to look at the one important difference between abortion and all those issues you reference in your comment. That difference being the taking of a human life via abortion is the taking of an innocent life. While the issues you mention the innocence can be debated rightly or wrongly. Whereas the innocence of the unborn is not debatable. It is in that un-debatable innocence which separates the issue of abortion from all others.
PropagandaBuster 2 years ago
There are all kinds of life issues out there. If the Pope is infallible, you should be consistent with regard to all life issues: be in abortion, the death penalty, war, immigration, living wage campaigns, etc...
PsychoPunk1965 2 years ago
Once again, the difference is the "innocence" issue.
PropagandaBuster 2 years ago
Doesn't matter. You can't cherry pick theology. If the Pope is infallible, then he is infallible.
PsychoPunk1965 2 years ago
What does the Pope being infallible have to do with the protection of innocent human life?

For starters, everything. What about innocents on death rows? Some of them are innocent, and that's good enough reason to try to end the death penalty. I am not a Roman Catholic, but I am an Anglo Catholic. Capital punishment is anti-life and perpetuate violence...

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. This law is designed to protect the interests of parishiners who are tired of seeing the money they give go to pay off lawsuits that the church keeps the parishiners in the dark about.
By the way I am Roman Catholic and live in CT...

so what you're saying is this law (which violates the constitution) is designed to protect the interests of parishoners? would there be equal outrage if CT tried to pass a law which dictated how muslims could organize in their mosques? or jews could appropriate funds in their synagogues ?

I'd have no problem with that. Its a financial issue pure and simple. The bill was designed for Catholics to have more of say in their parishes. The Church simply doesn't want to open up its books to its parishiners...

If they don't like the way their church is run then they need to change it within the church not go running to the gov. to change it for them.

Keep religion private. If they refuse to keep their religion private (only among their own adherents), then I'm in favor of lambasting them to the max. Whenever a religion tries to insinuate its ignorant superstition on society at large, then knock 'em down a peg! If the RCC can't keep its crackpot foolishness to its own members only, then it will suffer the consequences in the public forum. but the catholic church has a tax exempt status, yet if you cannot check that this money is going to charity why should they be allowed to keep this?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Whenever the Government extends its tentacles and interfere in things other than law, defence and collecting taxes only results in red tape and suppression. It is not the right of any Government to meddle with individuals and this includes religious organisations.. However, the Catholic Church is one of the most oligarchic elitist organisations there is, and the Nazis where very much in toe with the Catholic Church in Rome.

" and the Nazis where very much in toe with the Catholic Church in Rome "
what proof and/or evidence do u have to support such claims.

You are an idiot, MewHamHead. And a _very_ ill-informed one, at that.

Someone asked for evidence and I gave a little for him to investigate. I know the truth can be offensive but that doesn't make it any less true.

Considering that the Catholic Church took in thousands of Jews I think you are sorely mistaken. You obviously don't know your history or about religions.
redratfish 2 years ago 3
The largest non-Jewish population in the concentration camps was Catholics. They had whole sections for Catholic priests whom they mistreated viciously.
cardman77777 2 years ago
thats wierd, because i've seen pictures of the pope blessing the nazi army with hitler standing next to him.
unwashablebrain 2 years ago
No- one went to the concentration camps just for being catholic. You comment is somewhat misleading.
MewHamHead 2 years ago
funny how u talk about misleading comments. because according to your logic - the Vatican also must have supported the tens-of-thousands of Polish Catholics who died during the occupation.

I wonder why those legislators are so concerned with the Catholic Church's finances. It does not directly impact America. This seems to me a private area in which the government ought not interfere.

so if a democrat politician takes a million dollars.....can we make a board of the people to manage our taxdollars?......we must stop them now.
elbrookman 2 years ago 2
Exactly. And looks who's head of the treasury- Tim Geitner- TAX CHEAT. Why don't we have a board to monitor his handling of the treasury, considering his financial dishonesty?

What is your response to Bush's faith-based councils (Obama has also spoken of these)?
There you have it. You are calling Democrats and Obama Marxists, as you denied in one of our earlier repartees.
dtothediesel 2 years ago
Wow, I always thought the Democrats were the first to mention the supposed "seperation of Church and State." Sounds like this would do the opposite...
