why blow up the duck?
I do believe the chinese would sew up the rear end of the duck, and use a bamboo straw to blow up the duck.
This way, the duck stayed inflated.
Then they would dip the duck in boiling water and baste it to tighten up the skin.
After that, the duck is hung up (prefereably in a large refrigerator) for a day or so to dry.

Sorry I was changing the oil in the car while waiting for the duck to dry. Rest assured I did not get any duck fat on the car.
