  • Question, How come everyone has those decks? Everyone I see at clubs Uses these?

  • @SuperCanisMajor Thats because Pioneer is very good quality, but also quite expensive.

  • the tiger is a hero :D

  • nice

  • Time for Recess

  • I like the layout you have for your setup! Im about to buy a third 1000 and will likely end up using a stepped up and back shelving style layout at that point. Great video sir

  • why you make it look so easy?

  • Man its hard for me to pracc beatmatching :D Cause i know the bpm when i select the song in my traktor... and i know how much i need to increase the bpm in my cdj :/ I try not to look at the bpm but its just there straight in front of your eyes :P

  • @Ex0rz BPM counters are useful, but cannot always be trusted. Lets say for instance with a Drum & Bass track, certain parts of the beat (mostly high hats but can sometimes be other things) has an intricate arrangement; Sometimes the BPM counter may give you a reading that is 1 BPM off either side of what it should be...so 176 instead of 177.... always go by using your ears first then use the BPM counters to help you fine tune it whilst using your ears aswell ;)

  • What's wrong with seeing the bpm, putting the pitch of the second track right and then drop the second one in, on the right time, without using the sync button ?

  • HAha i'll try then next time.

  • Correct! Found this technique by accident while doing it the harder , the badder way on my Stantons. I don't know why it took me two months of playing to find it. Still need to practice more currectly it takes me few seconds till 2 minutes (matter of luck) to match the tunes correctly. But yeah, i use this very often on vinyl and Cds.

  • I know I'm still a Dummie and just getting started... what is used as tinge in modern djing? Are there ways to use mp3s, do djs still use vynils, wand what abou cds? In this videos vynil, and mp3 is used right?

  • YEKE YEKE :D

  • lovely equipment !

  • sorry but what for we use the gray circular thing on the top left of TT ? can anyone explain this ?

  • @retrotape99

It's a 7" adapter. It's used for the older 7" vinyls. They aren't worth much, so don't worry about it (unless you have 7" singles lying around somewhere)

  • @retrotape99

    it's a puck for 7'' vinyl

  • Make it look so easy......

  • cant u just sync it in virtual dj?

  • @MaxispinDj Thats not real djing , tiger wouldnt appreciate that .

  • Duhhh !!!

  • Duhhh ??!

  • ELLASKINS!!!

  • I dont get it. isnt this how everyone beat matches? Why would this not be on page 1 of djing for dummies?

  • @kingbob182 its not how evry1 beatmatches. most ppl start with pitch on 0 and listen 2 see wether its faster or slower, and move the pitch accordingly

  • @MrP00sy ah, k. I just read my comment and it sounds like I'm being a dick. But I was just confused because the only decks Ive had have the bpm on screen.

    But thanks for explaining that

  • how can you tell when the song that started faster didn't end up being the slower one if you went too far? that's the problem i have (i can't tell which direction to adjust toward).

  • wher do you buy vinyl?

  • pointless.

  • yeke yeke

  • You still need to have an ear for it or it won't help you.

  • check out ma first eva song youtube.com/watch?v=kNvdUetf7q8

  • haha luvvin tigger

  • You sound like Kipkay :D

  • Osobiście trochę inaczej dostosowuję tempo... To trochę trudna metoda.

    Ale film oczywiście na plus:)

  • It is totally techno fucking cheating MAN.

  • Nice tip dude. Imma try that with some DJ friendy toons i got. currently i suck at tempo matching.

  • 0.8 for every bmp between 121-130 or track1-track2/track2*100 and you find the pitch deferrence............

  • Whats he doing when he is pulling the platter back from 3:37 - 3:54 ?

I've seen lots of dj's pushing the platter forward and pulling it backwards but dont really know what their doing ?

  • @DjRossyDee hes skipping through the track manually, this is usually done to find the first bass beat or whatever you want to cue off of. you haven't got to play it from the edge all the time!

  • Ok question, so this works for when you are mixing your 1st record with the 2nd. What about next one? U have adjusted the pitch control to match the 1st record so now the 2nd record is playing at lets say 3%. Do you need to take 2nd record back to 0 to start matching the 3rd record?

  • Thanks for the advice. This will help me a LOT!

  • Sorry this isnt to do with beatmatching, but as you stay in glasgow can you tell me somewhere to get my turntables serviced and repaired that is reliable? I definately dont want to buy new turntables as i love the ones i have. i am so used to them and they feel great. Also alot of the new turntables now look tacky, thanks

  • DJ's just switch songs right? cause i wanna be a techno DJ like tiesto when I'm out of high school lol

  • @BlinginTom aha. bud theres more to it than "switching songs" thats the basic sayin i guess you could say but a real dj is well rounded, ie scratching, beatmatching, song selection (key, tempo, pitch, vocals, etc)

    Its an art really.

Its easy to learn the basics will probably take you a month or two.

But to actually master the art is rarely achieved.

  • @BlakeC94 damn

  • @BlinginTom if ya really want to get into it. message me ill help you out.

  • im confused do you need records and cd's of can you do it with a laptop?

  • @extrudatinoal its possible to use vinyl, cds or mp3s to mix or any combination. mix theory is still the same. for laptop u would need a controller, or you can just press sync so u don't have to beat match.

  • @fdlbeats ok thanks ;D

  • @extrudatinoal you dont need records or cd's. would be a wise idea to grab some decks and mixer then use the mp3's on your laptop. even though you dont necessarily need them, its good to learn. you can get a program called serato scratch live. great interface.

  • I just picked up cdj 900s and I'm going to try this way without headphones for a couple of months very good video

  • Mixing without headphones is also good way of learning how to mix fast

  • @BestivalFan Thats definately the way to do it if you ask me!

  • I LEARNED SMTHN TODAY

  • good job baba

  • what is beatmatching?

  • @MatrixOfDynamism

beatmatching is getting track (for sample) A to have the same bpm(Beats per minut) as track B

that way you can mix the intro's of tracks better in the outro and its sounds kickass aswell

  • on a Pacemaker you can do all this with one button

  • hm lol i remember when i first watched this over 2 years ago and beleave it or not it worked like a charm until i mastered the art alough im still not perfect, thanks man, helped alot, ps yekke yekke is a beltin classic

  • if your beatmatching two tracks and you need a lower pitch to mix the next track , do you bring it back to zero after its mixed or would you normally just leave it cause youll hear the pitch go back up???

  • @ger101ger101 - you leave the pitch where you needed to put it to match the beats. Otherwise, as you suggest, you'll hear the pitch of the music go up. Even if you've got a Master Tempo control, you'll still make the music play faster if you return to 0 - and if you've found a tempo that people are in the groove with - you don't want to speed it up randomly.

  • @DJRecess I have a question say you want to mix a very particular part of a track into your set but when you'r moving the platter your going to different parts of the tracks.. so what is it you do to mix a particular part of a track in besides setting a loop ?

  • @DJRecess I have a similar question as ger101ger101 - you answered, you leave the pitch as it was needed to mix both tracks. But, if a higher pitch is needed, after mixing to the next track, wouldn't it sound a bit "squeaky" ?

  • Tigger says: "NO CHEATING. Do it by ear"

  • @fur8ar - he's a hard task master. That's why I keep him around.

  • @fur8ar That's what my teacher sais aswell

  • @fur8ar hahahaha!!!!! TIGGER SAYS "NO SYNC BUTTON EITHER"

  • what a load of crap!

  • is 23rd precinct still open? and can you try out the gear b4 u buy or is it just a record shop?

  • @DJNardini - I'm not sure. There's a sign on the door saying it's moved - but I can't seem to find where too! There's a store down St. Enoch direction called Rub-a-Dub that'll probably sort you out though.

  • you should make a video of how you dj..

  • you sound like my music teacher, hes a fuck but im sure your way cooler than him hahaha

  • where did you get the tigger?... lol.. just kiddin.. amazing videos.. greetings from acapulco!

  • if you want to mix 2 songs do you need to buy the records or is ther turntables that use cd's??

  • @MCDEVVOMAN - If you'd rather use CD's than turntables, that's fine. You're looking for DJ CD decks if you want to use CD's. The unit I use in this video that isn't a turntable (the one up high) is a DJ CD deck. You don't need to get such an expensive one - there's loads out there. Just take a look at your local DJ equipment store for what they sell, and what budget you have, and take it from there.

  • @MCDEVVOMAN you can also buy hybrid turntables. they are fun

  • thums up if u hate people who ask 4 thums up

  • wow, i randomly searched beamatching after reading dj for dummies and this came up! will there be a new/updated version as not many people spin vinyl or cd nowadays? Also i have a question; what is the minimum quality you should play? i've noticed some cd's i have are 260kbps which isn't great(although they're bought from hmv etc.) and i have some flac and wav that are 1411kbps so what is the lowest quality that won't sound bad at high volume in a club? thank you, you've been a great help.

  • I love your book man, keep it up!

  • that was insanly quick!!!1

  • This is a great tip for new djs, thanks man

  • Lmao" heres tigger"

  • change the video title to something that will attract more people its a really good video well taught

  • @xxrobbyy same with vestax spin, i do the auto sync but i want to try to actually beatmatch without doing it the easyway

  • This helps so much thx man

  • I am pretty pro at DJing but i'm just wondering have you guys met that song that does not beat match to anything?????????

  • he sounds a little bit like kipkay xD

Does it work in every song? thx

  • What equipment is needed to start a DJing business?

  • very useful vidoe 10x alot

  • That Video really helped me...thank you!

  • THIS WASNT MENTIONED IN THE BOOK!!

The book got me through a rough-rough year man, you got me into this shiz, now im luckily enough doing it on a regular basis and making a name(well..-ish)

    Thank you mate!

  • Wich one remix of YEKE YEKE is there? Is it hardfloor remix? dub? or what the fuck? ;S Cant recognize.

  • thanks for the tip, i changed it into making the tune slower and then turning the vinyl with my finger and adjusting the speed because my turntable have a really bad torque and tend to stop quickly when i put my finger on the platter

  • i can do these all in the virtual dh

  • you're setup is toooo nice.

loving the 1210's levelled into the desk. madness

  • Here is a german Tutorial about Beatmatching for Beginners:

    manusblog. de/manusblog/?p=555

By the way, check my tenminmix ;)

    Cheers!

  • is this the same as mixing with the vitual dj program in the computer?

  • Good tip for beginners.

  • lol andy perry is a sick skier

  • do you where i can get drum loop for mixing at?

  • awesome dude.... when i got my decks years ago i had no internet and nobody to teach me how to get the beats.... and this was the way i learned myself.... i dont use this technique anymore but id well recommend it to beginners as its just a matter of slowly slowing it down untill you find the perfect speed... good video man glad to see this technique up here :)

  • awesome tip, never heard of it before now....Thanks

  • I've been Djing for 15 year and thought I've seen it all......I've never heard of starting with the pitch all the way up. Very wierd.

  • its how i learned... though i was one of few who used this technique, its good for beginners :) then when there ears are trained they can use better methods

  • @DJCKBaltimore He set it at a 10% maximum so its kind of a guess and check technique for 2 tunes with a similar tempo

  • dude where did u get ur table the one that holds ur kit in it.

    its sick

  • I built it myself. It's just standard wall brackets with a bunch of contiboard built and cut into the unit. I keep meaning to post photos onto my website for a 'how-to' - I'll sort that and get in touch. Glad you like it.

  • thanks, i rlly love it and i am glad that ppl still make things i am currently building a guitar and a bed mby this will b my nxt project

  • @DJRecess cant we buy it at all?

  • @OTTFM - hey OFFTM what you looking to buy? If it's the desk, I'm afraid it's something you'll have to build yourself, sorry.

  • @jpmma95 u can buy them on ebay

  • @danny1566 whats the link?

  • @jpmma95 search for dj desks

  • @jpmma95 u can get sum if u lookin 4 dj station tables or mixstations ins google i have my own designed one YM. CM.

  • Another tip if your using the 1000's make sure you have master tempo on so if your beat starts to wonder off it doesnt make that woooooop noice when you speeding the track up to get it back to sync.....Nice Vid 2

  • Well another thing u can consider is that House tracks usually run from 125 to 130 so thats a verry small margin.

Also using just your plain old ears works.

I can beet match without having to do all that in a matter of seconds.

Sheesh ive never seen a DJ take the pitch all the way like that.

If your going to teech do it right!!

  • nothing says this is wrong really i mean its not very practical i'll give you that but he gets it done in good time i'd say. Problem is it takes an acute ear to be able to match it without any tricks but for beginners this would most likely help.

  • ye dude you can get beats matched in seconds after how many years of practice?? well wouldnt take years but the piont is that this technique is good for beginners as there ears arent as well trained as experienced djs.... the reason this is good for beginners is because its just a matter of bringing back slowly untill they get it near right :) plus this is dead easy to understand ....

  • why was he using the same tune on both turntables

  • @benjiyid - I wasn't. In this video, 'Secretly' was always playing on the CD deck - the first time round I mixed in 'Sacred' from the Turntable, and the second time round, I mixed into 'Yeke Yeke' on the turntable.

Or have I mis-understood your question?

  • @DJRecess sorry mate i must of been pissed when i wrote that . lol

  • nice setup!

  • Goddamn, it's a lot harder to do it virtually .... I mean I just wish I could feel the disk spinning ! (Only using Traktor for now)

  • @TranceFawEver goes back to your cue point !

  • lmao the tigger on dah turntanble

  • this really works!! thanks allot !!!!

  • Pleaure to help.

  • he don't understanding about dj's thing!!!

  • this is very helpful. I DJ myself and has my trial and errors like most DJs do. you should consider doing a DJ version of Top gear. haha. anyways, thanks

  • That would be a short programme... still it hasn't stopped me pitching a DJ program to every director I work with...

  • I wish I could afford a pair of 1000's .. ~sigh~ all I got is a CDMP-6000 lol

  • Sad thing is, I hardly use the 1000's since going digital. Just 1210's and traktor... I'm in heaven.

The 6000 isn't that bad though - there's a lot worse out there, and not that many all in one units kick it's backside.

  • what made you go for traktor over serato?

im considering a dcs ans not sure which one to get?

  • Functionality. I liked that I could get four decks and built in effects with Traktor, and preferred the output of the Audio 8 hardware.

Since I got it, Serato has improved, and I'm intrigued as to what 'The Bridge' can do with Serato sets, but I think I'd still go for Traktor if I was picking right now.

Serato can be found a bit more than Traktor when it comes to what clubs have 'hard-wired' into their booths, but more clubs don't have ANY install anyway, so I don't let that worry me.

  • never seen this thank you very mutch its very helpfull

  • Right i can beatmatch but i cant do it as fast as you yet. Though some songs i can do quicker than others. It just goes to show there are djs who use the platter in conjunction with the pitch slider and those who don't touch the platter. It works both ways. all down to preference. Any tips on how to do it quicker. it takes me about a minute to get them in sync but i can do quicker with certain tracks. cheers!!

  • I'm sorry to say it's all down to practise, experience and knowing your tunes well. When you've spent a long time working with your tunes, you get to know the sounds they make as they get closer in time. It sounds a bit hokey - but it really just does come easier as time goes on.

Make sure to concentrate on the beats. Try not to be distracted by the rest of the tune, and have confidence when you think you've got the beats locked. If not, it's just a nudge to get them back in time.

  • Wow. This is great. Great video and great technique.

  • @kixnet - thanks very much, I hope it works for you.

  • if your good enough you will find you never have to touch the platter you only need your pitch for beat mixing

  • Different strokes for different folks I'm afriad. I'm more tactile than the DJs who just use the pitch control. I don't like the thought that I may have found the perfect pitch setting - then lose it by using the pitch control to slow down or speed up the track to get it bang in time with the other.

Just different approaches. I wouldn't say it makes anyone better than the other.

  • sorry bud maybe i came across too cocky, was just saying i never need to touch the plater i find ur in more control with the pitch than when your touching it. Thats all i have alot of friend,s who touch the platter and if they find it easy,er then thats cool just in my opinion youu dont need to.one,s your in beat u hardly need to touch the pitch again just alittle here and there. i no alot of people mess up more when they touch the deck. but hey man if it work,s for u mate then who am i tojudge

  • i would really like your help

i want to know how you get the sound...

    the beat

dj's go get it from other musics?

how do you compose? i want to try but i dont get it

  • @bagoh14 If your talking about composing your own tracks have a read about music programs; Reason, Logix and FL Studio.

  • Since DJ's are DJ's and not always producers they use all kinds of music and sound they like to use, but as they mix they create their own sounds/beats from the music and sounds they are using. But many deejays are also producers who creates tracks, vocals and other sounds and effects to use in their mixes. A good beginner software in producing is FL Studio (Fruity Loops). It works also for professionals. I use it alot.

  • yea yea use the pitch mover thing and they "should" fit together, doesn't always work though, what do you do when the two beats are too different in rhythmic properties to do this? most of my vinal so far other than scan darker and the old school pack do this, and I have no way to link them together because they are just too different.

    answer = buy more?

  • if the rythmic properties dont coincide then find the breaks of the tracks and jump across them not the choruses, use the EQ set CF slope loose, scratch for filler and fade along the end of a measure. Matching the bpm of 2 similar styled songs and fading between really isnt that hard if you know what it is your doing

    \

  • Nice vid, hopefully this will help me out, cheers

  • the thing is if u don't know if the next tune is faster or slower, u need to prelisten it on ur hp anyway to get it matched before u drop it in - what's the point in settin' the pitch so high, if u still can speed the record or cd up aswell to get it on beat...

  • My old set up was sunk into the cabinet like that covered in blue velvet. awesome

  • u make it look waaay to easy... I was there for hours haha

  • so you did get it though? hope so. it always looks easy when you to back in time. once you figure it out it's no problem.

  • @djdevelope1 hey i need your help dj stuff

  • shoot me an email

  • or you could just do it the right way....

  • Yup, like I said - it's a quick fix way to get there, but it's just that - a quick fix, not method I'd suggest as your main way of beatmatching.

Thanks for checking it out though.

  • right ^^

  • what do you mean?

  • for Dummies :o !

  • im a beginner in djing and was thinking of getting the idj2 with my ipod. is it worth it? and what other equipments do i need to get with it?

  • good vid i want to start djing but all i can afford is homemix home dj twin mixer with cdg are they any good or am i wasting my time with d cheap mixers

  • 'Waste of time' is a bit harsh, but not far off. Not sure what one it is you're looking at, but often, one of the first problems is that you don't get EQ's for both CD's, just the entire mixer output.

But he main problem is simply future proofing. The CD decks are basic, the mixer is basic - but as it's an all in one unit, you won't be able to upgrade just one of them, you'll have to upgrade it all, then bin it.

Bit of a waste of money if you ask me, unless you'll be happy with it forever.

  • thanks for the tip DJRecess

  • thanks for a great tip will test it out when i get my gear back!

  • you have no idea how much this has helped me over a period of one night. Thanks!

  • LOL u make it look so eazy

  • hola lo puedes poner en español gracias

  • im thinking of DJing is it HARD to learn?

  • Thinking of it too.

Theres a lot involved but you could practice with virtual DJ.

What's interesting is the groves on the record, it makes it easy to locate key places in the song.

  • where can i get that?

  • nah not relly jus get speed right

    and let off on downbeat

  • if you have the time and money go for it.

you should go to some dj forums and ask around there. they'll give great tips and also how to get started.

practice and enjoy, that's the best advice imo.

  • not really jus know your equipment start with some simple equipment thats not complicated... and play around with it mix some songs and match beats jus like in this video

  • not hard to learn :) just need to enjoy it and be creative... its constant learning
