He lasted until the last battle besides this movie is very un Hollywood it has an un happy ending and I think he only killed one enemy that I noticed in the whole movie.I thought the medic guy was pretty cool and so was warrant officer Pogrebnyak(the bald guy) but they died as well.

The Greeks not only conquered Afghanistan they even established their own country there.
Here they can hit 50cm targets at 100 meters. But later in the movie can't hit 2 meter high targets at 20 meters. The Sniper guy can hit a 2cm kopeyka coin but can't hit an enemy from a shorter distance later in the movie.

After the Iranian Islamic Revolution the fear of a Muslim revolt grew and the Soviet Government strengthened an already present Soviet "Advisor" force in December 1979 with full Mechanized units, which overthrew the Afghan dictator and installed his cabinet members in power.

this is moot, India was one of the few countries to not condemn the Soviets in Afghanistan. I know the Soviets committed atrocities etc. but in all honesty when it was a socialist state women were flying jets and working, if the Soviets won there would have been a liberal and modern society there, not the bloody Talibs. That is why India empathized with the Soviets, and it wasn't totally wrong to do so.

A factual inaccuracy in the first portion of the clip. I don't belive that afganistan was never conquered. Alexander and his general Selucus, the mongols and the Indian mughals are just among a few that ruled afganistan. So yes, they have been under foriegn rule.

No sereusly. NOONE have ever conquered Afghanistan. There have been several wars over long time in Afghanistan / Pushtonistan. But noone ever conquered it. And now Americans is loosing there to :) Every day 1-3 hellikopters is getting shout down by mujjahede who are ussing stingers which usa sold to them back at 80s XD

Not true:) You can look it up yourself if you want. The Pushtoons have been conquered as recently as by the british. I belive it was part of British India wherein they drew the controversial durrand to divide and rule.

After Babur Afganistan was ruled by five Indian emperors not to mention the kushans, selucuids, guptas, mauriyas, british and others. I don't know why there is this popular belief that Afgans were never conquered. That said, I do like afgans and hope they can achieve peace and make progress thats been eluding them for so long.

Best seller only means popular among the population it doesn't make it historycally correct. Watch the movie with those family members and ask them if it really was like that. I've read Russian paratrooper feedbacks on this movie and they were very negative.
People are affraid to disagree with this movie because unconciously they are affraid to be thought of as not patriotic. In reality however those who fought in that war say this movie is nothing close to reality.

First time they see a plane is when they fly to Afghanistan, oddly lying like cattle on the metal floor plate. Why does Praporschik Dygala(wearing a blue Airborne beret) repeatedly call them "desantnik"(paratrooper) if they obviously are not? In the wash bin scene he asks "what is a paratrooper"? True "desant" also applies to Russian Marines, but they are nowhere near water and the "Morskaya Pehota" wear black berets.

This movie was about the 345th Independent Parachute Regiment. It was formed by the Soviet government to fight in Afghanistan. The title "parachute" implies they be trained with parachutes, am I not correct? In this movie they never even SEE a parachute! What kind of Parachute Regiment spends most of their time molding a "chelen" out of plastic explosives? They don't even jump out of a helicopter once!

cuz the USSR wanted well educated people, so the school were much better and taught way better. But here in North America they need more people for restaurants and construction. So thats probably the major difference (Cuz if u are well educated i doubt u would randomly want to kill people)
