If this is a movie it's a very realistic movie. Thanks to the young people for their comments. Burning your draft card was a brave thing to do. You could go to jail for a long time if you didn't show up when you were drafted.
If America had not started the war, South Vietnam would have fallen into communism in 1954 and more Vietnamese would have been murdered in cultural revolutions like those launched by Mao in China (20 million deaths) & Khmer Rouge in Cambodia (2 millions)
Total Vietnamese democide by communists: 1,040,000 (1975-87) by HCR.
Ho chi Minh, Vietnam's communist leader, is a disguting TRAITOR & MURDERER! In exchange for chinese military aids in the war with France (1945-1954), he gave up Paracel & Spratly archipelagos with large oil resources to China. He even ordered to murder his own mistress named Nong thi Xuan when she threatened to disclose her sexual relationship with him since that would destroy his image as a "Father" of Vietnam who "sacrifices" his whole life for Vietnam revolution.
Why are people commenting that they would be "right there protesting" and in the same comment asking what it is they are protesting? Instead of just blindly protesting because you "think it's cool" or just have an insane need to be part of a group, why not look into exactly WHAT they are protesting? Also keep in my mind that the protestors were for the most part respectful back then and really believe they could change the course of the war. The mentality is very different now.
lol, i know this is bad timing probably, but the soldier the guy was talking to had some bushy eyebrows! lol, sorry. i just had a moment there...please dont hurt me....want a cookie?
This scene is so awesome! It must have been amazing to be growing up in the 1960's and making a difference in our nation. Wish I would have been part of it all.
Draft eh? Whatever happened to the fifth admenment and liberty of consciense for f*** sakes. Even if the Vietnam War is a justified war, they still have no fucking right to consript people, HELL TO CONSPRIPTION NO MATTER WHAT, my own ass and dick belongs to ME. F*** THEM, and ask them to scrw themselves. Screw Obama for even having the guts to bring this shit up again!!
Of all kinds of laws, i think drafts are the most disgusting, no matter how justified they think the war is. If they[govenment] wana fight, then go and fight themselves, aint my fucking business, i have problems of my own. Ask Nixon and Kissinger to put their own fucking aases on the line and stop drating people into his problems.
What you see tells us who you are... What I see is who I am ... This is the generation that changed the world Revoloution in the streets of America Fighting to stop The Vietnam War Fighting to preserve the planet , clean the air, clean the water... Human Rights Civil Rights Equal Rights Ammendment So what have you done lately??? Easy to criticize what you perceive BUT... Your perception was wrong The World Is A Better Place thanks to a generation that believed in a dream
Hippies most definitely saved us back in the 60's. I firmly believe this. I myself am against war and believe peaceful protest will save us all. Though it may be an old concept to some, it will prevent much pain and suffering in the long run. Love those you encounter and attempt to make a difference by opposing war. Make love, not war!!! :D
why do these film producers even have the nerve to make such filth of a movie as this? this is degrading to the people of the counter-culture. this, mind you,..is just a movie from the perspective of a conformist suburban white boy. ...this is utter disgrace.
No draft - no protest? I bet you're right . But what kind of commentary is that about Americans? If other people go and die and murder, we'll just stay home and watch American Idol! We MUST protest! American public opinion is the greatest power in the world!!!! That's YOU and ME!! If you have children, or want to someday - get up off the couch and DO something!!!! Anything. Mario Savio did. Thank God. Hippies saved lives in Vietnem by protesting. How many could we save if we just tried :)
The generation that changed the world , the generation which shook the very foundation of civilization filled with passion and compassion. The times were filled with causes and people willing to fight for change. How did we lose the passion , how have we become the pawns of government. I miss the 60's and am ashamed of the present. Proud to be a HIPPY of the 60's and today. PEACE
i agree with you 2000% my friend..i am 25 years old but i have spoken with people, including my parents and i have grown to love and learn all aspects of the sixties movements. where are we headed?
ps: check out my myspace page..the song is off by many years.
hey asshole. stop reminiscing 'bout the past. you fall off your bike so get the fuck back on. where are we headed?... to a fuckin graveyard if you keep admiring the past and disregard today. the revolution IS NOW
i think we could protest like this if we're against the war in iraq or certain things to come with our government..but our law enforcement is completly different now than it was in the 60's
if we were against vietnam war and protested it and changed the world then, how come we cant do the same for iraq war?why cant we speak up for world peace anymore?everything theses days are about politics and law and order :(and if we are ...then its too quiet, who's with me?
i am with you 100% my friend..i feel the exact same way. how come we cannot stand in the middle of the street and condemn the war or stand up for our rights as citizens of this country. big brother wants to pump fear in our lives so they can have a hand over our mouths when we even think of fighting back...
beauuuuutiful. about the song, i'm pretty sure it's by the velvet underground... i thiiink the name of it is "it's all tomorrow's party" or somethin' like that...
that was beautiful, when the guy put the flower in the gun i almost cried,i think the whole world needs to see that with the kind of violence that is going on these days.
The sick part is all the sheep who have been bamboozled by the corp media and the likes of Rush into slavenly following them to thier death as mere Cannon Fodder for the PROFITS of a few.... Fools dont realize that we need to FIGHT THE RICH NOT THEIR WARS!!!
The protesters, they are doing the right thing, Why sell your life to somthing like war? as they are saying we are not against the soldiers we are against the war, to do what they did, they are my hero's the army should be a choice and that now seems to be a dieing freedom
You got lots of things to protest right now. The Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the War on Drugs, the Federal Reserve, The IRS, The United Nations, President Bush's War on the Constitution of the United States, just to name a few.
i agree with everything but protesting the iraq and afghanistan war is making the same mistake as the one in viet nam. Don't let our soliders die for nothing...we need to finsih what we started. The army of Iraq is not yet strong enough to fight terrorism on their own.
The 60s generation have become what they spent their lives hating and fighting. They now send the American youth to kill & be killed - shoot & be shot - watch and fear death & act and cause death. You've changed from the people killed at Kent State for fighting for the promises of the declaration of independence, to the national guard soldiers pulling the trigger. I'm so ashamed of those of you who've made this metamorphosis. Who have sold out their beliefs - literally.
America was the bright light of liberty that the rest of the world looked to as a model, as a dream, as hope. Especially after WWII. But now these very people who once had enough heart to fight the unjust now fight unjustly for the almighty dollar. This generation's young people who would fight against tyranny and against the arms build up are the ones who've sent my friends off (I'm 28) to die in a pointless war in the desert.
I don't want to offend anyone here, but it may considering the passion behind such subjects. But it is so extremely sad to me to see the 60s protest generation and what they were to what they've become. You guys stood up for change. You fought for it. Some were willing to die for it. You saw a flawed system and you said "it doesn't have to be this way. I can change it." But now? This is the generation f**king up our nation and all it stands for. The world doesn't see us as the light of liberty.
so good to see this again. today's gen has no freedom as we did in the day. the govt "leaders" of today, were young and in secret branches of govt back then. yes, they have a rage against the ability to LOVE not hate, to be natural, enjoy a life that has nothing to do with fortunes or egotism. pity their offspring. late 1950's, Pres Eisenhower warned of the military industrial complex, and the take over from within our own government.
the only real cause for dying, is because the love you can have to someone...in vietnam the only thing that was demonstrated is how stupid, violent, and brainless the human being can turn sometimes...for all the peace lovers: a big hug to all of u,we have a new war to stop now and it is Iraq´s...hope u all continue acting for living in a better world...peace...
How is that as we risked our life on the streets of America and college campuses protesting to Stop The War in Vietnam and to bring our soldiers home safe and out of harms way we are viewed as pinko communists?? We have heard so many times that the soldiers were never thanked for their service in the war , is it wrong that I feel we were never thanked for demonstrating against the war? Is it wrong that our anti-war movement was never appreciated by those we fought to save??
To all those that opposed Vietnam and oppose the war in Iraq. I admire your courage in speaking out against a government that wants to enslave men and women with forced military service in unjust wars.
genxdude1991 I am so glad to hear your comment. Sadly a lot of people of your age group (or early twenties) can be real warmongers who support the war in Iraq and Vietnam. I am 44 and I can definitely tell you that in my time most of our generation (and the one previous) were pacifists and against all the government bullshit. It was a mini-series that aired on NBC in 1999. I remember cause I made sure I was home to watch each chapter. NBC marketed it pretty well with ads. There was another one the following year called 'The 70's', but wasn't as good.

It was a mini-series that aired on NBC in 1999. I remember cause I made sure I was home to watch each chapter. NBC marketed it pretty well with ads. There was another one the following year called 'The 70's', but wasn't as good.
