It doesn't matter where you are. The Secret Service has to constantly ratchet up their protective measures. And, no, it is by no means "easy" to try to harm the U.S. President. Perhaps in your country, they don't provide adequate protection for your leader.

We've not had anybody killed or injured. The security is very discreet and dignified, almost unnoticeable. In fact our PM has even given up the car and outriders and walks to work. Our mayor cycles or takes public transport.

Fact is Obama takes that security to countries like UK where its not nessecary. And you're paying for it!

A motorcycle with a sidecar can still get through traffic better than a car. The officers are also easier seeen when trying to control traffic. We have a fleet of Police bikes used for escorting funerals in Denver, CO and use the sidecars the same way.

The Queen retains powers to dissolve government, which she has done in Canada + Australia, @ times of constitutional crisis. Also, Monarchy in the UK is more democratic than is obvious. An elected president would be party political and likely wouldn't create any opposition to the elected government; so then state, in effect, could be totalitarian.
