I don't see really the problem with that some people like Hanako, Lilly or Rin more the others. Katawa Shoujo gave you a choice of routes, not pushing you to take a route you didn't won't to take. I did Hanako first because I really like her character and story. The story could have been longer, but still it gave me a good story of Hanako. I pick Hanako as a personal favorite character in Katawa Shoujo, everyone who have played the game has their own favorite character. I love Hanako smiling :-)

I love "playing" these types of games that let you "choose" your own route based on how you feel; that said, I ended up with Emi as my first. In retrospect, she gave me the most feels. I loved Shizune's route, but I think it was mainly Misha's charisma/drama that drove it home for me. I think my favorite is Lilly, that story was so d'aww ;_;. As for Rin, I get her appeal, but her path felt too isolated, couldn't get myself into it. Hanako... I got her bad end FIRST which ruined her story for me.

 H > E > L > R > S. Rin is a fantastic character. But I just didn't get the same feels I got with the other characters. And Shizune just lacked any real romance. Though Misha is great.

I've done Shizune, (ah, not so touching, but most fun. I loved her route.) Emi, (Ah.. Inspirational. Nice.) and I'm doing Rin right now... (Rin~! I can relate!!)

I'll do either Lilly or Hanako.. Which should I do first?

I'd suggest Lilly. After doing Hanako's route, I felt both satisfied, and sorrowful at the same time. Hanako had found love... But the hardships she had to brave to get there were bad. Lilly... Her route is more tame. After I did Rin's route, I felt emotionally drained. I can relate with being weird and distant from everyone, but HER EMOTIONS ARE HARD AS HELL TO READ. *Stressedface.jpg*

@BDbiogamer well, considering the fact that her story arch wasn't all that great, her personality (which I really dislike even in IRL) and pairing up with obnoxious Misha didn't help much. And I'll just leave here my list of favorites in order:

I felt like I could really relate to Lilly and Emi tho, so their routes were more or less a tear fest for me (including Hanako, near the end of the route).

@axelrudipel Yeah, I kinda have to agree with you on your favorites. Hanako's story falls victim to being slightly slow and uneventful, but also painfully short, and with an abrupt ending. It was fantastic while it lasted, but Emi and Lilly's stories are just paced better. Rin's story and personality are boring and irritating for the most part in how boring and uneventful they are, although her endings are done really well. I'd still put shizune above her though, because it stays interesting

@BDbiogamer Well, their just opinions, but I really think that Shizune was just annoying, up until the last act which wasn't enough for me, Rin was better and I liked her story, but Emi and Lilly were really the ones I could relate to because I had relationships that were almost exactly like those two (although in my case, it was a good ending, followed by a breakup because of our going away to uni and a neutral ending for the later). I really liked Hanako, tears were shed too.

Just finished Hanako's story, and just like many other people, I can't find myself to even continue another route anymore. Hanako's route was just absolutely beautiful. The pacing, the emotions; everything was just so realistic and it was heartwarming to see them grow as the story went by. Out of every single route of any VN game I've played, this is now my absolute favorite.

@MagusFyre You can try Yume miru kusuri. I've only done 1 route, Aeka her route, which was mainly about the heroine being bullied. The story is really touching. Yume miru kusuri was my first VN and I think it's 1 of the best.

My first playthrough I went with Rin, seeing as how at the point where I was, it was either her or kenji's. Figured why not. So as I played her route, I started to realize how emotionally driven this game was. "What the fuck am I getting myself into?"

Second playthrough went with Emi, she was the most fun it seemed. Didn't think I would like any other character as much as her.....until I played Lilly's route, her route made me fucking cry. For at least ten minutes. Now I'm scared to play Hanako.

I got Emi's Good ending on my cold first time through the game, now I'm having trouble playing through again and ignoring her. I don't think I will be doing the bad endings on purpose, but I'm working on Shizune next, and Hanako will have to be last, since I've heard a lot of people say that her's might be the best.

Congrats to 4LS for creating a game that drug this old VN fan out of retirement and gave him the feels like few games (or any media for that matter) have ever done.
