They evolved from thrash to heavy metal, I love thrash just as much as the next guy, but Metallica re invented Metal. With Dave, they wouldn't have been able to have established the sound they have from 88 and up. Kill em all&Ride the lightning were fucking amazing, don't get me wrong.
@bubbamikeDP I'd say they reinvented Metal just with their look and down-to-earth, street-y attitude. But I agree that Metallica is now more of a straight Heavy Metal band than a Thrash Metal band. Though Death Magnetic was pretty damn thrashy.

I love and hate Metallica why? Because I like 80s Metallica...Modern Metallica is just shit. Deal with it. Even Megadave were able to do a more consistent path.
If I want to listen to real good fast/aggressive thrash metal, I'll listen to that, if not well I'll just listen to something else. But I simply cannot love what they have done in the past few years since it was basically a way to suck money out of their fans by not staying true to their roots. I wanna listen to Metallica, I expect good thrash, give me something else and I'll just spit on it and skip!
@skolnick14 I just played both versions side by side. Mustaine's solo sucks here. Sorry! It's clean to a point, but doesn't have good structure like Kirk Hammet's solo does.
@Valagnar music is subjective. opinions are what matters. the only thing that can truly be measured in music is technique, theory, speed, tone,rhythm,and complexity. you cant prove something sounds or fits better. its subjective. technique and speed can be measured and daves is superior in that aspect.

@cyco0971 If Dave wasn't kicked out of Metallica, there would be no 'and justice for all...' and up... When they got kirk, they established themselves, especially on the black album. They evolved from thrash to heavy metal, I love thrash just as much as the next guy, but Metallica re invented Metal. With Dave, they wouldn't have been able to have established the sound they have from 88 and up. Kill em all&Ride the lightning were fucking amazing, don't get me wrong.

@bubbamikeDP I'd say they reinvented Metal just with their look and down-to-earth, street-y attitude. But I agree that Metallica is now more of a straight Heavy Metal band than a Thrash Metal band. Though Death Magnetic was pretty damn thrashy.

But I simply cannot love what they have done in the past few years since it was basically a way to suck money out of their fans by not staying true to their roots. @skolnick14 I just played both versions side by side. Mustaine's solo sucks here. Sorry! It's clean to a point, but doesn't have good structure like Kirk Hammet's solo does.

@Valagnar music is subjective. opinions are what matters. the only thing that can truly be measured in music is technique, theory, speed, tone,rhythm,and complexity. you cant prove something sounds or fits better. its subjective. technique and speed can be measured and daves is superior in that aspect.
