I was going to complain about how much this sucked before I read the satire part.
But you definately can disarm a person. If its a point weapon, all you have to do is get inside, and as long as you have been trained properly, the person is better off disarming themself than holding onto their sword.
@sterlingsilverf Yup, that was the intention of the vid ;) Sure, it is possible to disarm even an edged weapon. I just think that so much depends on chance, timing and so on that it's not justified to focus on teaching "disarming" techniques like in some martial arts
In the medieval fencing there are many tecniques for disarm from many kind of weapons, but all of this tecniques are with an armour weared (full armor) and not with "posta longa" (the right arm that try the approach with the sword hahah)
nonsense, its easier ot disarm a sword than a knife, especially if you are really accustomed to swords, i have a few times (its not common and its not easy, but im not a master of any kind) grabbed a sword by the flat with my fingertips and redirected it mid swing without the blade touching me. in addition if you arent scared of it a sword isnt actually all that dangerous. obviously its very dangerous, but if you get in close a sword is pointless, if anything a downside and distraction
doesnt make much of a difference really. beacause you grab a double sided and single sided almost the same way, you arent touching the edges, and a single sided sword is ussually sharper, because it has a larger area t thin out over and is often curved. grabbing blades is common practice in european martial arts
with respect, i don't see how this proves your point. A smallsword would what - give you a pinprick and then you could close range. Most rapier and smallsword duels took approx 5-12 thrusts to incapacitate an opponent. One 'ouch' and your opponent is in your face, p***ed, and it falls to an unarmed fight. You'd have to land a thrust to the face or throat to stop them. Furthermore, facing a weapon slower than a smallsword it is quite possible to disarm an opponent - difficult but possible.
I beg to differ. A smallsword is able to pierce through a human torso without much effort. Having 10cm of blade piercing your forearm is just anything but a pinprick. A 1cm wide hole in your palm is also - anything but a pinprick. Your statement about 5-12 thrusts is completely false. It takes just one placed hit to kill one's opponent, be it with a smallsword or a rapier and it doesn't even take much skill to do it. Fighting after recieving 5 thrusts is something very rare, not mentioning
having recieved 12 thrusts. Most duels ended after 1 or 2 hits. It's definitely not an 'ouch', it's rather an "OMFG!". Even the foil used in olympic fencing can be quite painful and we're not even calling it a weapon. A sharp olympic foil could run a person through. Besides no fencer would have an unarmed opponent in his face after a hit. There is this small thing called footwork and distance. Even if you managed to get in close - there is always a way to use your rapier/smallsword to hurt
Every weapon is slower than a smallsword. And even if your adversary wields a slower weapon and he's not a complete idiot who has it in his hands for the first time in his life - he will never, ever forsake his safe distance and let you get into close quarters. Unless you're fighting someone with no will to live. But even then - you're pretty screwed. A disarm attempt while having not a weapon nor armour by yourself is just plain stupid.
its all about mentality, you can take a sword through the heart and continue fighting for about 10 seconds, and survive for around 30 seconds
ive heard of someone who got their hand cut off by a machete in a fight jamming the bone of his wrist into the opponent and killing him.
ive beaten an opponent 10 times or more in a row while i was unarmed, because at first he thought it would be easy, over confindent, then he got scared and didnt react properly
You might be able to fight for about 10 seconds but you would not fight effectivly.
But this would be a rare case. The sword might penetrate: the heart, and a major blood vessel like the aorta. Then you would lose blood extremely fast and would be dead/uncounsious within 3 sec. And even if you got the most badass mentality and are uberdruged on alot of narcotics. You would not be able to fight in those 3 sec, because of energi loss and disabled movement you get from having a sword inside you.
Actually, if you have ever fenced, the tip is calibrated to only depress if enough pressure is put on the weapon so that a sharpened sword(lightsword for foil rapier for epee) would pierce deep enough to kill. You would be surprised just how easily skilled fencers can depress them. I would say it would take at most 3-4 shots to end a duel in death. Fencers are trained to have extreme accuracy, those hits would be devastating. And getting your hilt hit hard can shock your hand and eject the blade

That was a pooooorly executed grapple. I wouldve dropped my sword and whipped out my dagger in that time, opened a few slots around your midsection.

"13th Dan in classical fencing"?
Funny, I always thought fencing was a European activity, and Dan was a Japanese system of ranking.

Haha, that's ok then; it's just worrying how many bullshit artists there are out there on the webzor.

That's exactly why I put this vid here ;) I thought that it's clear that it is satirical, though.. :]

try having your arms down by your sides to protect your vitals
also try veriations of the gathering step
also try doing very slow non structured work to learn all of the bodies subtle cues and the geomatry of attack
as for the face thrust maybe try blocking with the elbow like in Russian systema or 52 blocks
Iam just offering thoughts and ideas

that small foil has to be the hardest of all swords to disarm

i have heared about knife disarm but sword disarm? how the heck can you get close to the hilt without being slashed or stabbed down?
sword disarm is just plain stupid, i whuld rather say to the swordman: look an elephant and runned like as i had the devil in my heels.

I suppose you think a 9mm bullet is a pinprick, Because i whould rather take a 9mm bullet than a shortsword any place on my body.
