I've lived byron bay all my life and it's now seriously losing it's peaceful atmosphere because of the huge amount of traffic and renovation that's been going on. Right now they're building a HUGE backpackers right in the middle of town, and it's hideous. If you want to get to town from the west side of byron, there's only one road, and due to constant traffic, takes atleast half an hour to get there, just so you can buy your groceries!

yea...I lived there for 10 yrs and theres a good side and a very dark side to this fantastic area.....its like a modern town with its overpopulated streets amd theres no rules apart from trying to do whats best for you! Which means its very hedonistic....not a place to raise children, but others would beg to differ

Byron Bay is like Salt Spring Island - a bunch of potheads with cottage industries. Wicked Weasel would be the most famous company to start in Byron Bay. I went to Byron Bay in April 1992 when I was backpacking.

I walked up to the lighthouse, which states BB is the easterly point in OZ.

I got a passer by to take a pic of me, then within minutes bright sunshine turned into thunderous rain.
