I bought a Black fuly automatic FOSSILL ME3018 last week, so far it has kept good time, but it's a bit early to say, but I love the watch, it is just stunning
This automatic watch is a big improvement over their earlier marketed models from a few years ago (my Bond Automatic lost several minutes per day! was sent 2 replacement watches and those were just as bad and I gave up persuing another replacement). This one so far has held correct time to the minute for the past week.
@Biernylcore Well, it's a quartz movement watch, so of course it's not Swiss-made. As to 'Japanese' - yes, the quartz movement that Fossil uses is Japanese, with Fossil doing the final assembly themselves. They also provide the movement for quite a few of the 'upscale' watch brands, AND the design for a multitude of other watch-selling companies in the 'fashion watch' segment. Which somehow seems to make Fossil suck a bit less ass, don't you think?
Can you tell me about the moving part in the watch? Why is it there? Does the watch actually need a battery if it has that part which spins back and forth? Why are they called automatic?
@jamesandthegiantpea Well there are many types of watches, this one is an automatic mechanical, it uses kinetic motion of your wrist to wind the watch. You can see the moving part on the back that's what keep the watch winding. There are also manual hand winding watches. also automatic self winding with a capacitor to hold the charge usually comes in hybrid quartz/automatic watches.
Its a nice watch to look at. Fossil automatics have a tendancy to lose a lot of time and develop mechanical problems. Stick with a quartz for better time keeping.
that is one handsome watch. i love it when you can see the inner workings thru the front/back plates. i want one. i'm a girl and i always get told to be 'dainty' but i just really love the look of a big, masculine watch. very nice selection! now, if you'll excuse me, i'm going to go drool over fossil's watch selection online.
I just got a fossil ME1030 as a xmas gift from the mrs. So far from what I see the quality of the casing is quite good. I cannot comment on reliabilty or accuracy. Asian movements tend to be fast.I am expecting +17 to 30 sec per 24h. Will see when I open up the box and get some wrist time.

I like Seikos, Citizen, Hamiltons, for the entry level mechanicals and Rolex, Omega, Seiko for mid to high end.
