  • Is any of this filmed in the Telford area ?

  • @salopsniper Nope - that one was filmed somewhere in Newquay, Cornwall, most of my later videos are filmed at different locations throughout Cornwall, UK.

  • I like that folding knife. looks good

  • Opinel rules!

  • Simple idea, but a great one. Thank you for taking the time to teach me.

  • @TyphoonWinds No problem. Thanks for watching.

I've just started a new Community/Forum at the NaturalBushcraft website, it's full of knowledgable folk willing to share skills & knowledge, feel free to come along and join in, it's a useful learning tool for us all. All the best,

    - Ashley Cawley.

  • Good video. I made myself a small fishing kit attached to a small carabiner, lol.

Have you ever used the fishing kit? :)

    Cheers.

  • @broadie96 I have once, but it was never meant to be a frequent-user. Just one of those items you'd have on you if you really needed it.

  • Nice Vid, I bought one of those cheap multitools from Helston Lidi`s a while ago and chucked the tool pretty soon after as it broke. but i kept the sheath thinking it would come in handy. Cornwall forever :)

  • @angof Kernow bys vyken!

  • this is great i hate all those survival kits that put crazy items that have no use in any survival situation

  • Really nice video. Great kit. Small and perfect. You also made me laugh at the end there. Thanks for posting.

  • I have an old leatherman case I no longer use I may use to do this. Thanks for the idea.

  • you know what, i like it! very nice very nice! 5/5 *

  • Use a double lenth of 550 cord on the pouch. Distributes the weight better and gives you a useful amount (about 150cm x 7 inner strands + sheath = 1200cm or 12m) of cordage.

Also: Trade the monofiliment for spyderwire or another braided line. Does not kink the way mono does. I also think that you could get a few extra hooks & small lure in there and a ziplock baggy's worth of tinder. Rather useful on a wet day.

  • long live leaterman :D

  • Great vid. I like seeing people utilizing and making kits that don't cost an arm and a leg. 5+

  • Opienals Are Sharp as razors and cheap

  • one thing its not a convex edge

on your GB axe thats a convex edge

it called a full flat grind

  • As far as I was concerned there was a very small convex edge on the blade-edge? Im not saying the whole thing is convex, I understand what your saying its ground flat but then there's a real tiny conex edge on the end of it, its not a secondary-bevel, and hence the use of foam & wet&dry to sharpen the small convex-edge right?

  • Absolutely correct.

  • @NaturalBushcraft You are correct--he is an opinionated idiot that is, like usual, incorrect. Both the axe and Opinel are convex ground.

  • Your actually wrong "chrissept21" sorry bro..

They are flat ground and then finished with a convex edge...

  • Lovely video, really enjoyable.

  • Add a button compas, a micro led flashlight, a piece of well folded alluminium foil and a flat whistle, and use a piece of interlaced paracord as necklace (so you have 20 feet of this or more) and it will be the "final kit", for me. I think with those item added, the kit will weight no more of 150, 160 grams.

  • i agree that would round it out very nice id add 2-3 band aids and some cotton ball tinder great ideas all around!

  • Good as far as it goes.

Suggestion: Add a Silva S.E.R.E. compass and a small photon-light type coin torch to the lanyard.

  • Don't you Englishman also carry an emergency supply of tea and crumpets?

  • Englishman! How dare you!.. Im a Cornishman, its Cider, Scones & Clotted Cream for me! :p

  • And hey! Don't forget the pasties.

  • @NaturalBushcraft id have to take for rashions, hard tack, jerky, and dried fruit like oranges and raisens...

  • Opinel are the 'frosts' of the folding knife world in my opinion, a lot of knife for your money :) Great Vids Ash, I carry something similar, with the inclusion of a minimaglite and a whistle. I also carry an EKA folder instead of the opinel (although I've carried opinels since the 70s), as it's a little more substantial. We'll have to do some vids together at sometime mate. Cheers. Justin (rawshak)

  • Cheers Justin, I've only had an opinel a couple of years but it has done great. I'd definitely love to hook up and shoot video with you sometime! :)

  • Hi really good piece of kit you have there...! 5/5...!

  • Great idea keeping those essentials so close to the body. I've heard Opinels are good utility knives, I'll have to get one.

  • I have an Opinel in my collection. I have never had the chance to used it yet. Got other knives that I take with me when I go out.

I love the closing credits with the fox in the distanc. Then the other two jump into frame.

Perfect piece of music for it aswell.

  • They're a brilliant pocket knife and if yours is made of carbon steel and has got the locking mechanism too it'll also be good for using with the Firesteel.

  • Thanks about the credits, I appreciate it. The little spinet of film I got of the foxes has to be one of my favourite that I've captured, I got lucky when I was out and caught it on my old compact camera. The only frustrating thing was about four days latter I was getting a new compact with a lot higher recording quality, double the resolution etc. I would have loved to have it in my hand then.

  • i have the exact same set up for my fishing kit.
