  • what is overclocking?

  • hey awesvideo but also on my m11x on the login screen for my users ia boring blue windows screen and yours is red alienware how do i do that?

  • Holy shit. I owe you my good sir.

  • @NateWeint Ha, no worries, glad it helped!

  • when i do this my video output drops to zero?

  • once you enable turbo mode you have to actually go into the settings of it (still in the bios, right underneath enable) and change the freq to what you want. just enabling it wont actually make a difference.. at least on my m11xR3 i5

  • i have insydeH20 in BIOS, help please!

  • I want to buy an M11x with 4Gb ram, 250GB hd, Intel Core 2 Duo (1.73ghz) 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M Graphics

Can this handle Skyrim (needs 2.00ghz) can i overclock it so it could? HELP MEH

  • @TheDanSpicer yes it can play skyrim, i have the same m11x r1 with same specs and it runs skyrim ok on low graphics

  • @TheDanSpicer: You won't be able to run Skyrim very good at all; but it will run...

  • @TheDanSpicer Marduk is wrong. I have the exact same computer and i can run it just fine on medium graphics.

  • @KrazyKantelope how? Mine is barely playable on lowest graphics AND isoverclocked!!! please help!

  • @TheDanSpicer Im not very good with computer specifics but in this video when he overclocks it theres an option to turn your graphics card from disabled to switchable. You can try that, however if that doesnt work im afraid i cant help you. Sorry.

  • Hey i couldnt see the number but it looked like it was over 2ghz and thats pretty awesome and i have the new i3 sandy bridge version so i hope i can get higher.

  • at the start he magically presses a button and doesnt tell can someone tell me what button that is o_o

  • @Lightnazor F12, it boots to the BIOS ;)

  • @HPGolfer101 Lol i found out myself but i went to the bla bla stuff and i cant find the enable clock thing or find the overclocking fking dell lol

  • @HPGolfer101 u lied there is no optionin the bios to overlock the cpu

  • al i understand its bakdbasdhlutdyfdsah ... still i like it:)

  • have you gotten any higher than 2.6?

  • does it get overheat?

  • @deniz11muis1 Yeah, overclocking increases the temperature, although you get to load things faster. Be carefull of how much you overclock it though, you can fry your pc easily just by overclocking.

  • I cant run Halo 2 that well on this laptop and I bought it just for gaming. What should I overclock? What are the consequences and how can I prevent it. Someone please help!

  • @NSNewcomeR what website did you get halo 2 for vista from???

  • @mast007Er i bought it...

  • @NSNewcomeR Is it running the nvidia gpu or is it trying to run it with intel? Press Fn+F6 (both at the same fime) to switch between the two

  • Is headshot just jealous that we can spend a grand on this kick ass laptop, and he can't? Lol

  • Something is wrong with headshot. This is meant to be a computer to take with you where ever you want to go. Most people don't know, have not idea how to build a computer. Also I find nothing wrong with Dell. Every computer I have owned is a Dell. No problems with them, at all. Have a nice day.

  • one last time for you monkeys the i7 in this it the I7-2617M 4 cores 2 physical and 2 virtual. that means you have 2 core and 4 threads. you wanna blow a grand on this trash go ahead asus will smoke it, it crap, last time i will say this you didn't overclock i don't care WTF that button says, its turbo boost, you turn on 1 more multiplier that's why your clock speed goes up 133Mhz, have fun with dell lies, call Intel they'll fill you in

  • what is overclocking and what does it do

  • @flar28 Overclocking is like making your CPU(processor, usually a sticker on your computer if you want too look at the specs of yours) go into overdrive, so like.. my computer has 1.6MHZ see.. if I get it to overclock it goes to 2.4MHZ and thats a big diffrence even though its only in decimals.. My friend got his laptop with 2.4MHZ go to 4.6MHZ which is 2x more then a regular Desktop .

  • @a04tbaba I think you mean Ghz....

  • for the record, i love videos like this. best resource for obscure comp lore on the net. but a bit of advise, people should rehears before posting these, maybe some editing out of your ummms and ahhs. just one opinion. @HPgolfer101, thank you this was exactly what i needed to know

  • what headshit and 09 are two bitches! u gusy entertained me/wasted my youtube surfing time for 1 minute. get girlfriends and quit nerding around..... i like asus and this little dell. who cares which is better?... ass

  • And headshot. U need to stop talking out ur ass dude.. peace

  • @MrDefeated222 talkin out my ass? look it up troll, go learn something, go read can you do that. your retarded, who #1 games on a dell, #2 blows a grand on a P.O.S. comp, go buy it, they look at the cpu reviews on it and cry.

  • Wow I read that whole fight...dumbasses... its all about what u want out of a computer every company/brand has its good computers and its not so good ones... personally I'm buying this m11x because it fits my needs and its got some power.

  • What does overclocking do/ mean

  • Can i Over-clock my CPU???

    Processor: INTEL(R) CELERON (R) CPU E1500 @ 2.20GHz

    Installed Memory (RAM): 2.00GB

  • this is NOT overclocking, if you call this overclocking then you call making a sandwich opening up the fridge and pulling one out, or dropping in a V8 where a V6 was would be called taking it to a shop and picking up when its done. however in the real world of overclock it's more complicated then dropping in a big block V8 with twin turbos into a jetta. DELL computers CANNOT be overclocked, thats why they live forever, and are slower then balls.

  • @HeadShot343 umm it is an overclock, its an alienware btw which was BOUGHT by dell. the m11x can be overclocked because it has a very slow cpu and it has sufficient cooling.

  • @09ghtght another person that knows nothing, dell is famous for having settings that disable cpu cores, don't ever talk about dell or HP or compaq and expect not to be laughed at. some sonys can be overclocked. how can you open your mouth without knowing the definition of overclock. overclocking = changing base clock or multipliers to reach to high clock speed.if you hit the stupid button and neither of those things change you did NOT overclock monkey.

  • @HeadShot343 explain to me why the clock speed is higher then? why is it that i can achieve higher frame rates? why is it that my laptop scores higher in benchmarks? why is it that programs open faster? why is it that battery life is cut down? why is it that windows detects hardware changes? why is it that the fan is consistently buzzing? why is it that my windows score is now higher? ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS PLEASE before you go about saying my processor is NOT running at higher speeds

  • @09ghtght in order, no it's not prove it, before and after shots of the bios, and all the rest are the same answer, if you have a 6 core CPU from the factory they disable cores, its the same thing as HT(hyper threading) from the factory they dial it down, that button lets you run all cores, all the time, thus sucking more voltage, creating more heat. now that you are running all 6 cores(if that piece of trash has 6) yu have 12 threads now raising all scores. PS only i7-975 and up can be OC

  • @HeadShot343 LOL @ "piece of trash", let me remind you that this is an 11 inch netbook. mine is running a second generation i7 and a 2gig vram card, i would like to see you find a netbook with those capabilities, and if you can please do. and to prove you wrong, yet again,"Both processors run at 1.3GHz by default and the frontside bus on both processors can be overclocked from 800MHz to 1066MHz thus creating an overclocked speed of roughly 1.73GHz to 1.6GHz with Intel SpeedStep." -notebookreview

  • @09ghtght first any ASUS will blow your doors offs, second wow 1.3 to 1.6 haha i went from 3.47 to 6.7 (i7 990X) if you think overclocking is this way or you buy a dell your a fool and not worth my time. talk to frozen cpu and see if they don't laugh at you, im running dual PSU's (silverstone strider st 1500's) i have 3200 watts to throw around, i bet you didn't know you can run dual power supplies, you have nothing you are nothing, dell is trash. welcome to overclocking & gaming now get lost

  • @HeadShot343 though alienwares may be overpriced, you CANNOT say that they cant game, well you have to pay for it though haha, and yes custom builts are obviously better but no way you can say a fully configured alienware is trash. and A QUICK QUESTION that i would like to see you answer: where else can you get an 11 inch netbook that can run crysis on med-high settings? good luck with that, if its possible

  • @HeadShot343 also, are you retarded enough to compare a high-end desktop ($1000 990x processor) to a netbook? really? are you seriously that low-lifed? and just for your information: a high end alienware is ALSO (omg omg its a dell, it cant use normal intel processors /sarcasm) is equipped with a 990x (i know right, ITS A DELL /you stupid fanboy). do some research before you start trolling you hillbilly (yea i saw your videos, got a problem?)

  • @09ghtght this hillbilly can blow your doors off, this hillbilly is a true overclocker unlike you troll. only a full blown retard would take a 990X shove it in a dell and throttle it DOWN yes DOWN since stock is 6 cores 12 threads @ 3.47Ghz STOCK STOCK!!!!!! your running at what? I have six dimm slots running triple channel, what? dual triple channel. you have a netbook. i built six computers for anonymous, now im going after them. and P.S. this hillbilly just joined the 7 Ghz club shove it FAG

  • @HeadShot343 LOL homophobe insults now? how low can you get? I dont care how fast your computer is running at because you know what, YOU HAVE NO LIFFFFFFFFFFFFFEEEEEEEEEEE! and the 990x in the dell desktop is actually clocked at 4ghz so yea.... fail much? And let me just show you how retarded you sound "P.S. this hillbilly just joined the 7 Ghz club shove it FAG" and yes i have a netbook, but i also have a built desktop with a 990x and dual gtx 590 sli.... so i repeat, FAIL MUCH?

  • @09ghtght hellen keller knows more about computers then you, dell computers cannot be overclocked, call dell i have their number if you like. they make em like that on purpose. but hey your the retard that bought a dell, your a bigger retard because you bought a netbook. hands down the most worthless pile of garbage ever created. wtf is the point of having NO cd drive. have fun installing a new OS. your also the kind of moron that owns an iphone4 outdated before it launched by the HTC evo.

  • @HeadShot343 LOL dude dont assume, please just dont. people that have a JOB and dont live in their parents basement leeching off of their income would be able to afford MULTIPLE computer. And because i ACTUALLY go outside to catch some (OMG IT BURNSSSSSS) sun, i need something portable yet powerful. I do very much understand that no lifers like you could not see the purpose of having a portable machine as you have no knowledge of the eminent world around (ahhh its a "girl" run!)

  • does this effect battery life ?

  • @ZombieKillzoneOps no, not to any significant degree. Running the graphics card will however. Generally speaking though, if you're going to be "gaming" on this I'd recommend you be on line power anyway.

  • @HPGolfer101 yes and no, no it will not impact the battery cuz this is not a real overclock, if it was you would then see in the bios that your base clock has changed or the multiplier changed or both resulting in a high processor clock speed. you would also have changed the frequencies of the QPI, memory, and Uncore. increase too high and you would need to increase voltage. which leads to part 2 YES,= increasing voltage decreases battery life. no offense to anyone else but dell has an IQ of -89

  • Ok i have the first gen m11x and iv been trying to find a way to make gta 4 run better so i overclocked it just like on the video.Everything went good and gta 4 ran flawless but 5 minutes into the game my m11x froz making this weae up and started making this weird sound so i manuly shut it down and changed it back.So just be careful when overclocking this laptop.

  • @scavenger4life it has an automatic shut down when it gets to a certain tempature

  • @jcubg12345 i did some reading and found this out,i fixed it from crashing by updating the bios.Istalled bios update ao5 and everything is running perfect.

  • @scavenger4life hhmmm strange i have bios A03 modded for 9.5v and when i go to the bios i dont find any options that let me overlock the SU7300 CPU

  • this doesn't void your warrenty, right?

  • @o0ZporK0o right. however if it causes any malfunctions in your system dell will ask you to stop overclocking and if the problem is solved that way they wont fix your computer. so basically while overclocking doesnt void the warrenty, dell is not responsible for the way your PC performs while OC'd, as long as it doesnt effect the system while its running at 1.3

  • Thanks this really helps

  • This laptop give u an option to enable or disable - change it to enable and your done.

    is made for overcloking

  • so i read online that it's not good to overclock laptops....is the m11x included in this general "laptop" category, or does the m11x have sufficient cooling to keep things from frying?

    Thanks

  • @KetchupPrince the 1st gen M11x is made to handle this, only raises the temp 1 degree C

  • @HPGolfer101 i bought my m11x this past friday, so im assuming mine is not first gen?

  • @KetchupPrince i highly doubt it. if it is an i-core, then it is def not 1st gen

  • @HPGolfer101 its has an "Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo SU7300 processor"

  • @KetchupPrince aah, ok cool, that is what i have, so, following this vid, you should be able to use the same method. and if the option is there in the bios, you should be just fine as far as negative effects go.

  • @HPGolfer101 okay, thank you very much :)

  • @HPGolfer101 i downloaded windows 7 that came with my m11x that i received yesterday and now i cant connect to internet or acces alienware command center or anything, do you know how to reverse this? i tried a system restore already but it didnt work.

  • @KetchupPrince the core 2 is as u call it first gen its really just called r1 the i versions are the r2

  • @techdudz o ok, thanks

  • So I heard the processor's the weakest link in the M11x that will stop you from being able to play certain games, how will overclocking affect the processor negatively (I know the computer will run faster...)? And if you're going to answer that it doesn't affect anything at all then why is it only 2.6 (1.3x2) Ghz in the 1st place?

  • @ExcalibursinX good comment/observation. i have the 1st gen, and it has yet to fail to run/play anything i've thrown at it. i will be the first to admit that my game library isnt very extensive, however, the music production software i use is very processor heavy. as far as the negatives go, in tests an OC'd processor raised 1 degree Celsius, and no other adverse effects were found. mind you at the time of the test, it was new, so i dont know what the long term (1+ years) effects might be.

  • @HPGolfer101 Thanks, that's rather reassuring, so I hope you won't mind me pushing more questions on you as my only satisfactory resource so far. Just to make sure you use the Su7300 1.3 Ghz version right? 2GB Ram? And the Cpu overclocked?

    1. You've been using it for a year with no adverse effects so far?

    2. If the computer fails while I'm overclocking is my insurance void?

    3. You notice a very substantial change in performance with overclocking?

    4. Only 34 fahrenheit? What games do you run?thx

  • @ExcalibursinX my specs: C2D SU7300 1.3 oc'd to 1.7 4GB DDR3 1GB Nvidia GT 335M (standard) 500GB HDD WIN7 x64.

no adverse effects as of yet (knock wood)

it will not void the warranty/insurance in this case only via the method shown in this vid. this particular model was made to be safely OC'ed in this manner, and marketed as such.

i can't say i've noticed too much mainly because i OC'ed it right after i got it and never went back lol mass effect 2, R.U.S.E., Company of heros.Boarderlands 2

  • @HPGolfer101 Excellent, thanks for your reply. Except..... Borderlands "2"?

  • @ExcalibursinX yea Boarderlands 2. sorry, character limit cut that off

  • @HPGolfer101 That game-... Is out? Are we talking about the same thing? Borderlands? By Gearbox? RPG Shooter? I didn't know the sequel was out... Also I had this thought a bit back, I read that there's a switch for the M11x for High and Low performance, where it enables/disables the 335m video in order to increase performance/battery life. My question is, would it have been possible for them to enable/disable overclock with the same button to make it even more versatile and convenient?

  • @ExcalibursinX oops! my fault, not 2, just Borderlands.. been a long day. as for your question regarding a "hot swap" for the processor speed, i do not think thats possible yet. i think this was the most convenient way to set it up.

  • @HPGolfer101 I see. Thanks for all the info.

  • what prosseser do you have?

  • @69sorrow69 1st gen C2D SU700 1.3

  • hi just got mine today and i love it.....if i overclock it the exact way you did will it overheat? or hurt my beautiful new hardware?

  • @ntune990

No it won't, it gets the same exact temps on stock clock in some cases better battery life as well. It won't hurt it at all

  • what's the safest setting i can put my processor to without fucking it up completely. cus i dont wanna ruin my new M11x alienware

  • @Shadowryder120 you prolly have the newer version, so i really don't know. but even w/out messing w/ your M11x, it should handle anything you can throw at it!

  • all it will do is give ur processor a shoter lifespan maybe! all processor are like 1 in million. no two are the same.

  • will this like overheat the cpu or gpu?

  • do u get much more fps if your overclock

  • can this not brake the pc

  • @reedy111111111111111 wont brake this model, using this method...

  • @HPGolfer101 so ur basiclly just gonna put it to ENABLE? and its all done

  • @MyThePooP yup, on the 1st gen, thats all you gotta do!

  • @HPGolfer101 oh thought this was R2 lol

  • Do you reccomend overclocking it? Because the thing about overclocking is if you overdo it, you fuck your system.

  • @ZePwner350 with this model, and doing it shown in the vid, youre fine. it takes it up only .4ghz , 1.3 to 1.7. anything more "in depth", my guess is you would put it at risk.

  • hey, i just wanna ask if the higgher mhz the better peformance i get?

  • @rockstarj19970721 generally speaking, yes

  • @HPGolfer101 one last thing, last time when i changed my mhz to the highest my computer went blue screeen( crashed?). so.....at what mhz should I select?

    Thx man!

  • @rockstarj19970721 well, do you have the m11x? w/ the SU700 chip or one of the i-series chips? if its 1gen like mine, as shown in the vid here, "enabled" takes you from 1.3 to 1.7, and thats it. i havent gotten my geeky lil hands on the newer ones yet to see if they are different.

  • @HPGolfer101 i got m11x i5, thx anyways

  • How much is this comp? I want it I have a compaq single core proccessor 2gb of ram and all the good gaming video and sound cards i can run most games but at low setting which doesn't bother me. i cant run bfbc2 or moh mp at low and dr2 and lfd2

  • @dynomyck8 $940 or if you want one with the i5 $999

  • hey dude my setup settings are completely different, when i enable overclock, it opens a whole bunch of options from 133mhz to 166mhz, i chose 166mhz saved it and rebooted,i checked system spces and it didnt change..

  • @demonic346 166mhz could be your front side bus. that doesn't mean you're overclocking your cpu. you might want to check out the mhz, lets say 1.3 then its 1300 mhz, etc... i don't know about core voltage either, but you'll need to put the voltage a bit up in order to maintain a stable cpu overclock.

  • overclocking this way is safe, overclocking by modifying the processor can cause damage

  • btw turbo boost is on so should i turn this off

  • for some reason my computer has crashed twice when i overclocked it to 166 mhz anyway i can stop it cause i would like to increase performance

  • is it the same with the alienware aurora

  • How much does the Core i7 version overclock to?

  • Would you suggest that I overclock only when I get power off the power supply? Instead of the battery.

  • @iPattv i'm not exactly sure what you mean here, but i can tell you i OC'd mine and left it that way since i owned the laptop. hope that helps....

  • @HPGolfer101 He's saying 'Is it reccomended to overclock without you're battery charger?' So bassicly he's saying how long does it run in overclock mode.

  • @cromwellsimon ooohhhh, my bad, ok. yea the battery life is slightly less while overclocked, but nothing outlandish. i've been asked how long its lasted etc before, and i usually plug it in, longest i've gone on battery has been 4 hours-ish. and had no problems

  • Did it ruin your computer when you overclocked it? I heard it overheats and breaks :/ If you overclock can it run cod mw2 with fraps recording? Because when i record while playing mw2 i only get 15 fps cuz its soooo laggy ;/

  • @TheSeguinchris no, my pc is fine, as long as you do it as shown in the vid via the bios. the m11x was "meant" to be able to be oc's via this method. it can still run fraps, but i have found that fraps bogs down any pc i have, not just this lil guy. i say try it though, see if it improves after overclocking..

  • Is there anyway i can overclock beyond 1.73? I have installed after market Kingston HyperX 2X2 4gb memory modules at 1066 mhz at 5-5-5-15. Maybe i should have gotten the 1333's to push the frontside bus...

  • how about the m15x

  • Do u know where can I find those methd? I dnt know about overclock. But I already update the BIO to R3

  • how about m11xr2 i7? can u tell me?

  • @heng1981tang I ~think~ its via the same method. no harm will come by getting into the BIOS to see if the "value" is on yours as well.

  • Is this the exact same over clocking for the M11X R2 Core i7 model.

    HELP THANKS!

  • very helpful

  • very helpful

  • how do I overclock the machine at 2.266ghz?

  • I thought you could overclock to 2.266ghz? Please, someone respond to say how I do this. thank-you!

  • should be able to overclock em further, alienware laptops have good cooling etc...for being what they are :P

  • I'm going to order an m11x. but i got 1 question, for when im nto gaming, its 1.3ghz and when i do game ill set it to 1.73, can i keep overclocking and underclocking? not like every hour, just daily without damaging any part of the system

  • @eNITH24a i just OC'd it and left it that way. gaming is mainly dependent on the GPU anyway.

  • @HPGolfer101 yeah but the problem is taht this is just a netbook, if i keep it like that its gonna keep getting hot repeatedly, i dont want that. :/

  • @eNITH24a tests done on the SU700 chip (i dunno bout the i 5/i7's) showed the temp to only raise 1 degree C, so you'll be fine. mine stays quite temperate if i'm just running the integrated graphics. gets real hot when i switch to the Nvidia

  • @HPGolfer101 Oh yeah i wanted u to ask that, to switch cards, do u just go to BIOS again then that next tab and then select that "switchable" thing?

  • @eNITH24a if you mean switching between the graphics cards, it can be done "on the fly" Fn +F6 to toggle.

  • @HPGolfer101 lol what if u did that while in game..xD

  • @eNITH24a it will just pop up an "idiot box", usually causing the game to crash.

  • notebook forums dot com / thread 233194 dot html

  • @Velli1987 hey guys, for some reason youtube gave me problems for copy and pasting a direct link so i had to split it up. hope you get the hint of what to type in. but this guy gave some in detail info on how to overclock the i7 m11x. This youtube clip is helpful but he's explaining for the core 2 duo processors. hope this helps guys

  • Comment removed

  • Is there any way to manually set the clock speed? Also, is that the max you can OC it?

  • So thats all you do? Just click enable over clock and it just does it?

  • @scruffylittledog yup! at least for the Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 chip

  • i thought alienware came overclocked by "the dell computer experts"

  • @WarpeaceWar6 ahaha, TU! comment of the week! lol

  • does this work on the m17x?

  • few questions, how do you like the m11x? Was it a worthy purchase? also im not familiar with Overclocking, what exactly does it do?

  • @Gnarleytoker65 love it for power + portability. got mine for $901 USD, not sure you can get my specs for that price now, though i could be wrong. not sure i'd pay <$1000. might wanna google over clocking, not enough characters remain to properly delve into it haha

  • imnew here so whats the point of this? and r there any risks

  • @14finfin if you are not familiar or comfortable with it, i wouldn't really worry about it. but if you do it via the bios, u'll be fine. in tests it raised the core temp 1 degree.

  • @HPGolfer101 thanks

  • Can you OC it and then use the Turbo Frequency thing?

  • @2ndclasstudios i honestly don't know what you are referring to, thus cannot say, sorry...

  • @2ndclasstudios

Are you talking about the i5/i7?

If so then yes, but some people say it works better without it on.

  • @2ndclasstudios i think you could overclock it but turn off turbo frequency...because you don't want it going up to like 4 ghz or w/e unexpectedly and have the whole pc screwed up, besides... you should always turn off turbo when o.c.ing

  • thanks bro

  • @johnolazabal no problem, glad it helped

  • @HPGolfer101 I'm still pretty much a noob to overclocking and what not, but the M11x I'm getting has the i7 with it. Would overclocking that be the same process as the one in the video?

  • @D3ADA1M if you are getting the i7, i see no reason to oc it, but i'm guessing the process will be the same.

  • why do you want the core i7? its stupidly expensive, get the core i5 and OC

  • any dangers with this?

  • @3fingersfb no, its "meant" to be OC's as this vid shows the ease with which you are able to do so, and in tests it only increased the temp by 1 degree. HOWEVER, this is NOT a vid on the new "i" processors, so i cannot speak to the safety/ease on those....

  • guys? i got m11x core2 duo and i would like to upgrade the processor to core i7, is it possible?

  • @nastykidEX sure - here's how you do it.

    1) wait until july 13th (when the i7 m11x becomes available

    2) sell your current m11x (on ebay etc.)

    3) buy a new i7 m11x

there isn't any way to upgrade the one you currently have to i7 tho, if that's what you meant

  • @nastykidEX No.
