It is a branch if Chinese Long Fist connected to the Emperor Zhao Kuang Yin. Most of it is descended from his military fighting arts, through Shaolin temple when he sent his Generals there to teach in the infancy of the Sung dynasty. Some sets are related directly to him.
There are also other styles with this name, like Tai Zu Crane, which are not related. In those cases "Tai Tzu", meaning Great Ancestor, just refers to the fact that the style is very, very old and may be the parent of other related arts.
