@DarkerThanLucifer The finish on mine doesn't look plastic-like, I know what you mean about the VMNTX finish, they really don't have much flair, this one actually looks like Silver and even has a bit of a sparkle to it.
@Subsist68 In your opinion how well does the neck compare to a Jackson? I recently got an unfinished King V but the only problem with it is a floyd rose, I realized it is a pain to tune it so I'm thinking of going fixed bridge instead. Is the neck about the same though?
@DarkerThanLucifer The neck is similar to the Jackson, Mustaine preferred to take a similar neck shape from the Jacksons over to his Dean signature models.
I think this guitar beats a jackson for king V and saving at least 1000$ what a pain for jackson which are overpriced. I know for alder but jackson was proved to have some little bad things there and there. Ill go with a Dean.
@magicthunder666 Yes, it comes in Black and Silver at this price, if you have more money to spend, you can get graphics such as the Rust in Peace, Angel of Deth, and Gears of War graphics. A new graphic for the V's was unveiled at NAMM 2011 and it's called the VMNT "Fear"
where did u get the case? i bought a vmntX which is the cheaper model, and i had to buy a dean flying v case from musicians friend and the guitar barely fit into it, i had to wedge it in, u could tell the case wasn't made for dave mustain signatures but the dean flying v series instead
@motorheadbanger90 When you buy the VMNT1, it comes with a custom fitted case, I had the same problem with my Dean VMNTX and had to get the same case you're talking about, to be honest, I don't know where to find the custom fitted case.
I'm currently playing a 'slim tapered D profiled' neck and it's 'one size too small) for my hands,I'm pretty sure that something more thicker will be more comfortable for me,
As I'm not able to test this guitar out, does this compare to a slim d type of neck?
@irolis Well, the neck is a bit of a unique D-shape. It was custom made for Mustaine's hand profile, It's a little bit beefier than a Slim D profile neck.
@MrKornballs I'm not sure about a stand or a wall mount, I keep my guitar in it's case when not in use. When you get the VMNTX, if you feel it is worthy, you can always swap the pickups out for some Seymour Duncan JB/59s or the Duncan Distortions, those are the two I would recommend, the Livewires are actives modeled after the JB/59 set.
@JBL8863 Then you must have a copy, Dean Guitars does not sell an Actual VMNT for 799.99 with Passive Pups, unless you bought it used from someone who swapped the electronics.
@Subsist68 Did you go on the site I posted in other comments? check out how much they are NOW and the fact that you can NOW buy a black version with passive PuPs and mother of pearl dot inlays...
Keep in mind the cheaper version also puts the output jack on the bottom and dosen't include a signed & numbered model with a certificate & hard shell case
Signed and numbered...I guess your just bumming I got the real deal in black for a lot less than you must have paid, that is if you own one.
@JBL8863 I'm looking at the site now, there is no actual Dean VMNT model in Black that comes with Pearl dot and passive pups, as for the certificate, the certificate and numbered models only come with USA custom runs, which I doubt you have with those specs you're providing, you're the one who is getting ripped off, I work in a guitar store that sells both VMNTs and VMNTXs, trust me sir, you have no idea what you're talking about.
@megadeath1555 The VMNT is the professional model, it's high-end, great quality, the VMNTX is the entry level model and is made with Basswood instead of Mahogany, and the pickups are not the Dave Mustaine signatures. Inlays are also different, as the Pro Model has the Sharktooth and Dot inlays, the VMNTX only has dot inlays.
@Subsist68 Not true brother...This model guitar is made in two colors, grey & black. The black has dot inlays with Seymour ducan pasive uncovered PuPs...I own the black version not the silver...It screams when the volume is turned around half and get's over the top turned up full bore. I was suprised how light this guitar is...It isn't heavy at all but then again there isn't much wood in a V body just lectronics that make it work...
@JBL8863 Nah, that's the VMNTX, the entry level model, both VMNT models are the same except for the color. There is not VMNT model with uncovered pups.
@JBL8863 Yes, that is the model I have, but the website you are probably looking at is Musicians Friend or Guitar Center, when you click the black option, it give you a picture of the Dean VMNTX, the Dean VMNT in black has all the same features as the Silver, only it's Black.
@MultiJeffthomas Well, if you buy a Black one, fingerprints easily show up on the body and belt rash shows up more as well, that's why I picked Silver, so it eliminates the need to wipe for prints after each time you play.
@MetalPhoenix13 The Black one does, it's just websites like Guitar Center and Musicians Friend have them showing the VMNTX, which is the entry model. I don't know why they haven't corrected it.
I'm new to V guitars. Trying to decide between these V's. Dean VMNT, ESP-LTD V300, Schecter V1 Hellraiser, Gibson Faded V or the Mustaine Model with the Graphics (??name??) Let's have your opinion.
@hawg427 If I had to pick out of any of these guitars, it would either be the VMNT or the LTD V300. Gibson's Quality Control has been to unpredictable the past couple of years, and I've never been a fan of Schecter Vs due to that strangely shaped upper wing on the body. Think of the LTD like it's a prototype version of the VMNT and the VMNT is the finished product. The LTD comes with EMGs and the VMNT comes with Seymour Duncan Livewires, which have a better, clearer sound. I'd go with either one
@hawg427 Hard to say which guitar is the best for buying because I had 8 but now own 7 guitars and all I can tell you is everyone of them feels and sounds differant...
I say this because I rip apart most of them and install differant PuPs in the 7 remaining...I am a huge fan of vintage 59 PuPs but also like my EMG's actives...old school 81 versions...
I do a complete rewire using better cable than stock, solder ceramic caps to tone pots, 500K pots and gold plated switch & inputs. good-luK
just got mine in the mail today!! \m/ i love it....but i had to put 10 gage strings on it because the 9's were to light....i think it brought out the tone a little more as well!! \m/
@wvmetalmaiden It's always a good idea to swap out Factory strings. I use Mustaine's GHS Progressive 10-52's on the VMNT and I love the feel of them. I've played 4 shows and practice at least 2 hours a day and they haven't lost their tone. Enjoy thrashing on your new VMNT \m/
@gmanhell94: Yes, this guitar's construction quality and sound are worth the price. I would say the next thing above this is the USA model or a USA Jackson King V.
@Subsist68 Also, i'm 5'4, 5'5ish right now, (about to turn 15), will this thing make me look tiny lol? I've played it before but it was for a short time, i only played it sitting down.
@MegaTallicaCovers I'm about 5'7'' and what I've noticed is that it looks huge on me in pictures, but it doesn't feel big when I'm playing it. I think you could pull it off as long as you adjust your guitar strap so that it feels comfortable.
@megapurify Yes, compared to other V-shaped guitars, I have found this one to be lighter than most, I believe it was made lighter due to Mustaine's problem with his spine and neck.
tis a mighty fine guitar, in silver finish too, nice .i've got 1 with the dark red finish (gold hardware) and 1 with the 'angel of death' paintjob (black hardware), got the angel of death at a local music shop and loved it so much, i had to have another 1, so bought the second 1 when i went to see michael angelo at this dean convention thingy
@jesus2metal You have a USA model? Nice! After I purchase another amplifier, I'm gonna buy an Angel of Deth VMNT. They're great guitars, probably one of the best that I've ever played from Dean.
@SwaggaBoy666 Unless you can provide evidence to your claim, then your argument is invalid, since I own both the VMNTX and the VMNT, I can assure you that the VMNT has an ebony fingerboard.
@lolbsb I had to convert the price to US dollars, and that's still pretty high here in the US, is it possible for you to purchase one from America? I know Musicians Friend ships to Canada. This guitar is great for the price that I paid, the pickups, the sound. It's hands down the greatest guitar I've ever played.
Are all the pearl dots in the inlays the same size? It looks like some are different, but it could be the lighting.
wlindenlaub 2 weeks ago
@wlindenlaub The Pearl Dots are the same size. It's just my bad camera.
Subsist68 2 weeks ago
@Subsist68 Thanks for responding. I've noticed the same thing on the actual product spotlight videos from Dean. It's a very nice looking guitar.
