That was the thing about Konami, they had a habit of pushing console to their bare limits. Though the games themselves were excellently designed, they were often plagued with slowdown and sprite flickering. Just look at Gradius 3, at times you can slow down the game by moving.

Watching this makes me get a rush of nostalgia. I used to have like loads of these import shitty-ass knockoff games in my country when i was growing up. There was no "actual NES", some weird Famicom system with yellow cartridges. But It's still awesome as hell to watch this, as I spent a load of my time on these games .. not to speak of the controller-kill-count of raging

it's meant to be slow at points - that's the first game in history to use Bullet time!!! And it has nothing to do with Contra. I hoped there will be anime made to it some day - characters are great, but the old school action packed anime is no more

This game was originally realeased in...uhhh...Japan? Under the name "Arc Hound" but they didn't use it so they decided to slap the contra logo on the front and hope it blended in.

I played this as a boy and I loved it.

Burns character was my favourite because he could jump at 2-box height.

Smith was also good due to his guided missiles.

Iron was the slowest but to coolest.

Contra Force rocks!

Well, in order for that to work, it'd probably have to involve aliens. The game implies that the Contra unit is like a SWAT unit, and that they deal with terrorism.

Quite a contrast to the alien-hunting motherfuckers in all of the other games.

I've played the game, and all enemies shoot at you. It's just that once you get fluent and swift in the game you just don't give them the chance. But believe me, it's quite difficult at later parts.

This was not orrignally supposed to be released in Japan named Ark Hound that is the the 2 main charcacters from super c and contra were replaced with 4 different characters but brought back in contra 3 so this is game is shit!

I know what I'm talking about because I worked at nestopia and I am a pro at nes emulation.

I've personally worked at nestopia to make it emulate this game perfectly and I've played this game until it started working at native parameters.

It might have lagged on some consoles but the cartridge itself did no lag by default.

Emulators are meant to allow you to play original games better than on the consoles!

This was released at the twilight of the NES in limited quantities because it was poorly received even before it came out (during an E3 show back then). The question back then was that after the world loved "Contra III" for the SNES, why in the heck Konami decided to release this? This is the least remembered Contra installment.
