You have a great collection, im 13 and have been collecting for 6 years, my favorite coin in my collection would have to be my capped bust half dollar, or my liberty seated dollar. Whats your most valuable coin?
I just weighed my Franklin half dollars and Kennedy 1964 half dollars. The mint says the weight is 12.50g (I know this can vary). The size matches up on all of my coins and the majority are in the 12.45-12.55g range but some came in as high as 12.67g or as low as 12.3g. Any thoughts?
That's a very interesting analysis. I'm not quite sure what to make of it because I have never weighed my coins, as I do not have a scale. The only thing that I can think of is that durring the manufacturing of the blanks the metal was rolled thinner or thicker than was originally intended and when the blanks were punched from the strip you have either over- or under-weight blanks. The other possibility for the under-weight coins is the possibility of wear.
Honestly, I don't know. The best advice I can offer you is to get a current price guide such as A Guide Book to United States Coins by R.S. Yeoman and see what you can afford to collect.
I look up to you i wish i had some nice coins i have lots of junk silver and only compleat set i have it state quarters in bu i do have the2 009 and 2007 presidentle dollars proof sets and all the dolors out now in bu
did you know in early november 1963 they made 1964 dated franklin half dollars but in december 1963 they were all melted,i know this because a friend of mine worked at the mint at that time,if any got out of the mint they be worth a small fortune.
God what set don't you have complete lol. in BU condition too! Do these sets take a long time to build or do u buy the set complete? And how do u get the money are u a coin dealer or something bcuz u have basically every coin set that a person could possibly ask for
I've been collecting for over 10 years. It's a hobby. I have put lots of time and devotion into it. I'm glad others can appreciate all the work I have put in. The only set I ever bought complete was the Roosevelt dime set. All others were built by me. Some can take a day and others take years. My Type Set is now 7 years in the process.
I bought all the American Eagles in one day. Depends on the set and the quailty you are looking for. A good set will take years to make.
These all came from a local coin shop. Online coins are usually problem coins or over priced. Coin shows are also another great option for finding nice coins.
My favorite coin! Thanks for sharing!

Great collection! I'm still working on mine in bu. Just a quick question not to be rude but what did your entire set cost you or it's value now?

Same for the 1964 Peace Dollar. They were supposedly all melted at the Denver Mint, but at least One might have escaped the melting pot.
