Why do we even care what religion or government thinks about our relationships? Get government out of marriage and we will all be better off. More freedom for everyone. Government free marriage now!
The fact of the matter is this. 5 times the issue of Gay marriage was put forth for the citizens of the state to vote on. and 5 times it was voted down. Finally the Dem's decided to avoid those pesky citizens and just make it law. And the Gov who promised in his Campaign he wold never sign, signed it. Yeah I know silly me for actually thinking a liberal would keep their word. No thank god the Citizens still have a recourse here. Nov this will be repealed. then the crying will begin.
5 AM here on the East coast (Maine) and no one to rebuke what I posted??? Well I guess the Liberal hacks turned in early. I look forward to many personal attacks.
@ bigdogphoto: You are confusing a religious ceremony (which has no legal standing) with a civil marriage (which the government supports). Gay couples are NOT fighting for the religious ceremony.
I also find it ironic when you say, "Boo Hoo, life isn't fair or equal." You're a married straight man. You're NOT being discriminated against. In fact, you're the one doing the discriminating. By denying people equal rights based solely on their sexual orientation, you are a bigot and a homophobe.
Boo Hoo, life isn't fair or equal. I want to have a harem but my wife won't let me. Just another example of liberals inability to discriminate between what is a traditional God given sacrament and a living arrangement/civil commitment between two adults. Socialists, Marxists don't like to use the word God since they believe all rights come from government and not from God.
Overwhelming majority my ass. The citizens with common sense with be signing the petitions to put gay marriage on the ballot were it will be voted down.
Here's the thing: Chellie Pingree has not introduced, or co-sponsored, ANY legislation in the House of Representatives to legalize same-sex marriage. Why? When will her actions match her words?
I am still waiting for equality under the law in my home state of Oregon. My husband and I will celebrate 15 years together this year and even though we have domestic partnership and living wills - we are vulnerable.
The Federal Government doesn't recognize gay marriage nor does it recognize the "compromises" of civil unions/domestic partnership.
Thank you congresswoman for speaking out. Your leadership and compassion makes it easier to bear our long struggle for fairness.
