  • I recently saw WICKED but we had Bert Newton, well we didn't, we had his understudy because he had pneumonia, but I watched your videos of Rob Guest and he looked like he would play such a good wizard and it is truly such a shame that us Perthians couldn't get to see his talent. RIP.

  • NOOOOO!!! I didn't get to see 'Wicked' yet... ;~;

It sucks being a poor college student.

  • Poor Guy

  • I... I'm gobsmacked. I don't know what rock I've been living under but this has broken my heart.

I've had the beautiful opportunity of spending alot of time with he and his pianist during a solo show and he was indeed a funny, gorgeous and beautiful hearted man.

Off to have a belated cry.

  • hi, i have seen the phantom of the opera about two times - both with Rob Guest playing the phantom. A one-of-a-kind performer who's skill on the stage will be incredibly hard to live up to. To the family and cast, best of luck for the future. take care. :) :)

  • It's hard to believe it as nearly been a year!!! xxx

  • The good die young. RIP xoxo

  • xxx

  • Rob-No one can say how much you've changed wicked's life. You changed it. For good.

  • Nice xxx

  • It must have been incredibly difficult for the cast to carry on with the show that night. It must have been like losing a family member. To work so hard on the role and to have it cut short, only mere months after opening night was so cruel. RIP Rob. You'll be with us like a hand print on our hearts.... For Good

  • Lovely comment-thanks xxx

  • RIP

  • xxx

  • I went to Australia for an international exchange in January and spent a weekend in Melbourne in April where I saw WICKED for the first time. The show was fabulouso and I can't believe this happened mere months before. Give my regards to the family, friends and cast for me.

  • May you rest in peace Rob

He was a great man and a great performer!

I happened to be at the matinee performance on the Wednesday also to come home and hear the news that the reason for having missed the performance was a stroke. I was devastated for him and his family. I feel blessed that I'd thankfully seen his performance a couple months earlier in Wicked. He may be from New Zealand but he'll always be our Wonderful Wizard of OZ!!!

  • You worded that so beautifully-thank-you xxxxxxx

  • he was a wonderful musician. he had a good life, and I'm sure he would have been happy finishing his life in such a great musical. May he rest in peace. xx

  • Yes- when he did the You Tube with me he told me how much he LOVED playing the Wizard and what an interesting integral character he found him to be xxxxxxx

  • hi =]

i was really sad to find out rob had passed away. i saw wicked in july and met him at the stage door and got photos and stuff and he was just so lovely, you know?

i feel so lucky to have seen him perform, he was truly 'wonderful'.

i cant imagine how hard it is for his family and the cast - i wish them all the best - keep performing but, you're all amazing.

    thanks =]

    emma xx

  • Thanks Emma- i agree-it would be very difficult but Rob would be the first to tell them to get on with it all!!! xxxxxxx

  • I was lucky enough to be at Rob's last performance on Sunday 28th September - there's no other way to describe how I feel other than spellbound - the cast fills their roles more than perfectly and coveys the story so beautifully.

My desire to act has been reignited, and moreso by Rob's passing.

To all Rob's family, friends and the cast, ye have my love and best wishes for the future.

Thank ye also to Suzie Howie for answering my emails and passing them on to the cast backstage.

    Laneth.

  • I live in the United Sates, so I never got the privelige to see him perform, but I did see him sing "A Sentimental Man" on a TV interview here on Youtube. He is amazing, and will greatly be missed! All love goes to his family, who must be having the hardest time right now!

    R.I.P. Rob Guest

  • Thank-you. I learned a lot more about him at the memorial too yesterday-it was lovely xxxxxxx

  • I was heaps upset when I heard he passed away. I saw him in the Phantom of the Opera when I was 7, and then I saw him in Wicked in July. He was an AWESOME performer! And also, thanks for uploading the video of the Wicked cast singing at his memorial - I saw photos of them on news websites, and I was searching and searching for a video, so thanks heaps!!

  • That is a pleasure-thanks xxxxxxx

  • i saw him in wicked he was amazing im so sad for the loss he seemed like a really great guy

  • Yes-he was lovely xxxxx

  • RIP Rob.

  • Thanks xxx

  • sore rob on this "is your life" he will be a grate loss

  • Yes-i heard that was on in NZ the week before he passed away. xxxxxx

  • I would just like to say that I feel extremely honoured and priviledged to have seen Rob Guest perform in the Phantom, not once but twice. He was absolutely magnificent and had such amazing stage presence. I also saw him in concert when he toured NZ a few years ago and that was a wonderful show as well, his voice was still just as powerful. A wonderful entertainer and a lovely, lovely man. So very very sad and a huge loss to Musical Theatre. My heart goes out to his family and friends xxxx

  • That's awesome -thanks x

  • R.I.P. Rob Guest.

Every inch a star but still a generous, decent man.

  • Thanks xxxxx

  • Met Rob in the beginning of his oz Career in Les Miserables. He was indeed a talented, carismatic bigger than life man.. and a good bloke! If he called you a friend.you were! I've met a zillion people in this business and he was a stand out..a true gentleman..he was CLASS. Professional! I'm happy to say that we were friends..like indeed I was with Judy and I want to send my love and light to all that loved him... .. One more day... wish you had it. love Glenda x

  • Thanks Glenda xxxxxxx

  • I was lucky enough to have seen him several times as the Wizard. He was so talented and seemed like a really good person, still so young. I'm sad that we won't see him on stage any more, but my thoughts are with his family and friends.

I saw Wicked again last Saturday. The show went on and the cast performed so well, as I believe he'd have wanted.

  • Thanks xxxxxx

  • I'm so sad to hear of Rob's passing. I'm from America, so I never got to actually see him. However I've been a fan of his for several years now. I've seen many videos of his performances. He is so brilliant! I was so excited when I heard he would be playing the wizard in Wicked. I only wish I would have had a chance to see him live. He was a wonderful man and will be truly missed! My prayers are with the family, friends, and cast members. Much love from America!

  • Thanks for your comment all the way from the States xxxxxx

  • I was so sad when I first found this, still am. My prayers go to his family.

  • Thanks xxxxxxx

  • My daughter was particularly shocked by the news. She has performed in the last two summer shows up on the coast and Rob had been a guest lecturer. Having him so close in lecture and then seeing him in Sweeney Todd and Wicked, she often spoke of him as almost a friend even though they never actually spoke. As with a lot of young performers, he was definitely her number one theatrical mentor.

  • I totally understand what you mean- i only met him a few times, but he was just such a nice person, he was someone you just wanted to be friends with. xxxxxxx

  • A very sad loss, but as Rob would likely say himself. The show must go on.

Saw him just last month in Melbourne and thought he was brilliant. Also saw him in Sweeney Todd on the Gold Coast. I feel extremely fortunate to have seen these two recent performances. He was an Aussy Icon, even if he wasn't born here. He has left an extraordinary legacy to Australian theatre.

  • Yes-i think he would say that too...an odd story in The Age today about how Amanda's (Elphaba's) mechanics in Defying Gravity didn't work a couple of performances ago!!! Everyone felt it was Rob playing tricks!!! I think so too xxxxx

  • We saw Wicked on Wednesday, after his stroke but before he died....at the time we didn't know. The cast did brilliantly, but it was so emotional, we wondered why. Now knowing why I would like to say that they are true professionals and should be so proud of themselves for such carriage in a difficult time. We were sad to have missed Rob's performance, and his talent will live on the lives of those who he touched.

  • Wow!!! I can imagine! Rob was so fabulous in the role of the Wizard. Thanks xxxxxx

  • ahh i saw wicked a few months back and my family and i adore rob guest...what a sad loss :( he was and will always be amazing, RIP <3

  • Thanks Sophie xxxxxxxxxx

  • Unfortunately I saw Wicked two performances after his last. The show was great but there was an air of sadness. Sympathies to the family and cast.

  • I can imagine the air would have been charged with emotion xxxxxx

  • R.I.P. I'm so glad that I was fortunate enough to see him in Wicked. A outstanding performer, and a lovely man. I wish his family all the best.

  • Thanks Michelle xxxxxx

  • Thanks jewelchic. I bawled all day on thursday on my last day in victoria. Thanks for organising this. Such a great idea to spread the word about Rob.xx

  • I am happy to be able to do it-thanks xxxxxxxx

  • Only two months ago did I give mr. Guest a high five. I am a 14-year-old musical lover and it is quite admorable that if someone in musical theatre passes away, whomever they were, whatever they did, everybody would miss them. I find it quite upsetting that he passed away, but it has taught me a lesson to cherish each moment with everyone you meet in musical theatre..even if they are a complete stranger. Rob Guest is such an impact in the history of australian musical theatre.

  • I LOVE your story-thanks for sharing it with us!!! xxxxxxxx

  • i was very shocked to find that an unexpected stroke caused Rob guest to die. Unbelievable! I was very expected to see WICKED on Broadway. RIP Mr. Guest!

ALos, thank you Jewelchic for us paying a tribute for Mr Gurst.

  • A pleasure Daz-thanks xxx

  • No worries, Megan!

you know, The best thing that i like about Youtube is like you can feel free to discuss anything you like about what's happening at this moment and also you can give your own opinions.

I like the way you presented about your sympathy of Guest's death. Maybe I should do one too! too bad i don't have a video camera.

  • You know, you go out and see these people every night, singing and dancing and looking so alive--you never think that you could come back the next day and they'll be gone. It just reminds you how out of control everything really is; how unfair, too.

  • To all those who knew--know--him: take pride in that. Be proud that you DID know him and love him. Because I look at the comments, I read what real people are thinking and saying, and I see the way he has affected so many lives so greatly. Isn't it lucky that you were there to experience him first-hand, his beautiful light, his charm, his wit, his joy, his sorrow, his passion? Isn't it lucky that you touched him, held him, looked him in the eyes, sang with him, to him?

    Isn't it lucky?

  • Thanks for your lovely comment xxxxxx

  • Hi.I was priveliged enough to work with Rob in the Sound of Music in Brisbane in 2000 when i played Marta Vin Trapp. I saw WICKED on the sunday, his last performance. I waited outside the stage door but it took too long so we left figuring i would see him some other time. Well thats not how it turned out and now that is the biggest mistake i ever made in my life. If you see Kellie Dickerson please tell her that Emily Ginnivan sends her best wishes and that i will miss rob so much. Love Emily xxx

  • Emily- i PROMISE the family will see all these messages. I was so sad to hear that story you told-what an absolute shame. However- how lucky you were to be in Sound of Music with him-that would have been an awesome experience xxxxxxx

  • that is so awful :( He seems like such a nice guy! I saw the video where he was talking about how Glinda was his daughter in one play and then love interest in another and someone cut in and said they were like the girls sister and you guys were like so that would make you, he seemed like an amazing man and that's sad that he passed away,

  • Thanks Samantha xxxxxxx

  • Thanks Megan, I'm still in shock, he was a wonderful talented man and a great mentor and made some great friendships in the cast of Wicked he will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of first seeing him in Phantom and now in Wicked, he was wonderful in both.

My heart goes out to Kellie Dickerson and his family, and of course his Wicked family, stay strong.
