I understand the argument, too, but it still doesn't detract from his skill. I saw a list of the 100 all time best country guitarists, and they had him listed at #50. To be considered #50 out of all country guitarists is doing pretty well for yourself.
And you can say that there are better people playing in bars. Yeah.... probably. But that's in every profession. We all know somebody that's amazing that never gets recognition. So what?
1. This video is horrible quality and doesn't do Paisley's playing justice.
2. I can see both sides of the main argument here but I also think most of you are being too radical in your criticisms/praises.
3. Paisley is extraordinarily talented and a phenomenal guitarist even though his sound is "sproingy." That doesn't detract from the actual skill, because that's how it is supposed to sound.
4. That said, Paisley is definitely not the best ever. There are plenty of better players out there.
"The most talented & amazing man that ever lived...". That would be true if nobody else, past or present had ever picked up a guitar. He's talented, without a doubt, I'll give you that.
I agree with TheAxe. I have tried many times to like Paisley because he is so popular, but I just find him average. I would much rather listen to Hag, Cash, Willie, Waylon and Strait then listen to him.
As far as his guitar.....every act out there that plays guitar plays just as good as him and there are alot of players in back up bands that can play better then him.
Paisley's one of the cleanest guitarists I've ever seen. I'm not much of a country fan, but I haven't seen many locals anywhere that come close to his type of chops. He's not a virtuosic master like Chet Atkins, but he's a beast on the six string.
Ridiculous to say there are tons of bar bands that blow him out of the water. Let's see some evidence...
@EnglishSteel2347 he always sound like he's playing rubber bands to me ...he is way too sproingy for my taste..there are several unknown nashville guitarists that could make him put the guitar back on the stand ..even he would tell you that.
come to nashville and see firsthand every night..pick your bar
"The most talented and amazing man that ever lived"? What? Really? That's reaching pretty far to try to put musical mediocrity on a pedastal. Just another example of an over hyped, over produced pop music so-called "artist". This crap isn't even real country music. Let's be honest and truthful, it just sounds like you have a wide on for this guy.
@TheAxe4Ever "So-called 'artist'"? Seriously dude, I'm not country lover, and I know that he's not "the most talented and amazing man that ever lived", but I guarantee you that he could put a lot of highly skilled virtuosos to shame. Just because he plays country music doesn't mean that he isn't a good musician by any means.
@TheDominator7290 Well "dude". I never said that someone who plays country isn't a good musician. In fact, there have been MANY country musicians, TRUE country musicians, not this pop, bubblegum crap that's out now, that are some of the best musicians ever. Danny Gatton, Roy Clark, Chet Atkins, hell, I could go on and on. Those are the real talented country musicians. I love country music. The real stuff is very challenging. But the fact is, guys like this are still over hyped garbage. IMO
@mitman617 Well let's just say we completely disagree. One of the best of all time. I'll ask you the same as you asked me, Are you kidding me? Don't feel bad though, most people have a narrow view of true musicianship. Most like you just follow the current fads. That's cool. You keep the crooked record industry and the crap music video, flavor of the month radio stations rich.Brad Paisley could'nt carry my guitar hero's guitar picks. He's average at best. I've heard bar bands that are better.
@joedeertey I see the very weak point you're trying to make. As I've stated before, I know guitarists in MANY "bar bands" that blow Paisley out of the water. Just because you're making big money with a label, does'nt mean you're the best or even good. It just means you have something (not neccesarily musical) that's marketable. Paisley in point. Most, if not all of the country legends paid their dues in "bar bands". That's where you hone your chops. You're point is useless and laughable.
@jahyke And? I've seen it many, many times. While I'll admit it's adequate playing, my original point still stands. I saw a band in my local watering hole last weekend where this guy who must've been about 60 years old, blow Paisley's "Nervous Breakdown" out the water. They played 4 sets for over 4 hours and still kicked ass in the last set. I hate to be a downer, but there are TONS of players out there that are unknown and absolutely incredible players. So to call him the best is ludicrous.
Ya'll shut the hell up and listen to the freakin music. Actin like a bunch of little kids...

Compared to what gets radio play, he's fucking excellent. Half these people need to pull the stick out of their asses.
