Interesting to note that most japanese don't have a religous life. In general they just turn to buddhism when it comes to funeral and death related things. In life they tend to turn to shinto, mainly for asking worldly things, and praticipating in festivals (matsuri). According to researchs only about 30% really do have a religious life!

I have worked in Saudi Arabia, I came across and English gentleman from Stoke in UK. He was a regular at the local mosque even more dedicated than I, a born muslim.

Islam should, in someways come more natural to them.

I also believe brother Tony has a point, Islam spreading to Japan in large numbers can only come about from a higher level of exposure to the religion. Politically speaking I know the previous/present Japanese government fears Islamic influence to some extent, as immigration by Muslims to Japan is sadly looked down upon.
