Just a question, if the 9-3 has a CAN interface, and you're plugging it into a laptop already, then why don't you just display the data on the computer instead of your dash?
I updated the description to link to my site for more information. Basically you need a CAN adapter to interface to the Saab I-Bus and a laptop with a application that sends and receives messages from the bus. The adapter costs about 160 EUR, my software is freeware with source code included. You can use other CAN adapters than the one I used, but you would need to modify the application to support your adapters drivers.

you have to have the comp. hooked up the whole time?

Yes, you need a computer or a custom microcontroller board talking to the SID, just like the other Saab control units are doing.
