  • out of curioisty how much cost on a phone line does playing an average duke nukem match cost?

  • i think its awesome that even in now days you got this set up lol

  • I Like the Xband Menu music when you go to the Netlink opsion

  • thanks again man

  • yea it would be epic! but if you have 2 line on 1 phone number... like when you can answer when you have someone else on the line.... could you dial at you own house? to play as lan? but it would hold up the line....

  • @alexjseguin You would have to have two different phone lines at your house. And they'd have to be regular old analog phone lines nothing digital or through your cable provider will work. But the NEtlink works just like makign a phone call...you have to dial and the other one has to answer it like a regular phone call.

  • if you want to play with someone that is close to you, like not a long distance, it's completely free right?

  • @alexjseguin Exactly. As long as they're in the same area code it's 100% free. Now this route is a little expensive but it's kind of cool. You can buy or if you're really good with electronics build a Phone Line Simulator. It's basically a one number phone system in a box. It will let one saturn dial another Saturn and you can do that to set up a "system link" or LAN match. But youd' have to have Two Saturns, two Netlinks, two copies of the game and two TVs all set up in one room.

  • @JerryTerrifying omg that's perfect!!!!!!! i just got a saturn and my friend is hunting for one because we want to play netlink ect.... but we were wondering if we could use it in a lan set up... did you build a phone line simulator?

  • @alexjseguin I personally have not done this. Someone at saturnleague (dot) com bought one on ebay for around $80 which was a bit of luck as those things are usually WAY more expensive. There are schematics out there to build one yourself but you really need to know what you're doing as you're dealing with a lot of voltage and you don't want to burn your house down :D So if you live in the same Area code you're good...but LAN matching with Netlink would be epic.

  • OK Jerry, I have a question for you. Have you ever played games like Duke Nukem 3D or Quake with the Netlink keyboard and mouse? I'd like to know if that will work instead of using the Saturn controllers. Oh, and I probably said this already, but AWESOME video! I'm at a loss as to what to use to record gameplay footage, but I would love to show off what I have.

  • Me and my friend played Duke Nukem a lot on net link back in the day. Sucked that only me and him only in the area back then with a saturn. Very under rated system.

  • Virtual on looks realy cool! :D

is there any version for the old xbox?

    :)

  • @GAMERSHARK100 for the old one?

I don't think so but thy released it on the XBLA

  • @GAMERSHARK100 there is for the xbox 360

  • So do you have dialup internet?

  • @TheContradictator Nope. You don't need an internet connection to play Netlink games. Netlink Modem A dials Netlink modem B. It's a direct modem to modem connection over an analog phone line.

  • Sorry in advance for my bad english

I read about the Sega Net Link on Sega Saturn in a french Mag (Mega Force Mag). I hoped so much that this system appeared one day in Europe, but it never comed.... Same for Sega Meganet on Megadrive (Sega Channel on Genesis in USA ? ), never come in Europe. Finally, we had Dreamarena on Dreamcast (with 33.6k modem here). Thank you for your video :)

  • And there I was thinking that the Dreamcast was the first console to support network play over phone lines! Awesome vid btw.

  • @jkage198 Google Xband. They're the company that made the Netlink but before that they made modems for the Genesis and SNES. With those though they did connect to the internet, found an opponent, then disconnected from the server and direct dialed them. So without the servers to connect to and download the patches for the games its impossible to get those to work. but it still makes for some good reading. :D

  • Delicious video. Thank you so much.

  • @jotenko No problem, glad you liked it!

  • does this work in the uk??

  • @cutkolgamer744 If you have an analog phone line, Two Sega Saturns, two Netlink modems and two copies of the US Netlink version game you want to play and a friend that you can call that's not long distance or have unlimited long distance, sure.

  • Epic doco Jerry!

  • @bencheshire Thank you kind sir. :D

  • Awesome stuff!

  • @radcrap It really is...I'm a huge fan of the Saturn and Netlinking!

  • Sega Saturn. Happy memories. Thanks for uploading this video.

  • Great vid man. It's allways good to watch new stuff about Saturn and his accessories. Does NetLink works with PAL consoles?

  • @Scarecrow6060 The Netlink will only work with the US games so you'd have to region Mod your Saturn or import a US Saturn. And you'd have to have a friend willing to do the same so you can play against them. But as long as you've got a regular old fashioned telephone line it should work anywhere in the world. You'd just need the US hardware and the US software.

  • could hardly hear you what u said while playing the second game.

  • @Derek105Huey Shit that is pretty bad. I'll see if I can't fix it. Haha people are going to start getting pissed at me uploading so many versions of the netlink video.

  • @JerryTerrifying but anyway GREAT video it was fun. sry for the complaint lol.

  • @Derek105Huey It's ok it was a very legit complaint. I didn't notice how bad it was. Lets blame Virtual On for being to loud. :D

  • @Callia123 Yeah I have no idea if they're saying maybe or baby or something else all together.

  • Excellent vid Jerry! To be good at Sega Rally you need to either tap the D pad to steer, or if going around harder corners hold it just long enough to get the car to drift out, let off the steering altogether, and then start to counter steer when you want to straighten up again or enter another corner. Playing the arcade version is quite difficult however...

  • i always enjoy the netlink videos :D

  • @DragonHunterG I was never happy with the last one. so I put this together and am much much happier with it. :D

  • that was some pretty epic rowbot playing

  • Very cool! a really interesting use for the Saturn.

  • Thanks mate, this video must have taken ages to make and upload!

    Cheers.

  • @NeonGenesisPlatinum Thanks! It's the first time I spent time planning, scripting and editing a video. So I'm kind of proud of it. :D

  • @JerryTerrifying You should be, it's awesome!

  • I love the Saturn, thanks for the upload.

  • Sweet and awesome review. Jerry T, the man who knows his Saturn. (How many do you have, now?)
