The punk rock movement died with death pop and emo. Luckly there are indie bands who are willing to pick up the pieces and make some great music out of it. The Strokes early stuff sounds a hell of a lot like the misfits. With baritone vocels and punkish style riffs the strokes have a lot more in common with the misfits then any metal or emo band that i've heard. I love that Jim Morrison baritone style of singing. It's almost like the crooning singers of the 40's. It's cool and deep

People forget that the genre originated with bands like Embrace which then it was referred to as emocore. Now I have nothing but respect for Ian Mackaye, I'm really sorry they ever did give one of his bands that label, especially when you look at the bands of today with that same label and are nothing like punk.

The Misfits are credited a lot for different kinds of metal. I never got that, because nothing in there style ever showed any hint of metal any way. There lyrics are dark and death is there favorite topic, but they do it in a way that screams punk rock in every way. The have a kind of cool about them that was totally lost when it comes to death and speed metal. New or Old misfits it does not matter they are a straight forward punk band.
