Did anyone actually like the new Conan Movie? Ive never seen it, but did grow up with the original 2 along with arnies other well non stuff (didnt really like the second, i dunno if had a lower budget but film just seemed reedy and cheap, though may have had potential didnt deliver (yes im aware that Conan 1 owes a lot to its music)

Frankly i don't see why people hate the new Conan.

The New Conan is exactly as Howards described him in his novels, on the contrary of Arnold(even if Arny was good for the role at the time)

So what for?,the story?,even the first conan scenario was a patchwork of Howards novels,with scenes taken from one story to another to make a full scenario

The bit where Valeria says that she will come back from the darkness,comes form the Queen of the Dark coasts,the Tower scene from the Tower of the Elephan

And so on,in the books there is no mention of Conan village beeing destroyed,while it is the thing that drives Conan during the movie and there is a tone more of examples like that

Even in the new Conan there is bits from here and there from the various Howards novels.

So why the hate?

To me its the exact same thing as the first Conan,a really good action packed movie set in a violent and mature world,the only difference is that the new Conan musical score while good,isn't at the lvl of the 1st

@Mugthraka Peformance. Direction. Theme. An epic vision. It's not just how close the actor looks to the novels. Arnold, like him or not, has a presence, it's why he got parts and not some other body builder (many others tried through the years). Arnold "felt" like Conan... and movie had a barbaric feel and theme. It's not how dark his hair is or how accurate the special effects are.

Bad idea to remake Conan -- GOOD idea to support Jason Momoa. He was as fierce in Game of Thrones as Khal Drogo as Arnold was as Conan -- the remake just didn't live up to the challenge... but you can't fault one young actor, trying to make his mark. Regardless, long live Crom!

Let's compare and contrast the two movies, One is attempting to be faithful to the original stories and pay tribute to the arnold movies with a couple of references. The other borrows too much from Kull, a Conan that berely talked was a slave who bowed to Kings had a Short bladed Long Sword that lets face it looks retarded in this picture. But Conan 82 was still a good fantasy adventure film with a kicking score and good direction. It just sucks they couldnt of based it more on Conan.
