Ohhh that's great!!! **Clapping for Cleo** My little Missy says "Uh-Oh" really well. She has also picked up "You okay?" I couldn't figure out what she was saying for the longest time. I knew it wasn't a sound she picked up from the birds outside the window or the t.v., but eventually I figured it out. I always say to her "You okay?", without really realizing it. Then one day she repeated it back after I said it, and the riddle was solved... Makes me laugh when she says it.
when i put my lovebird on a pile of legos just sitting on the floor he likes to fluff up and act like he's gunna bite you if you try to grab one and he makes growling noises like he's saying "no mine!" sooo cuuuuuute!
i have the same one she likes to tear paper and put it on its back like feathers ? lol and it bites so much like get close to its cage and it will run and bite you
@ferociousgumby Lovebirds do not sound the same as budgies. Their capabilities to talk are VERY limited, but lovebird owners certainly know the difference between chirping and talking. Cleo is (to the best of her ability) mimicking things I say and do often. And it is not common to see a lovebird talk at all.
@lostinvast Cleo is an amazing talker. My Lovebirds also talk more than my budgies do, I was so surprised to hear them talk because my budgies haven't learned any words. I think Lovebirds are really great talkers, even if they aren't as "clear" as a budgie voice. :)
My lovebird makes so many different sounds, chirps, clicks, grunts, screams, sweet little peeps, distress-calls (to get my attention), whistles (usually on one note, and he stops when I come in the room), clacks, and a few more. I want to teach him a simple "hello", and he tilts his head all over the place when I say it as if he wants to repeat it back to me, but so far no dice.
@ferociousgumby They're a lot smarter than we give them credit for, aren't they? I was shocked that Cleo was able to say the handful of words she knows! It's a pleasant surprise to hear it. At first I wasn't sure it was more than just a noise she makes, but after I say a certain word, she will repeat it in her lovebird language. Especially my sneezes! She's a little comedian.
WOW I'm just fascinated!!!! How did you learned your lovebird to talk like that at the end? I mean not the sound imitating what he first did.. My bird does that too.. (imitating)
@Missusakli I wish I knew! I just have several key phrases that I have repeated to Cleo since she was a baby. I suppose some are easier for her to mimic than others. Stop it, and step up are VERY clear, much moreso than her other talking, which people who don't own lovebirds can easily mistake for chatter. She's a smart one :)
@ferociousgumby My lovebird and budgie visit for a little while every day, a half-hour max. They do not fight. Then again, I would never keep them together long enough to let that happen. And never unsupervised.
Its funny, my friend has a cockatiel that can only curse. her way of saying 'hi' is 'F*ck You!' She even burps and farts because her previous home was a bar xD
@lukeskywak34 You should not put them in the same cage. No matter how tame the love bird is they're much more aggressive than other birds. I know this out of experience, so please don't do it.
@lukeskywak34 agreed with HeroinFairie. I only allow "supervised visits" with my birds, and more often in the budgie's cage, because she is not aggressive at all, and wouldn't try and protect her toys. Lovebirds are notorious for being bullies, and they live up to their reputations. I'd definitely keep them separate unless they're just playing together for a little while and you're keeping a close eye on things.
i have the same lovebird as you but they wont talk

I don't know if this is true, but I've heard that if you put a budgie and a lovebird in the same cage, the lovebird will kill the budgie.
