This was the movie that even my non-TREK fan friends wanted to see when it came out. Haha!! It was epic on the big screen. This is STAR TREK. Not that crap J.J. Abrams churned out.
@xerobane I've read the design of the E-E was kept a secret until just before release, but if you look carefully all the battle scenes are from previous films (with some elements altered) - this was the "teaser", and it's very likely the SFX weren't completed in time for it.
@scarred2112: I agree. They're all from other Star Trek movies or TV episodes and the music was (I think) from Star Trek VI. But if they wanted to keep the Sovereign a secret, they STILL let it slip through the editing cracks. At 0:50 on the video, you can see a schematic of the Sovereign-class Enterprise on the wall in the bridge. Only for like a second but its funny that they tried SO hard to keep the design a secret that even the trailer was probably heavily edited and supervised.
the first 30 seconds of the video are a masterpiece of drama and buildup of the movies setting, the theme from st6 plus the fade done to the "best of both worlds" track were the enterprise encounters the borg cube and you finally get what it is about! as the queen would say: "perfection"
The movie could have been done better more epic but I suppose one can't complain too much or we wouldn't have had a trek movie with the Borg still I was expecting more instead of a ship in the bottle movie!
The script should have been based off the Giant Novel Vendetta where the TNG crew encounter a bigger, meaner and far more advanced version of the Planetkiller from TOS which is piloted by a woman seeking revenge against the Borg. Lots of space battle action and good sub-plots (Picard has a strange soulmate-esqe relationship with the woman and tries to get her to abandon her plan; Geordi tries to restore a female drone to normal but has nothing but trouble).
*facepalming at all the complaining* it was a teaser trailer. I'm guessing many of the effects shots for the movie weren't even done yet, thus why they reused scenes from the series. I do have to laugh at the putting Voyager over the scene from BOBW. Don't know why they didn't just use the original scene. I guess it doesn't matter, it still got me pumped up, anyway.
I wasn't even that big a Star Trek fan back then but this trailer always got me hype as hell. It was the first trailer on the Mission Impossible tape.
@TURBODORK2 Yeah, there appears to be a shot there from Generations; looks like the Duras sisters' Bird-of-Prey firing disruptors through the D's shields.
@ReadmanJ look at the markings. they failed...its voyager. :/ I'm glad they edited this in the final cut because that would be stupid to have that large of a continuity error.
whatever happened to the last part? i remember it ended like this "on november 22nd resistance is futile... Star Trek:First Contact" but in every clip i see that part is missing
whatever happened to the last part? i remember it ended like this "on november 22nd resistance is futile... Star Trek:First Contact" but in every clip i see that part is missing
Wow Oh wow this was the very first Star Track preview for the new movie I saw. It was on my tape for FACE/OFF i think. or some other movie around that time. MAy Bee the relic. I cannot remember. But yes indeed the first BORG theme from TNG was top top top of the pops.
Random starfleet member: Looks like they control decks 26 up to 11.
Worf: They have assimilated more than have the ship.
Who? Black women? Damn you Oprah! Stop sending your minions back in time to enslave humanity! We gave you the 13th amendment... what more do you want?!?
It seems they hadn't finished doing the effects for this film when they decided to put the trailer togethor so had to use snippets from the Borg episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager. I'm sure I saw a couple of clips from Generations in there too.
@DarkAngel182 I don't think the voyager scene came from any real episode. Maybe it was some kind of fx shot they made up for the show. Still makes no sense here though.
Wow! A lot of footage from Best of Both Worlds! Crusher with a phaser, the Enterprise D getting sliced open (actually, that might be from "Q Who?") and it goes on. A great teaser in my opinion...it looked like, six years after Best of Both Worlds, it might finally get the sequel it truly deserved.
Incidentally, they should have released the edited TV movie version of Best of Both Worlds with this so one could watch both on the big screen, one after another.
Looks like a random gluing together of images. Voyager ontop of the original Enterprise D from the shot from Best of Both Worlds. I havent one good idea why they would do that, except to try to be stupid.
Nothing wrong with the trailer, just didnt have enough footage yet and they needed it ready to put in front Independence Day summer of 1996. Its almost better than that whole movie.
This trailer was so weird!! They used clips from STVII and clips from the TNG series. At :35 they show a scene from "All Good Things..." With the USS Pasteur blowing up, then they show the Enterprise D which was destroyed in STVII and then they start showing all these different clips from STVII. Anyone know what the scene at 1:00 is from? First Contact was by far the best film from the TNG series though.
You are wrong my friend. Go look again and pause this video right at :59 seconds actually. This is definitely 100% NOT from ST Generations. Look at the saucer section of this ship. It is clearly some kind of older Federation ship from the Kirk days. The registry looks like it says NCC-310? something. Is it the USS Reliant from STII maybe??
the close up on geordis eyes in in the film =- at the part where reg barclay shakes cochranes hand geordie says ' Yeah reg , but you'll need to re-inforce this copper tubing with......'
I'm VERY glad they changed the way he says "the line must be drawn here!", this version doesn't deliver well at all compared to his final version, has so much... 'oomph' to it :D
Man, I remember watching this on my computer back in 1996 before it came out. I was so pumped for the movie, and it didn't disappoint (just watched it earlier today on blu-ray, in fact). But yeah, I assume they stitched-in all those other clips because maybe they hadn't completed the post-production fx yet.
Where does this clip of the Voyager fighting the Borg come from? Its obviously not from the Series, when this teaser was made VOY was in the third season.
if you look closer, the borg is attacking the galaxy class enterprise-d in half of them. this is because back in generations you still had the enterprise-d, so this film would be the first time you'd be seeing the enterprise-e
Those were test shots of the VFX they were planning on using, they just used Voyager as a stand-in, as the Ent E hadn't been completed. Also, if you look at the cube, it isn't the cube from the film, nor the television show. There is another test shot of the cube just before the Voyager shot, but it is from a cube design that didn't make it in the film.
First off I really don't like this trailer lol ... seems like they spliced it together in about 2 hours. Secondly, anyone who's watched the movie notice how that one bridge officer claims the Borg control decks 26-11, but later in the movie Picard says the ship only has 24 decks? Gotta love Star Trek but you'd think they'd at least try and be more consistent ....
the borg sounds like republicans....sorry...I had to say it. I like all cultures and religions, and just feel that way. I apologize for bringing up politics...I just had to say that.
Yeah because we Republicans are totally amassing numbers right? We're just totally the ones that had hordes of zombies go to the polls and vote for a guy, and now many of them are starting to see cracks in their decision. You know what I think? All you jackasses that bash Republicans and Conservatives have no understanding of a damn thing in life, except how to bitch at the powers that be. I give Obama and the democrats till 2010, and then all of you assholes will change to a different tune.
Well, you hate-filled repressed hypocritical slime have done your best to destroy the country over the last 8 years, so I'd say Obama et all should have more than 2 to try and fix hate.
Maybe Ja-HEZ-us will save us. Or rich white crooks. Ah, just bomb us back to 1950 when things were peachy keen.
If anything, the Borg are like the radical left. In fact, the concept of the Borg was developed as a criticism to the Radical Left (the Che/Stalinista/Castro/Alinsky types).
What the hell are you on about? The Borg were developed as a new villain in The Next Generation because the original intended villains (the Ferengi) sucked. I hope your comment was meant to be sarcastic, but you know the internet and sarcasm.
Besides, the Federation is described as a Socialist Utopia.
The shot of Voyager was an FX test - obviously there were no finished FX shots available for the teaser, hence the reuse of footage from TNG, "Generations" and DS9. There is actually no shot of an Enterprise besides D. This teaser first played before "Independence Day."
I noticed a lot of those special effects shots were more primitive than the ones used in the actual movie, also I noticed one scene that was actually from the DS9 pilot and wasn't in the movie at all
One thing that they really should have done was bring back the TNG version of the Borg Theme - you hear it for only a few seconds in this trailer when the 'Borgified' ST Logo is revealed. That theme was damn freaky.
If you look at 0.43 you see an Intrepid class vessel firing at the Borg, you can also see its registry number, stating its NCC 74656. So that's Voyager! :-)
And it just looks if this shot was taken from TNG Best of both worlds part 2 where the USS Enterprise D saucer section is firing on the Borg cube. Very weird.
the first theatrical trailers for Star Trek: First Contact contain very little footage from the film? To launch the promotion on schedule, it needed to be released long before the film was completed. So the score from the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country trailers were used, along with footage from "The Best of Both Worlds". Curiously, even USS Voyager appears in the trailer, in what appears to be a scene with the USS Enterprise-D from "Best of Both Worlds."
Or perhabs the renegade Borg of Unimatrix 0 will decide build a new collective.
And I think the only Borg which still exist are Seven, those former Borg drones on that Planet where Chakotay stranded, the children of Brg (Itchep and the others) and the Borg renegades of Unimatrix 0.
It's a teaser trailer. Teaser trailers will often have very little footage of the movie, since teaser trailers are made and released so early in development.
For example, the teaser trailer for the latest Trek movie has very little footage to it.
Scenes From Star Trek: The Next Generation (Best of Both worlds and All good things), Star Trek Deep Space Nine (The Emissary), Star Trek: Voyager (An Episode I don't know), Star Trek VII: Generations and Star Trek VIII: First Contact together in a brief trailer with music from Star Trek VI and VII and Star Trek TNG (Best of both worlds) in one brief teaser trailer: Freaking cool.
Great trailer. One of the best trailers for a Star Trek movie. Too bad almost none of it is from the actual movie. It's mostly footage from other movies and episodes. (As mentioned below).
had both trailers on a VHS tape from the in-video store at my job after 1994 until the bitch I was married to sold or destroyed my star trek collection
Not, its just reused stock footage from TNG and Voyager. I can name every layers source. The cube and primary angle is from best of both worlds, the shot of voyager is from the pilot, the phasers are added in quickly, the explosion is a freeze frame from yesterdays enterprise, and a bunch of the shots of the Enterprise are TNG stock footage.
you're quite correct. From the Best of Both Worlds Part II when the saucer was separated and Shelby says 'fire anti-matter spread' to distract the Borg from the secondary hull section
This must have been so misleading when it aired... Enterprise-D, Enterprise and Voyager all somehow fighting Borg together.

HunterKiller999 2 years ago
The shot of Voyager was an FX test - obviously there were no finished FX shots available for the teaser, hence the reuse of footage from TNG, "Generations" and DS9. There is actually no shot of an Enterprise besides D. This teaser first played before "Independence Day."
meiray 2 years ago
Apparently they were planning to use an Intrepid Class as the Enterprise E but decided that it something different from an Intrepid should be used.

OMG SAME MUSIC FROM STAR TREK 6
keridog1 3 years ago
The second half of the trailer is terrible, but the first half is brilliant at building up suspense.
WorfSOM 3 years ago
Thats a lot of reused shit for a new movie, The generations trailer was like that too.
Thankfully another trailer (a better one) was made
sserpent21 3 years ago
I noticed a lot of those special effects shots were more primitive than the ones used in the actual movie, also I noticed one scene that was actually from the DS9 pilot and wasn't in the movie at all

im pissed off cuz my First Contact dvd is scratched up so now i have to spend $20 or something to get a new one
witchking3434 3 years ago
One thing that they really should have done was bring back the TNG version of the Borg Theme - you hear it for only a few seconds in this trailer when the 'Borgified' ST Logo is revealed. That theme was damn freaky.
Barricade 3 years ago 26
@Barricade Think this was the best trailer for First Contact Simply because of the 'assimilated' logo and the use of the TNG borg theme.
RafaleC77th 1 year ago
Nothing like the Series and Crew, esp Picard that originally engaged the Borg clashing and meeting in a ST Movie.
at1212b 3 years ago
I always hated the TNG movie trailers, cause they just reused footage from the tv shows.
DewbackRider88 3 years ago
Well, I like it.
As you may have or have not noticed, Star Trek always reused elder footage.
FekLeyrTarg 3 years ago
If you look at 0.43 you see an Intrepid class vessel firing at the Borg, you can also see its registry number, stating its NCC 74656. So that's Voyager! :-)
And it just looks if this shot was taken from TNG Best of both worlds part 2 where the USS Enterprise D saucer section is firing on the Borg cube. Very weird.
Zoutezak 3 years ago
I agree. But the shot doesn't look like BobW Part 2 to me.
I could be unused footage originally made for "Unity" and/or "Scorpion, Part1" (both from ST: Voyager session 3)
FekLeyrTarg 3 years ago
from memory alpha:
the first theatrical trailers for Star Trek: First Contact contain very little footage from the film? To launch the promotion on schedule, it needed to be released long before the film was completed. So the score from the Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country trailers were used, along with footage from "The Best of Both Worlds". Curiously, even USS Voyager appears in the trailer, in what appears to be a scene with the USS Enterprise-D from "Best of Both Worlds."

No they weren't. They were crippled. The queen has died like 4 times now but always comes back.
They'll be back and with advanced technology they stole from the future ship.

FekLeyrTarg 3 years ago
for a trailer, it has almost nothing of the movie
ltflak 3 years ago
It's a teaser trailer. Teaser trailers will often have very little footage of the movie, since teaser trailers are made and released so early in development.
For example, the teaser trailer for the latest Trek movie has very little footage to it.
Cyke101 3 years ago
This is one of my favourite teaser trailers.
FekLeyrTarg 3 years ago 2
Wow. Music from Star Trek VI, scenes from the TV series, and acting that was obviously not final cut. Cute.
Gorthaur42 3 years ago
it was like a teaser trailer for the most part and a lot of the effects werent done yet. I remember this trailer when it came out though.

Does anyone know where to find any deleted scenes for First Contact?

Great trailer. One of the best trailers for a Star Trek movie. Too bad almost none of it is from the actual movie. It's mostly footage from other movies and episodes. (As mentioned below).

Bitter--NO! Couldn't be. Just a 10-11 year collection that cost thousands of dollard went down the drain and haven't seen one piece of it in 4 years

The movie "First Contact" is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time in my opinion. The story & acting is just fantastic. Thanks for posting !

It appears they were also trying to keep the trekkys all in suspense with the look of the new Enterprise E. Which I reackon is the best yet

calinthesea 4 years ago
Not, its just reused stock footage from TNG and Voyager. I can name every layers source. The cube and primary angle is from best of both worlds, the shot of voyager is from the pilot, the phasers are added in quickly, the explosion is a freeze frame from yesterdays enterprise, and a bunch of the shots of the Enterprise are TNG stock footage.
commandox20 4 years ago
That shot of Voyager firing at the cube doesn't come from any episode....or at least on TV
I wonder if it was cut out of a Voyager ep and used here?
cdname47 4 years ago
Its an intercut of the episode BEST OF BOTH WORLDS and a shot of the Voyager model.
commandox20 4 years ago
The flames surrounding the cube would seem to discount that idea however
cdname47 4 years ago
The flames infront of the cube look like a freeze frame of the stock explosion used in "Yesterdays Enterprise".
commandox20 4 years ago
you're quite correct. From the Best of Both Worlds Part II when the saucer was separated and Shelby says 'fire anti-matter spread' to distract the Borg from the secondary hull section
retro38 4 years ago
I don't think they had the Enterprise E CGI model & effects complete at the time of this trailer.
PCGameTrek 4 years ago
It seems they were pretty desperate not to show the exterior of the Enterprise E
FloridaLawDawg 4 years ago
aye, this is the teaser trailer found on the DVDs
it uses music from the undiscovered country, generations, and the best of both worlds
its also got quite a few clips of many other episodes
and the scene of voyager firing on a cube at 0:43 was never seen again, idk why they put it in there
