I know that Mr. Grohl is a god to many, but he speeds up a little in the middle, and the tempo shifts a little here and there. No, I am not a drummer, and when I play I rock steady. I'm just an old Ginger Baker fan.
sweet.freaking.post...Dude, even after seeing it with my own eyes I can't figure out how Dave does that fill in the 3rd phrase of the chorus!!! What a badass
Dave Grohl is a very good drummer. He is a very good guitar player. He is a tremendous rock singer. He is one of the best song writers of his generation.
Dave Grohl is a GREAT musician.
And one can only wonder if any of that would have ever come to light if Cobain hadn't overdosed, and Grohl was never able to get out from behind his shadow.
Finally, to paraphrase the legendary Billy Campion, Grohl playing drums on this track is like adding a little cocaine to the tequila!
@Kyussist He got rid of the earrings, now he only needs to get rid of the newly grown beard as well... One down, one to go. And yes, the Bizarre 98... o.O
he did start a new band with josh homme from qotsa.they call themselves them crooked vultures saw them on rar this year. dave was so great on the drums
Dave is the shit on drums, he embarasses Taylor Hawkins as a drummer.. Dave is the real drummer of that band he writes all the music. Grohl should just leave the foo and start another band on drums where he belongs.
Well i like Grohl but honestly he sucks as Singer / Guitar Player. The Foo Fighters are so aweful just boring stadium rock. Well i have to admit his drumming is quiet good.
Josh Homme on the other side is a true "Master of Rock" from the first Kyuss Rekords to the latest Them Crooked Vultures he does just perfect.
Imo Homme gets not enough reputation for his amazing work.
@DaDuDi4u thats your opinion. i cant imagine the foo fighters being so awful and being succesful at the same time, particuarly with a singer and guitarist who 'sucks'.
@ELMcADAM A band being successful does not automatically mean a band are any good. With the Foo Fighters I'd say their relative popularity is down to the fact Grohl's in the line-up. If he weren't there they'd be bagged as the banal stadium rockers they are.
lol, love the video, especially the extremely weird camera work, i really need 14 different angles of Josh from the left only and an extreme close up of his face. What a killer performance though, thanks for posting!
im gonna get like 100 thumbs down, but i dont give a damn who the drummer is in QOTSA. joey, alfredo, and dave all sound good live. anyway amazing band and cant wait for a new album from them whenever that is.
Indeed. Josh is actually an excellent arranger. If you listen carefully to QOTSA recordings there are all kinds of little touches -- sometimes as simple as a few claps -- that add a lot to the overall sound.
@dgmaiga i agree. i love joey castillo but i think this is their best album and grohl had a lot to do with that, i wish he would tour with qotsa more this summer
@nickjb01 Grohl's a good drummer but there are so many better ones out there. He's very overrated. I'm sure I'll have an array of vacuous responses to this now, but the Nirvana sychophants should try listening to a vartiety of bands away from grunge and you'll discover some amazing drummers. Start with Jaki Liebezeit and Reni.
@MrThreshold2009 I disagree with your point that he's overrated. However, I won't act like most others and throw insults. Instead I'll check out the drummers which you mentioned. Thanks.

yeah but its somehow some true... cause after nirvana he only played with Queen of the Stone and Tenacious D.... but of course.... who would like to play the drums all the day like before when it makes you remember someone who died... and its true what you said... the media used nirvana to get some more of popularity... well those years at least...
Well, he was kind of busy with Foo Fighters. It's not like he has tons of time. He's played drums on many albums for other artists though over the years. ok Foo Fighters isnt anywhere close to Nirvana and Queens of the stone age, but they do have a few good songs like "times like these" and "my hero" and "all my life"
It seems like Dave is half the size of Joey but he hits twice as hard. Mabye he actually isnt but.... Dave just seems like he's trying to kill something ever time he hits.
Joey is like a controlled beast, he hits hard and he does it in swift hits.
Grohl is like an unleashed beast, he just lets loose on his kit and hits as hard as he can.
Grohl doesn't have the strength of Joey but he definitely puts everything he has into a performance.
Personally, I think Joey fits QotSA more then Grohl. Grohl was in QotSA for 3/4ths an album in the studio and a few months on tour. Joeys got much more experience with them. Both are bad ass guys tho.
what makes you say that? The Songs For the Deaf album is so inspiring to rock drummers, and arguably queens best album...If it weren't for Grohl on the kit, I don't think the album would be on the same level as it is...To me, even though Joey is a great drummer, he's kind of generic and not nearly as creative as Grohl...If Grohl was their full time drummer all of their albums since SFTD more be more creative and well rounded...

It seems like Dave is half the size of Joey but he hits twice as hard. Mabye he actually isnt but.... Dave just seems like he's trying to kill something ever time he hits.

I got a better analogy.

By the way, I wasn't bashing Grohl.
Most of my playing on drums is pretty much inspired by Grohl and Castillo.

what makes you say that? The Songs For the Deaf album is so inspiring to rock drummers, and arguably queens best album...If it weren't for Grohl on the kit, I don't think the album would be on the same level as it is...To me, even though Joey is a great drummer, he's kind of generic and not nearly as creative as Grohl...If Grohl was their full time drummer all of their albums since SFTD more be more creative and well rounded...
