Susie Salmon was based, if I correctly recall, upon a girl that Alice Sebold knew was raped, and murdered. Hence her first book, "Lucky," refers to how the police told her she was lucky after just being raped, rather than being raped and murdered. It's sort of like how Stephen King created Carrie White after a girl he knew IRL or how Mike Judge created Daria Morgendorffer based on a girl he knew IRL as well.

@jellybellybaby234 It's based off of Alice Sebold's personal account, but she wrote it more so about the murder and hurt. If you read Lucky, her other book, its a memoir and it talks about her getting raped. Its really sad:(
