  • KDE nuff said!

second Openbox ( love it )

  • XFCE.

  • Currently playing w/and enjoying Gnome 3 shell on Oneiric at the moment. KDE is my main & on Oneiric has surprisingly proven to be the most stable(w/Xrender) when compared to Gnome 3 or Unity. IMO, KDE is the best experience as far as looks, converting from Windows and tweakability out of the box. Gnome 3 w/extensions is very nice. I'm a big fan of the activities overview & hotcorner. In a few months it should be great. For me, Unity is the slowest of the 3 and the least configurable.

  • KDE is nice, but I found it to be resource-heavy. I say this because my computers are all off-lease or refurbished.

Unity is a re-source heavy and it takes longer, more steps to do the same things you could do in Gnome.

I prefer Gnome, but for my older (oldest?) pc -HP8800, I installed Xubuntu with XfCE, and that is very acceptable.

  • Debian Squeeze with Gnome 2

  • xfce - more like gnome 2

  • I personally use XFCE with Avant Window Navigator

  • xfce

  • disgusting

  • Gnome 2x

  • fluxbox xD

  • I use XFCE. Kde if ok, but it is a memory hog. Unity and Gnome 3, like Linus said are an unholy mess!

  • I use gnome2

  • Gnome, than i went to KDE, got a lot of segmentation faults and went back to Gnome

  • I use a few desktops. I've just installed OpenSUSE 12.1 (it looks great and it's nice to try something not based on Ubuntu). I have Ubuntu 11.10 (Unity and Gnome-shell; much prefer Gnome-shell). I also have Ubuntu 10.4 (it works great and I like the full Compiz thing).

Mint 12 looks interesting but I'll wait to see how MATE progresses (the bolt-on menu Mint 12 has for Gnome-shell looks great but it would, I'm certain, bug me after a bit and I'd get rid of it.

  • I guess I am a gnome refugee right now, my Video editing laptop runs Lxde (linux mint 11) my portable laptop also lxde but the Lubuntu version. My pendrive has Bodhi linux install which Is even lighter on resources

  • I use either GNOME 3 or no DE at all with the i3 window manager. Also I'm thinking about building an Openbox/Pekwm desktop but since it's not very urgent to me i have been putting it off. I would never use KDE though.

  • E17 Enlightenment ;)

  • xfce

  • Like you I dislike Gnome 3 and Unity and I think Ubuntu will one day regret the change. They are all chasing the Apps market for hand held devices but the power PC market wants none of it. I am going to use CentOs which will support Gnome 2 until 2017.

  • I have been using Unity as my main OS ever since it's release in 11.04,Although over the last few weeks i have been using Gnome 3 a lot more with a few the new extensions they have added..

  • Running awesomewm, love it

  • xfce

  • I use gnome 3 with a few extensions and avant windows manager. I got everything i want in it plus a cool minimal desktop.

  • ive been using awesomewm for quite some time and i enjoy it very much

  • XFCE

  • I am using Ubuntu's Unity, and am quite comfortable with it, I use my machine for work and many task at one time and it works well. Also am using a dual monitor setup and it was a breeze to get going and works how I want and expect it to work.

  • You're intro "Linux Tutorials for Everyone" isn't bright enough... had to pause to make it out. I'm still using gnome 2 for now. I don't think Mint 12 is stable enough for me. I'll wait until all the repositories are compatible. However, Gnome 3 looks cool, KDE may be too complex for me.

  • I did not like unity or gnome 3 so I tried Openbox, now I like Openbox better than gnome 2!
