  • Thumbs up on the vid wolverine. Use rip stop nylon instead of cotton for your mattress, it won't rip. You can also stuff it with pine needles and/or leaves for insulation.

Structurally the bed frame looks sound but try the following to improve your warmth at night. Build a wall of branches and leaves from the ground up to the bed around 3 sides, leave the side facing the fire open. Heat from the fire will get trapped under the bed and keep you warmer.

  • Damn i liked this vid!

Next time take me with you, and i promise you will not feel cold :^D

  • A lot of effort just for a bed.

  • Great video! Now I have to look at the rest of your stuff. It's nice to see a woman who is comfortable in the woods. I keep trying to get my wife to visit the wilderness with me, but she'd rather go shopping.

  • Forgot to mention, it also doubles as a bivy.......

  • Have you looked into a Hammock? There are many good instructional videos here on YT on construction. I can recommend a "DD Hammock", if you wish to purchase instead of building your own. The travel version works very well here in Canada with the cold weather. It has a pocket on the bottom in which you can slip foam or whatever insulation you wish. Very comfortable and warm. Also very reasonably priced.

  • I think its cool that your not afraid to show when some of the things you do dont work out, like the raised shelter. I've made a few dodgy shelters myself but would be too vain to put them on utube.

    Good on you.

  • Awesome experience. Good to test your skills.

  • schoene Video. Glueck wuensche!

  • Are you in the black forest?

  • Great video.

For the next you do a better bed.

  • @drjamyma dont understand your comment!

  • Wow, having some reaction Wayne from Wayne's World did when he first saw Cassandra.

  • i sincerely apologize for laughing so hard at your miserable night....but that was really funny ;)

  • I give you 5 stars !!! Great video, awesome raised bed... I commend you for all you are doing:) I wish more woman would do this sort of thing:)

  • would hate if this happened to me, i would get demoralized, great vid btw, shows not everything is nice and beatiful

    1000 thumbs up!!

  • strange looking kitchen but ok..

  • amazingly cute:)

  • nice vide ;) thumps up + subscribe :) and can you speack German? because you said at 07:42 "na endlich :)"

    LG

    Marco

  • @WaldErforscher ja spreche Deutsch. Bin ja aus Österreich aber mein Channel is international! lg Lilly

  • Very inspiring and great idea for the raised bed, only thing I would suggest is that next time use a canvas tarp for the bed and not a cotton sheet... I found out they work great for hammocks so your raised bed idea looks like one would work for it as well...

  • I have just watched most of your videos. I found you thru a link from Econochallenge. I like your videos so i subbed and i will be looking forward to some more!

Thank you for sharing your talents.

  • A for effort. A for attitude...Dash Riprock

  • Excellent concept for the shelter and raised bed. Econochallenge sent me over and I have to say thanks to Jeep for leading me to you.

    Nate

  • Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed this video. It shows how important perserverence is. Thanks again.

  • Thanks you SO much for that post!!! It's great to see people that can laugh about having a cold unsleep. All the best and look forward to seeing more videos. FoXR6 :-)

  • Great little stove. I'd love to see a video of how you made it. "Make the journey worthy of the destination"...Laurie

  • You should bring your self an ax next time. By the way a great idea to set up a bed off the ground!

  • @Lyecdevf No axe required. They are too heavy to carry and you don't need one to complete this project.

  • @EconoChallenge Are you her mentor on surviving in the out doors? The project being in sleeping one night in the woods!

I did not mean the big lumberjack ax to cut down trees with. There is a whole range of small axes that one could use that are not that heavy and would do the work of the saw as well so if you were to take away the saw you would not even notice.

  • @Lyecdevf I did not sleep in mine overnight yet. I am not brave enough to do a solo overnight. That is one of many reasons this video impressed me. As for the Axe vs the Saw ... it is a running debate in our little hiking group. I was just having some fun in the same way. Thank you for the reply.

  • @EconoChallenge Funny you say so because I have never my self done an overnight sleep in the woods but my sister has. Seems like women are more courageous than us. :)

Any way I would not need to debate. It is really simple the way I see it. The axe can come handy in this case by using the flat side and hammering those pieces of wood into the ground. The same tool for sharpening the knife can be used for the axe as well. It can be used as a weapon in self defense. It is more manly...

  • Hi alonewolverine1984,

gefällt mir was du so draußen machst.

    Greg

  • Loved your bed idea. Of course you know you need stronger material, but you could have stuffed some dry grass/moss/foilage inbetween the layers to add insulation to your backside. Really liked it.

  • brilliant video i like the fact that even when things go wrong you still look as if you are having fun & thats the best thing to enjoy it. all the best

  • Awesome video...you are showin it the way it really is when you are out there...Its not easy to go it alone in the back country, I dont know that many people who would take it with such a positive outlook as you did, keep the vids coming and Thank You for sharing

  • The Bed idea is great,

    LG, Benedikt

  • great video ... best i have seen in a long time .

  • @sabiniq thank you, may I ask you what makes it the best video you have seen for a long time? Everyone says that but I don't see the reason :-)

  • Great Video. I really got a big laugh when I seen how cold you were in the morning because it reminded me of how cold I was on the first night of my survival camping trip recently. I felt the same way as you did. Very cold. You stuck it out. Good for you.

  • Oh my, child! You have got to get you a hammock! With all those beautiful trees around, it is a sin not to hang from them! I'm enjoying your videos very much. You are doing things most young women would not dream of doing.

  • Excellent video. Keep it up.

  • Very cool setup Lilly, really like it a lot! Too funny you went through your bed :-) and congratulations on not giving up!!! that is the real spirit!

    Hartelijke groetjes

    Patric

  • wildflower

  • Fantastic, Better than most of the boring stuff being put out nowdays. You will go far on youtube.

  • Great video! I have been in situation you were in and it is from those experiences I have learned most from. It is easy to sit in a couch and daydream how it is going to be. But dirt time is were the theories is put to the test:o)

Take care and have fun in the woods!

    -Rob

  • nice one

  • Great video, the shelter was a really good idea and i love the fact that you just laughed it off. Way to show the boy's and I how its done!!! keep it up!!

  • Great Job!! Thanks for sharing!

  • I would have to agree. This was a great video. This experience taught us and i bet yourself many differant things. 100% sucess! Keep up the great work. TY for shareing PEACE

  • You have the right attitude towards this, laugh at your misfortunes and thus they become fortunes. Best video from You yet.

  • nice shelter.

  • You have a pretty cool bed setup I think. If you could sew up the bed tube with ripstop nylon it should be plenty strong and even lighter in weight. Great vid, thanks for sharing your outing with us.

  • You have some great skills!! keep on bushcrafting.

  • awesome! 'for real' bushcraft for a change

  • @supertramp71 really? thank you a lot for that compliment :-))

  • Lady! you are awsome!!, your husband should be verry proud.

thank you for nice vid keep them coming Daniel just sub

  • Fantastic Video, i think youre incedibly brave =D definately got a new subscriber today. As for you shelter. i LOVED the inginuity aswell. fantastic idea.and now tested too... haha i feel so bad for you =D. lesson learned i hope. as for myself. being experienced in using shelters. with no sleeping back and no frost at night. i woulda build a leanto shelter with a fire in front. woulda kept you very warm.

Looking forward to see more vids . Ben =)

  • @bbroegger thank you a lot for the nice comment Ben. Next time I gonna go for that leanto shelter :-)

  • Well done! Great job on your first Bushcraft only outing. Enjoyed the video your skills AND your confidence. Obviously not everything went as planed but you stuck it out. And I'll bet you have a better time next time. I could feel the cold in the morning. And the warmth of the fire too! Good job. Your pretty damn tough! And damn pretty too :-) Ha ha!

  • @dmacken11 thank you, yeah I am a tough girl - I grew up with two brothers you have to know :-P

  • Very nice outing! That's how we all learn, by getting out there. Glad to see a young person getting involved with bushcraft. Keep it up!

  • @agilewoodsman thank you :-)

  • great vid. Not all nights are perfect. but every trip is still fun regardless. I thought the idea for a bed was good though.

  • Great video., looks like a fun solo trip. I have broken my "bed" like that before, and it's no fun to wake up, cold and tired with an aching back!

  • Nice shelter! Looks like something 'reallybigmonkey" would like!

  • Nice selection of outdoors bushcrafty things you did, shame about the collapsed bed frame, never mind you still kept at it and you know you'll get out for the night soon and do even better and maybe make a fire pit to keep warm . Keep it up, nice one. Cheers.

  • Hi Lilly, What a wonderful adventure and amazing video! Loved your bed and shelter, excellent bushcraft skills. When I first saw that it had fallen down, it seemed so sad. But then you shown us a wonderful attitude and spirit to be able to laugh it off. Way to go sister!!!! : )

  • @saradreaming thanks :-) sister :-P I think you have that wonderful attitude too!

  • wow, the hammock you made is increadable! Great ingenuity :) Fantastic video!

    All the best, John

  • @JohnBBushcraft thank you, I learned that skill from the "Survival-Guide" ( I made a review on that book)

  • awesome video and loved the shelter. i have to make one now lol. im sure you know how to solve your problems. it has been very cold here at night even though it is supposed to be our hottest time of the year. great video and wish we could go on a trip together.

  • @FixedByDoc trip together would be cool, but you know, there are some thousand miles between us ;-)

  • @alonewolverine1984 yep lots of distance. that would make for one long hike lol. one day i will get a passport and travel around to a few countries to go hiking and such.

  • well done on your first bushcraft night. You did well,Next time have a wool blanket or sleeping bag and you will be alot more comfortable! Good luck with the next one!

  • Great video Lilly look like you had a great and eventful time

    Wish I was there

    Take care

    Pete :-)

  • Your bed setup looked very good, except for the thin cotton. Fill the space between the fabric with debris from the forest floor for insulation.

  • @bullthrush really good idea! I gonna do that next time :-)

  • @alonewolverine1984

I liked the idea of yourshelter. It seems more comfortable than sleeping in a hammock and the meat seemed great! Good luck in the next!

  • Fair play to you for not giving up and making the best of the circumstances you were presented with, a lot of people i know would have given up and gone home, rather than seeing the funny side of it and persevering as you did

  • @maveraver thank you for your nice comment :-)

  • pretty woman..

  • Alle Achtung, große Aktion, große Action auch. Cool reagiert, wirklich toll! Was für ein Erlebnis. Stark! Lieber Gruß und erhol Dich gut, Sepp

  • lol, that might be your best video yet.

  • @alonewolverine1984 right on young lady

  • Hey Lilly!
