  • It really annoys me when people say that a role belongs to a certain person. If you truly think that then you don't understand theatre at all.

  • I loved that Mimi chick I saw @ the Pantages theatre. She had power pipes. But, it looked SO effortless. I wad geeked & jealous @ the same time....

  • Lea Michele is the future Idina Menzel. I can totally see her in about 10 years on that stage beltingout the high notes of defying gravity, and illbeon the first row cheering her on!

  • >< the climax was bad. she just doesn't have the range to pull elphaba off

  • @Adlea13 Damn.. it was pretty bad.. strange I feel like now she could totally do better. Her range has grown with glee just because she has to do so many different songs.

  • It was good till the climax =[

  • She messed up! xD

  • LEA MICHELLE IS SO HORRIBLE. Just listening to her attempting to belt at the end is hilarious. If you want to listen to someone amazing try Sutton Foster, Stephanie J Block or Linda Eder. It's mind blowing that people believe this thin simple voiced garbage is talent.

  • @raychillie hate if you want to hate. She is incredible. She's already been on Broadway actually, and they don't let anyone but the best on Broadway or the West End, that's why it's so amazing to watch something there. She belted out that note fine. Okay, not quite as powerful as Idina or Rachel's belted note, but it's a hell of a lot better than you could ever hope to be.

  • @FireflyFanatic3 If they only let the best on Broadway, we wouldn't have to deal with Spiderman.

  • @acapellagirl24 well I don't know what that is...

  • @FireflyFanatic3 Spiderman: Turn off the Dark. Are you really claiming to know anything about Broadway without even knowing what shows are on now?

  • @acapellagirl24 look, if you want to get all self-righteous then fine, be a prat, whatever. But my point wasn't that the shows are all absolutely incredible, there will always be some which are not everyone's cup of tea, but the people cast in them have to meet very high standards, especially on the more prestigious ones, like Wicked.

  • @FireflyFanatic3 Not all actors on Broadway are good. About a quarter of them have some connection that gets them the part. Last time I saw Wicked, Dr. Dillamond sucked. I'm sorry, but he did. I've seen many well respected shows that had some really horrible actors. Hell, Sarah Brightman couldn't even act and was not the best singer that auditioned (even though she did have an amazing voice) but she was cast as the original Christine because her husband was none other than ALW.

  • @acapellagirl24 AMEN!!!! XD

  • @raychillie You didn't include Idina Menzel in that list.

  • Lea is a good singer but she is a soprano not an alto and Elphaba is an alto. She doesn't have the feel of an outcast young girl who wants to be loved. Idina Menzel is the one and only Elphaba but by the time the movie is made she and Kristin will be to old :'( As long as they don't make a mistake on Elphaba in the movie I will be fine :) Although it would be AMAZING if the OBC (Original Broadway Cast) Were to do the movie!!!

  • eden espinosa or idina menzel for the movie hands down...lea is talented but a) cant go low enough consistently and b)doesnt have convincing elphie power

  • love me some Lea Michele, but she is not an Elphaba..if she was to play any part in Wicked and do it justice, I think it would be Nessa.

  • She can't sing low enough to be Elphaba...

  • KRYSTA RODRIGUEZ!!!!!! 0:22!!! <333333 .EEEEEEEK!!! ..... Oh and of course Lia Michelle, too...

  • Awww I love the last picture

  • Lea is just not Elphaba. Don't get me wrong, she as a great voice for a lot of things, but Eplhie is not one of them. Her voice just isn't powerful enough. Compare her to Teal Wicks and there is no contest. If they ever pick her over Teal as Elphie for a movie, then they're making a huge mistake.

  • @Thianha Pretty much. In a sense she reminds me of Lisa Brescia (who actually did play elphaba). Amazing voice and no doubt theyre great singers, but they lack the power behind it.

  • @Thianha Or how about the original, Idina????

  • @Thianha agreed teal wicks is just amazing beyond words her voice sends chills i hope they choose teal if they do ever make a wicked movie cuz she has the voice and young character

  • I saw an interview with Idina Menzel and she was asked if she would be playing the part, and her reply was that by the time it comes out, she and Kristin would be too old to pull off acting like late high school early college age, so she and Kristin will not be in the movie when it eventually does not come out

  • I can definitely see Lea as a future Elphaba after her Glee days are over.

  • Her belt and slide up at meee to I'll stand there with the wizard! was awful...she STOPPED..the point is to hold the phrase..BOO

  • I actually think she will be cast as the movie elphaba.. I love Idina... and eden and all of the other ladies.. but Elphaba is like sixteen for the majority of the movie.... Idina is just a little old to play a sixteen year old on film...

  • naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.....thought she would be better really :(

  • i think lea is very talented, but if they make a wicked movie and cast her I will be extremely disappointed. She's just not Elphaba in my opinion...

  • This is one of my favorite songs so for Lea to be doing it is so amazing!! :) I love her!<3

  • @DeebieHarr idina menzel looks to old for the film version. elphabas supposed to be in college, and then a LITTLE bit after college. same thing with kristin, too old for the film version.

  • Beside the point I hate her voice, even auto-tuned on Glee, there's no way she could ever act the part of Elphaba. The bad thing is, that producers of the musical will PROBABLY cast her, for the Name and Fame.

  • @TheGreendaybryce She's been in musicals since the age of 8, so she must be pretty good! Especially as she's only famous through Glee. So I do not doubt her ability at all. I think she would play the part well, giving it justice.

  • Is she lesbian?

  • @dinahmanatee Of course not. She had a serious boyfriend.

  • she has disapointed me :(

  • I LOVE Lea to absolute pieces, but I can't be the only one who thought she was a little off? Hahaa, probably.. but then knowing her talents, it's probably the fault of the recording :P <3

  • <3 I LOVE HER SO MUCH!

  • I love Lea Michele, don't get me wrong.....but there's no beating Idina.

  • @epacmo1807 True!! Idina is the best Elphaba EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!

  • @epacmo1807 there absolutely is not. but she would make a gr8 Elpaha in a movie maybe;p

  • @epacmo1807 i know right! but lea is a very very close 2nd!

  • @epacmo1807 I actually think (from what I've seen - I've only seen Idina on the soundtrack and in videos on youtube :P) but I prefer Rachel Tucker. I thought she was a better actress, and put more emotion into the songs...

  • @FireflyFanatic3 No offence, but I always wonder how people can think that there is a better Elphaba than Idina. There can't be.. Idina partly created Elphaba and Elphaba is written on Idina, explain to me how anyone can be better, when you think about this?

  • @itasjef because I was more convinced by her performance and more impressed with her singing... saying it's impossible for a part to be performed or song sung better than the original is a bit ignorant. There are lots of songs where I prefer a cover, because quite simply - I feel they sang or performed it better. Yes, I appreciate that this part may have been written with her in mind, but Rachel puts more emotion into it and is more convincing, I think.

  • @FireflyFanatic3 The singing part I can understand, that's genetically given. But, I still believe that there can't be a better performance of Elphaba. Because I also strongly take at heart that some of Elphaba's character has been made by Idina, she made that up. And all following actresses just "simply" (well, not just simply. You know what I mean) play the part. Not meaning that those actresses aren't brilliant in any way, they must be. To play Elphaba!!

  • @itasjef I get what you're saying. No one can have the connection with the character like Idina does. Although they might be better singers or actors than her they won't do that part better.

  • @Gleek1able Thank you!! YES! That's what I mean! Finally someone understands!! :D:D

  • I really liked the pictures!!

  • Wait... did she say "this gift or this quirk"??? o.O

  • Dear everyone: The movie isn't going to be coming out for like 5+ years. They are just now discussing a movie and it takes a few years to prepare for everything before filming even starts. And yes, the originals will be too old at that point. On screen, they won't be able to pull off college freshmen. Everyone is freaking out over who will play the role even though it's a LONG time away. They may cast someone who's never played the role on Broadway. But whoever they pick I'm sure will be good.

  • @DeebieHarr They said Idina and Kristin were too old to play their parts in the movie. :(

  • Now all I need is to hear her sing No Good Deed and my life will be complete.

  • i love her but i prefer Eden Espinosa...

  • are the man and the woman with her at the second last picture her parents?

  • @DeebieHarr Ms. Menzel is just too old for the role now. It's refreshing to enjoy new talent in epic roles;)

  • I love it :DDD

  • The book isn't that hard to read. Once you get up to the part where Elphaba is at university, it gets easy. And the vocab isn't that hard, either. I read it as a freshman and understood all of it.

  • wow she gets the words wrong lol that's why the ppl at gershwin hate her that and the fact that she annoys them I hope she isn't elphie in the movie it's just not right I like her but it's not her part it's Idinas or someone who already played it in gershwin

  • @NickiRoxTheWorld ....girl please

  • isnt it 'this gift or this curse'??? Not quirk?

  • 2:22 .... Knott's Berry Farm!! It looks like Riptide, which is one of my favorite rides :)

also, Why is she pictured with Hilary Duff at one point? I'm just curious on how the know each other.

  • The Book is so hard to read! it took me like 4 months to get through like a quarter of it! i gave up after that! Rachel Tuckers version is better but i absolotley adore Lea! x

  • Unless you have an excellent vocabulary, the book is impossible to read. I tried to read it and almost got a head ache.

  • @bphussar The book isn't hard to read. I read it for the first time when I was 14.

  • @amazingme1515 The book is irrelevant and yes I've seen it. I like to go from the playwright, it's more formal.

  • It's not galinda, it's glinda.

  • @AmaLeGay In the beginning of the show it IS Galinda. She changes it in the middle or the show to Glinda. Have you not seen the show or read the book?

  • I love Lea, I think she's crazy talented, I love her in glee and spring awakening. But I want Idina as the lead in the movie. I know that's not gonna happen, but it doesn't change the fact that in my mind Idina is Elphaba and Kristin is Galinda. That will never change.

  • Check out Amanda Harrison for the best version of this

  • well I personally do not like Lea Michelle, and I don't think she's suited for Elphaba... I really just don't like how she sings these songs...If she ends up as a lead in the movie version o will not see it...

  • She sounds really good, and I love her voice, but her voice kinda has a fragile quality to it, and I think she would make a good Nessa as someone else has said on here, but she does sound great!!(:

  • Is the guy with her in most of the pics her boyfriend? Does he also play Jesse st James?

  • @firedancer588 Gay best friend. Yes.

  • i really hope she will play elphaba

  • Awful.

  • This is awful! :/

  • I think her voice is too high pitched for this song and it's low notes. I think she, for sure, can sing this song but it just doesn't perfectly fit. I still think she's beyond amazing.

  • Shes sooo lucky, I wanna hang out with Idina Menzel!!

  • she is amazing, dont get me wrong :)

but this song, its not for her, i dont think

  • I still can't get over the fact that her and Idina look SO much alike!!!

  • It'd be cool if she got the words right.

  • please record this LEA

  • oh dear, she cant hit the low notes :|

  • @gemmabear maybe its just the recording?? .. either way she is still amazing

  • @gemmabear I agree. I love her but seriously, she makes the song seem awful

  • i love all the pictures!

  • (continued) glinda. If they did it this way I think everyone would be pleased! :)

  • If they do end up making wicked a movie they should pick a young elphaba and a young glinda and an old elphaba and an old glinda. This would help represent the time tht has elapsed between the 1st half of the show and the 2nd half of the show. If they go with this idea, Lea could play young elphaba and idina could play the slightly older elphaba and kristen could play the slightly older glinda. Personally, I think that katie rose clarke, the current glinda on broadway would be a perfect young g

  • I love the photo at 1:56! I kinda didn't even listen to her singing ... i was too distracted by the photos

  • Good try but your natrual voice is too low I love your voicew but its just the wrong key!

  • She should leave all those big riffs "feeling things ive never felt" to Eden Espinosa or Carrie Manolakos. She has a really good voice but not for belty songs like this.

  • lol sorry Lea but this song is to big for you...

  • She sounds kind of like Idina Menzel when she was 10...

  • I think Lea would be perfect to play Elphaba on broadway :)

  • @cmart1997 No, just no. She hasn't got the right voice for it :/

  • @BOWYERD999555 Well she has the right face for it (:

  • she is a total goddess

  • I think Lea does this pretty amazingly.. Elphaba is supposed to be young when she sings this song.. And I think Lea does this pretty well. She's no Idina, but nobody will ever come close to being Idina.. But Lea does a fantastic job of getting the 'young Elphaba' across..

She reminds me of Cassidy Janson's version of this song (she played Elphie on the West End for a couple of shows) who also does the 'young Elphie' amazingly..

  • I love her to death like i wanna be her! but I really don't want to see her as elphaba in the movie, it's not a good fit. just because she can sing the songs and she sorta kinda looks the part and she's like bestiies with idina does NOT mean she should play her, there is a thing of having the essence of the character and lea just doesnt have that. I think she would be an AMAZING nessa onstage but i dont want her to be apart of the movie just because "she's Lea Michele" tht isnt right to me.

  • rachel please leave this to mommy

  • i hate to say it but if they do a movie for wicked she would probably be picked..idina is to old now and they want a face that is recognised to majority of people...:/

  • I don't think she had enough practice.. it sounds like she kind of just winged it.

  • if she is elphaba in the movie or any production im gonna cry.

  • She's just way too young. Or at least her voice is, for this part.

  • Idina sang this so much better.

WHEN they make Wicked a movie, Idina has to be Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth should play G(a)linda. Lea would be ok as Nessa though.

And it would just be amazing for those three to work together :)

  • I'm not "dissing her singing" because I think she is a really good singer, and no, I couldn't do better, but i think she doesn't have the right voice. Idina has a crazy CRAZY voice range, and Lea can't go as low. There is really no comparison when it comes to Elphaba

  • Lea's GREAT but I think she's not quite Elphaba she just doesn't have an Elphaba voice not trying to be rude but that's my opinion she's great as Rachel!!!!!

  • she should honestly try out for elphaba.

  • i prefer Rachel Tucker

  • Personally I reckon Gemma rix does one AWESOME Elphaba, but I guess they'd want an American for it or something like that (even though she can put on a perfect American accent). But obviously it should be idina, she is amazing and she probably has more right to, but if she couldn't do it then Gemma rix would be my next choice, there's simply no competition. Of course Lea is still amazing, there's no denying that.

  • @MickiG967 Jemma*

  • @BlazedHearts Oops. my bad.

  • at minute 0,38 is it jesse?

  • @katerinamazzoleni yes it's jonathan groff, her best friend who also played jesse in glee. ;)

  • It seems like she's trying to take over Elphaba.

  • @sarahdaisyx lol -- i don't think whether lea can sing is even a question. she definitely is skilled!! whether you like her voice is a different thing. i mean, i know people think i'm crazy when i say this, but i never really liked christina aguilera's voice at first, cuz it's so powerful. (i like it now,) but i always recognized that she CAN sing. ya knowww? :D

  • Whenever Wicked is made into a movie Lea Michelle needs to be Elphaba.

  • @jooodlez

I think Idina Menzel should be Elphaba, because she does the best.

  • @jooodlez ummmmm no. I absolutely LOVE Lea Michele, I do, but if they make it into a movie, Elphaba must be Idina. No substitute. there's no way Lea could be Elphie. stop playing off the looks, Lea is an amazing singer in her own right. she was just singing the song, which even i do from time to time. Does that mean I want to be Elphaba? No, no it doesnt. So stop with all of that

  • @mrzdford I understand that you want the original Idina to play the role but to say that she is a better singer than Lea is simply untrue. They have a VERY similar range. It's like comparing apples to oranges (Until I see a video of you singing this song I am going to laugh at the fact that you compared your voice to Lea Michele) Also I can guarantee that if it was turned around and Lea was the original Elphaba, you would be saying the same thing about Idina..

  • @16brooke1992 nahhh I never compared myself to either of them. I'm a guy first off. I could never get in the range of either of them. That and I'm just too attached to Idina as Elphaba. I'd have to actually see Lea in the role to even begin to fathom it.Nothing bad to either of them.

  • 2:10 pit stainnns

  • 0:20..... freakin love john gallagher jr.

  • Though, I do agree that her voice is a little high sounding as opposed to being lower and a little more raw. If I were to classify her voice, I'd say she were a soprano belt with a well-developed low range. Her tessitura is higher and her tone is of a lighter sound and not so warm and rich like most mezzos. So, they should keep that in thought for casting.

  • I think she'd make a pretty decent Elphaba. I'm not opposed or super excited about her possibly taking the role. Based on her vocal performance on this video and of her version of Defying Gravity, her belt is strong enough, she can most definitely act the part out and she looks age appropriate. Personally, she's one of my top choices because she's capable of handling it. But, I'd love to see someone more tall and quirky play the role of Elphaba... like Anne Hathaway (don't hate).

  • Yeah I agree with all the people that are saying Lea can't sing.

That's obviously why she's been on Broadway and Glee etc.....

Whoever says that Lea can't sing is obviously jealous. I can understand you may not like her voice because of the power, but hey, not everybody does... I personally love it. But you can NOT say she CAN'T sing... because she can, superbly, just maybe not to suit your specific taste.

  • i know where that portrait is!!!! at 1:56 its hanging in a resturant right off times square i eat there everytime i go to new york. its called like tony's or nick's. i highly recommend, plus you get to see lea and jon's painting

  • dont forget, twai was made specifically for idinas vocals, so thats why it seems off for anyone else but her to sing it. id kike to hear lea sing making good instead.

  • Lea has amazing vocals unquestionably but I think her range is to high for Elphaba. I would love to hear her sing Popular.

  • FUCK GLEE

    BYE NOW

  • ew. not the same. This is like, the one true song that really no one can do as well as Idina.

  • 2:40

    LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE IDINA!

  • Well i think she did great! She's a lot better than the Elphaba I saw last week. I didn't know someone's voice could be so nasally!

  • I think she did great! <3 Love this girl! <3 she could play her in the Wicked movie. I would love to see some of you who write negative comments go on stage and sing :)

  • I think she did great! <3 Love this girl! <3 she could play her in the Wicked movie.

  • yuck :/ I have to go listen to Idina now cause that kinda hurt my ears

  • cool

  • Who is the girl Lea Michele is with on 1:13? I wanna say Hilary Duff? Is it Hilary

    ?

  • @misscostanzoooo Yup! That's Hilary Duff. =)

  • Comment removed

  • She has serious problems with pitch.

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung.

  • @1:11

crazy how much she looks like her mom!

  • @lilmizannoyin thats not her mom

  • @lilmizannoyin That's idina menzel. You know, the woman who originated the song our dear lea michelle is singing.

  • @lilmizannoyin She does look like Idina, the only difference is that Idina can sing much better than this.

  • Who are the couple at the end? Are they her parents?

  • @ 1:30 she looks stunning, her legs look amazing

  • lol 0:37 is funny and at 1:3o she looks stunning. Her legs are amazing

  • Comment removed

  • hmmm, sorry Rachel leave this song to mom, lol.

  • @Platinum400- i have to agree with you. the ending is something to be desired.

  • She can't be elphie!!! She has to be Glinda it is her personality!

  • 2:02 hahaha poor guy. I wanna Rachel Berry slushee someone!

  • aww, I loved the very last picture! lea & jonathon, too precious. I'm guessing that was their last performance.

  • not hatin on lea michelle shes my homie!!! but she wuld totally fit galinda better than an elphaba!!! her voice may be just strong enough to be galinda but definintly not a elphaba!!! :D good job though!!!! :)

  • I don't think Lea's got the top range for a Glinda, but I also don't think she's got the right voice to be an Elphaba...

I'm a fan of Lea, and of Glee, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to knock her! But I think she'd make a much better Nessa, especially if they do make a film of Wicked :)

  • @unshallowifyable Can totally see her as Nessa!!

  • Ugh. She ruined it. :(

  • Not Idina...BUT! Amazing nonetheless...Although, I could really see her more as a Glinda, not an Elphaba...Still...pretty beast(:

  • She sounds just like Idina in certain parts, I think she's make a good elphaba

  • I hate that Glee fans (I am one, don't get me wrong) have no idea she grew up on Broadway. I like this version, I think she'd be a good Nessa in my opinion.

  • @olivianicolexo i agree with u too im a glee fan also and i knew about her long before she became a tv sensation but i feel that alot of glee fans just think she looks like idina so obviously for them she has to play the part of elphaba which makes no sense cuz she really dsnt have the voice to suit elphie but shed be a great nessa

  • @olivianicolexo agreed. I loved her in Spring Awakening, and then she did Glee. same with Matthew Morrison. The only good thing about it is that when people diss me for loving Broadway, then talk about them, i can say that they were Broadway performers first.

  • All of you are crazy. She has a power in her voice that would definitely work for work for Elphaba and not to like knock Idina, I love her and she is very talented, but her technique was a lot more lax and at times sloppy as elphaba. Lea and her differ in technique. Like all Elphabas. Lea should definitely try for Elfie.

  • i think she would make an excellent elphaba! but she's wouldnt be close to past ones as she is too perfect and doesnt have that rawness like idina, shoshana etc....

And its far too low for her!
