  • Andy, you NEVER waste any of my time. Just not possible.

It's funny that this discussion has continued the way it has over the last week, because I keep coming back to the topic in my head. I remember a while back when so many of us were doing shoutouts for one another, directing people to go watch each other's channels. And now it seems the tide has turned a bit where we're trying to help one another cut down.

Is this a video sharing site or a support group? LOL

    ...Or both?

  • Thanks Curt.

I think we've all come to the same realisation at the same time, spooky eh? It's something that's crept up on us all.

This is a bit of a support group, in some ways. Some people seem to need to be told that's it's ok not to watch every video & not answer every comment etc.

'Real' life is important as well, but i do love to be with my YouTube family as well :)

  • When we speak... hundreds listen. That's why we feel like rock stars, and get addicted to the attention. I don't think its bad. I think we long for this. In here, we rule, Hollywood can't touch us.

  • I think you're right. I must admit it is very nice to get the attention, especially when people like what you do & say. It's a vote of confidence, in a way.

It's hardly surprising that we then get to like that attention. I must admit i hadn't thought of it that way before. Sounds like another video topic!! :)

  • I only have 66 channels I subscribe to and some of those put out only a few vids. But with the time it takes to watch and comment I have to limit my time here so I resist subs to more channels until I have more time. I answer all comments on my vids because it's the interaction that I enjoy most. It's only the new recent ratings bar that has let me know that some of my subs watch and rate but don't comment. Cheers, Lesley

  • Thanks for that Lesley. I remember discussing this with you, via comments, the other day. I was thinking about that whilst making this video.

Do you comment on every video you watch? I must admit i don't always. Maybe i should? :)

  • I comment on every video even the ones where the video maker never replies to their comments. I have actually asked a couple of times if people read the comments or should I stop and that always gets a 'yes we love your comments don't stop' message back. But it all takes time, thank goodness I touch type! L

  • My typing isn't that good i'm afraid & i tend to keep editing my comments as well, which doesn't help.

I find making videos easier than leaving comments sometimes :)

  • It's one of the bits that takes the time because I watch all the way through. Then think what I want to say, then type the comment and read through to make sure it makes sense! ;-)

  • I like your vlogs and your walks. Whatever you do, I'll be watching, because I just plain like you and am interested in what you have to say.

  • Thanks very much.

It's very nice of you to say that :)

  • I am glad you did this Andy. For the past ten days, I have been feeling a bit like YT was more like work than pleasure. I feel a responsibliity to respond to all comments made to a video of mine and to watch every video that those I sub to put out. It is a lot of work. I have to admit than when I saw your four videos, I sort of sighed thinking of your usual length,, so I delayed watching. (more to come...) - roc

  • But, even though I sometimes delay watching you, I almost always enjoy what I watch - or you make me think. And, I like that.

The halloween stuff got to me as well. There was so much of it (we don't have that passion so much in Canada!) and, as you said, it isn't my thing. But I watched it. "Cause they are my peeps and that is my responsibility. The result? ...

  • 3) The result? - Well, I burned out. Making a video seems like a chore right now. I know I will get back into it, but OMG - I just need a break - BUT YOU CAN'T TAKE A BREAK BECAUSE THE WAITING VIDEOS START TO PILE UP AND THERE IS PRESSURE! So, I unsubbed (spelling??) some people like Nalts and the drama queen, Updownmostly. (I mean really - get a grip). Okay - I ranted enough. Kudos to you and Gary. - roc

  • I think we have to realise sometimes that this is 'our' life, not our subscribers life.

You have to do what you want to do, regardless of what others may think. There should be no obligation to do anything.

I try & reply to comments, as you know, but i don't comment on every video i watch, i only do it if i've got something to say.

Reviewing your subscriptions is always a good idea, i do it all the time.

    Thanks for the rant :)

  • There is no proof that there is life outside YouTube.

  • I had a horrible feeling that might be the case!! :)

  • We can always hope:)

  • Great response, Andy! It was nice to have some validation of my own 'prioritization' and also leave to view your scenic walk at one's leisure. How are you on Bonfire Night vids (tho' Hastings' own celebration has led the way)?

  • Thanks. No need for validation though, you do what you want & don't feel guilty about it :)

I like Bonfire Night because of the history, which i find fascinating. That whole period of British history is very interesting.

I've been amazed at how many views my Hastings Bonfire celebrations videos have got. I just put them up as a personal record really, but they've proved quite popular.

It goes to show, you never can tell :)

  • I actually made a video much like this one but I have a tendency to put my foot in my mouth so I decided I'd better not upload it. You stated your case much better than I did. Accepting my "Friends Invitation" keeps me from having to approve their comments. I only invite special people. I'm really only leaving this comment to add to your burden of responding to it :-)

  • I know what you mean, it's not an easy topic to deal with. It could be very easy to upset some people when talking about this. It took me 3 attempts to get the right balance!! :)

  • Andy great thought on the balancing act. I really enjoyed Gary's videos and this was a nice follow-up. I'm afraid that I missed your latest scenic walk videos but I'll head over there and check them out now. -Jim

  • In some ways that proves my point Jim.

I've put up 4 videos in 2 days, so it's no surprise that you missed some!! :)

  • as you know Andy I was right behind you and watched as they uploaded and the fellow members of the Vloggerhood ramblers got a few pints and a chestnut as they completed walk. LOL the 3 parts is good cause you can watch 1 then like tv wait a few hours to watch next and so on.

  • Great response will watch and make a proper comment, or read comment on Gary's vid, just got out of a 2 hour session with Twish1999 and co on Stickam, now I have a new addiction. You tube curbed my ebay spending/selling then my tv watching and now Stickam taking over You Tube, LOL, thank god for work in the evenings.

  • As i said, i've managed to avoid Stickam so far. I have an account there, but i've never actually used it.

It sounds great, but i keep hearing stories of people spending hours & hours on there :)

  • Yes I just spent 5 hours there last night and never watched a vid till now, Its all Twish1999s fault she arranged a meet up at 12 MIDNIGHT, but what fun, and I found your account and put in friend request in Stickam LOL.

  • I dont miss TV although I used to know what's going on in the world lol!!!! I was a news fanatic, but i have a link to world breaking news, I get it before the news does lol it's reuters. I miss Nip/Tuck I am very addicted to that show, so I bought the DVD's sit in bed and watch it all nice and cozy.

  • have you seen my dvds theres several tv series and nowadays all tv is online either free or for a fee and on DVD soon after original broadcast in Uk and US. I am working my way through Dallas on dvd(series5/14) 8 released so far despite the fact I saw it loads of times on tv, but older now. LOL

  • thats cool, i havent looked into that, I should lol thanks bedoboy!

  • I still try & make a point of watching the news, especially during the week. I also try & keep up with what's going on in the world, but that's because it interests me.

My 'home page' is the BBC News page.

I'm still working my way through Northern Exposure on DVD, up to Series 5 now :)

  • I found Northern Exposure on Channel 6 in Ireland, it was on some channel was on my NTL digital program list, another addiction Sport, how could you tell. LOL

  • Lucky DVD! :-0~~

  • Hey Andy, Lets see, i'm sitting here going... I have no balance.. I try... always behind.... rarely ahead lol accepting my faults not being able to watch all the vids. Giving up on my bulltin board and not caring because its just out of control lol Can't even find the function anymore, its missing. Prioritising is the key. And each of us have different priorities. I feel pretty good, but often feel bad working full time, I can't watch them all but I try lol

  • We all have to prioritise in life, full stop. But YT has become a big part of our lives, so it's no surprise that we have to prioritise here as well.

It's far better to prioritise, than to sit around trying to get everything done, when it's just impossible. Realising that is the first step. Oh dear, i make it sound like an addiction!! :)

  • It's bad to work full-time, Pip!

  • yeah i need to be a stay at home something like you! lol!

  • 4 videos by andymooseman in 2 days!? That's as ironic as me vlogging about vlogs taking up a lot of my time! LOL Hey, i prioritize my vids as well, and there are about 4 or 5 ppl who i will drop everything and watch their stuff, yours included. I like the idea of not flooding the market either..And I notice the more i put up, the less views they get too. But the real question is, how much does that matter vs. just having them out there? Great vlog andy, great response! Thanks!!

  • Part 1.

I know, the irony doesn't escape me!! But i felt i had to respond, yet again.

It's a question i've been wrestling with for a while now & even since making this video as well. It's also a very delicate topic, which can be taken completely the wrong way if it's not dealt with very carefully.

  • Part 2.

    On your other question...

This is another tough part of the balancing act. To post, or not to post, that is the question!!

If i feel something needs to be said, i'll probably post the video anyway. But, if it's something that can wait, i'll most likely leave it for a couple of days.

Having said that, i can see myself completely disregarding everything i've just written !!

Clear as mud, as they say :)

  • I really felt like it was a delicate thing to talk about. I didn't want to come across as ungrateful. I struggled with posting it but decided my subs have always been understanding. And with that said, I can also see myself disregarding everythig I said about posting less if I find it necessary to talk about a topic! LOL

  • I know what you mean, i had to do 3 takes before i got the right balance.

But, i guess it just shows the quality of our respective subscribers that there have been no adverse comments.

In fact, most people seem to completely understand what we've said & are doing the same type of things themselves :)

  • Yeah..i think it's become something we're all dealing with. Think about it...as we all get more and more "popularity" on here, we'll all have more videos to watch and comments to reply to. So it's actually pretty universal concept. I almost touched on the idea that now i "get" why the "famous" YouTubers don't reply to our comments or video replies. It puts them into a new light to me. And also, we still need time to develop our own content just as they do.

  • Exactly. I meant to mention those YT 'stars' as well. I'm beginning to get a real appreciation of what it must be like for them, not easy at all.

I certainly won't be criticising any of them for not answering comments etc.

If only i didn't have to work for a living :)

  • Exactly!

Work cramps my style but yet, it's the one thing that allows me to afford a style! :)

  • LOL Very well put :)

  • mauahahahahhhhaaa! - Just kidding :-)

  • Damn, that's another 5 minutes of my life gone!! Only kidding, he he :)

  • ...and this

  • Hello again :)

  • OK Andy - respond to this

  • Hello :)

  • I don't watch any TV in the evenings now i am on YouTube, and i don't miss it.

    xxx hugs xxx

  • I still watch some TV, although i'm very picky about what i do watch.

I've never really been a big TV watcher anyway. I'm not one for just turning on the TV & watching whatever's on :)

  • You only watch our vids if you like them?!?!?! Why how stuck up an snooty of you... My word, what would tuberland be like if everyone only watched videos they liked?!?!?!?

    umphfffff

    Pappy snorted it....

    he he

  • LOL :)

  • you know I've talked about this before... so I'll just make you reply to my comment..in 3,2,1..NOW! :op

  • I hope i wasn't too late with my reply!! :)

  • jajajja..not at ALL

    good boy!

  • Anything to please my loyal subscribers :)

  • out side life? what is that?

  • I've heard rumours it's out there somewhere!! :)

  • I found Gary's video on this subject very interesting and this one too. you made some good points (too many to mention) but I agree, you do have to prioritise

p.s. my Halloween videos were great so watch them ;)

  • Maybe you should do a response to Gary as well?

Funnily enough, yours was one of the few Halloween videos that i actually watched!! :)

  • I was thinking about responding to Gary but on a recent holiday I broke my camcorder... I'm thinking about doing a text response though.

oh, and thanks for making mine the exception and watching, it's appreciated

  • I can understand the "comments building up" thing lol, if it was me I don't know if I'd have the patience let alone time; so cudos to you! It's a nice thing to comment back, now you know how celebs feel trying to get bags of fanmail hah.

  • Thanks. I'd hardly equate it to celebrity fan mail!! But as i said, if somebody takes the time to comment on one of your videos, it's only fair that you try & comment back, if you can :)

  • Im pretty much the same as you when it comes to prioritizing who's videos you watch when you have the time. Some peoples i will always watch, some it will depend if i have time, and what the video is about. Others i will go back to at weekends, and watch then when i have more time :-)

  • I get the feeling there are a lot us doing the same sort of thing :)

  • There is life outside? lol Great video.

  • So i'm told. I'm going outside to check.

I'll let you know if it's true!! :)

  • "there is life out side of youtube"... it's called myspace! I notice when people interact and when people just upload videos and leave them, it does make a difference. though I can imagine the problem of having hundreds of videos and subscrubers to take care of... Still - it's a nice problem to have!

    x

  • It is a nice problem to have & i'd hate to think that anybody thought i was complaining.

As i said, i appreciate & enjoy the interaction here on YouTube.

But, you just start to realise that it's taking up more & more of your time, hence the prioritising :)
