The worst version, by far, of this old tear-jerker is by Irving Kaufman on a dime-store, acoustic "Oriole" record. The dentist-drill drum is present and Kaufman tries his best to inject a spell of pathos into the lyrics, while sounding like a carnival barker selling tickets for viewing the bearded lady.
The version by Spike Jones is a lot of fun.
