a 2% is usually the norm on most o scale layouts

Yeah, but it all really comes down to how much space you have. If you're tight on space, you often have to bend the rules a little bit. :)

Anything under 4% is usually good.

That's what I would do. In fact, that's what I'm doing in my back room that has a concrete wall.

The corners seem a little sharp....how do ur 6 axle engines and autoracks run on it?

The curves are all O-72, so large engines and cars have had no issues.

it's called a helix and yes it would work for o scale.
